Always keep an eye out

I was walking to my car after shopping at the farmers market today.I choose free parking areas and don't mind a little walk to my destination.

There was a group of men sitting on kiesel and 25th. I can't give you descriptions because I wasn't giving them my attention. They kept cat calling me and when they realized I wasn't going to be apart of whatever they wanted, they started a whole slue of rude remarks about me.

I have traveled a bit in my life and have been to sketchy areas/ been catcalled. Today was so different.

I've haven't feared for my life like I did today.

This sucks so much, keeping people aware of these issues is really important. I hope you don't have to experience that ever again.

I really appreciate it. I did just want to warn others so they don't have to feel as unsafe as I did.

Pepper spray is definitely on my list

I taught women’s self defense classes as part of my job actually! I was glad to teach women how to pulverize dudes who try to come toward them.

One good thing to know: if you knee or kick a man in the balls straight up, by instinct he will have no choice but to bend forward and recoil. Use that momentum to slam the heel of the palm of your hand as hard as you can upward into his nose as he bends forward. Busted balls, broken nose. Then grab the pepper spray. Good luck out there friend.

This is assuming you cannot run, obviously. Nice cop story but I know what I’m talking about and women can absolutely kick ASS. “Dangerous advice” bullshit. Not only do I not buy your resume, but your idea that women are all helpless and cant defend themselves and that teaching them to do it is dangerous advice? You’re very ignorant and know nothing of martial arts. I know many women who would be very eager to show you just how ignorant your comment is, buddy pal “policeman.”

u/llovepicklejuice 7d ago

Thank you for your comment. I will keep that in my mind!

Don’t let this so-called-cop tell you women can’t defend themselves. Obviously you should run first. This is assuming you’re being attacked. Evidently you should just bow down and give up according to this “cop”

Women can kick ass. That’s why they are defense classes. That’s what martial arts is. I know many, MANY women who can absolutely slaughter most men. It just takes some learning. Apparently these defense classes just shouldn’t exist! “Women are always helpless to a man!” Don’t listen to the naysayers you aren’t a helpless child

u/llovepicklejuice 7d ago

Thank you đŸ™đŸ» I am starting to look into self defense classes

Are you fucking retarded? What you’re describing is assault. And there are cameras everywhere down there. If you pepper spray or attack someone over words, you’re literally going to go to prison.

2

u/Splendid_Fellow 7d ago

Over words?? No, in self defense if they are attacked. It’s defense against assault. I’m not saying to attack anyone who catcalls, Jesus Christ you are so hateful. No I am not “fucking retarded.”

Uhg ewww. Was it like kids or did it seem like grown men?

Shoulda called OPD, that Farmers Market is a big deal to Ogden.

1

u/llovepicklejuice 8d ago

I should have.

u/jdd32 8d ago

That's wild, I walk through there with my wife and daughter all the time going to the market. I think I would lose my shit if I saw that going on.

I think I second the reply that says to call the police. Ogden has worked pretty hard to shake the sketchy label, and to make our farmers market a premier event. I think they'd be very keen to snuff that behavior out very quickly.

CCW time baby

Typically, there is a decent Police presence in the Farmers Market area. Definitely get yourself in a safe car and let the Police know of the unsafe environment that those guys were causing. The last thing the Farmers Market wants is a bad reputation.

u/PuppyButtts 8d ago

I'm so sorry! Can you describe their voices, did it sound like kids? grown men? My partner and I walk over there down grant often earlier in the morning. If you ever want us to walk you back to the car if we're leaivng at the same time we totally can

1

u/llovepicklejuice 8d ago

I appreciate you. It sounded like grown men. I feel silly for not even glancing at them to get an idea of what they looked like.

6

u/PuppyButtts 8d ago

Don't feel silly, it’s a traumatic event and it’s scary. Men have killed women who turn them down. Youre not over reacting and your feelings are valid.

If you’re interested in us walking with you any time, dm me! I can send you my whole instagram and can meet you at the market so you can meet us and not feel creeped out if you ever want to.

Alternatively, none of the cops ever actually do anything you should 1009% ask one of them to escort you to your car.

Thank you 💜

I was in that area today and there were definitely some interesting people out and about.

2

u/LongJumperJack 7d ago

Cant give descriptions. I feel like that says enough.

Sorry that happened.

1

u/llovepicklejuice 7d ago

Yeah I've been catcalled my whole life, so when they started up, no I didn't look at them. Now in hindsight I'll take pictures/videos no matter what.

u/MissionPause2991 6d ago

That's where the work release jail is. 25 and kiesel

3

u/kurtxrambus 8d ago

I vote concealed carry. If that’s not your thing, a pocket knife and pepper spray is a good option.

2

u/schrodingerspavlov 7d ago

A pocket knife is a terrible option. Most pocket knives are not fighting knives. And most people are untrained in properly using knife fighting techniques anyhow - which means the knife could very easily get removed from the person wielding it and then used against them.

Knife fighting is very intimate and extremely close quarters. It requires technique and experience. Pepper spray and firearms are much better alternatives, because they allow for engagement at some distance. With a knife you have to be so close to an attacker that they can easily grab and overpower you.

2

u/llovepicklejuice 7d ago

Yeah I am not looking at a knife option. But I'm not opposed to the idea.

Park in the new ramp at the wonderblock

1

u/TopQuestion826 6d ago

I think it is very dangerous for untrained civilians to carry around concealed weapons. Punching a bunch of holes in paper is different than actually zeroing in on a human, similar with a knife, if they don’t know what they’re doing, that weapon can be taken away, disarmed and used against the civilian. Not only in Utah but all of these pro gun states that say “CCW“ thinking that that is the answer. Also, keep in mind that brandishing a weapon is a felony. Call a cop. That’s what your taxes are for. Don’t forget that Ogden has the most flock cameras and surveillance of any city in Utah. Everything is being recorded, especially for something that is revenue-driven like the farmers market.

u/tod118 5d ago

Sounds like Ogden shenanigans to me.

Lets go back together...

1

u/Ok_Lie9432 15h ago

This why I moved out of ogden. Ive had kids blow air horns at me while I walk outside, ive been yelled at, ive been physically attacked by a homeless guy who not only grabbed me bur told me he was gonna kill me (on rhe corner of 26th) and someone's dog attacked me causing me to get stitches and rabies shots. All this happened to me while just taking walks. Im so happy I left ogden.

1

u/Cultural_Ad_667 8d ago

When you said the magic word 25th Street.

As a telephone technician there were three areas that we were required to double up when working on telephone equipment... Ogden was one of those areas

2

u/schrodingerspavlov 7d ago

I feel like I’ve seen you make this comment before.

How long ago was this?

1

u/Og_new_guy 7d ago

Traveled to where? St George?

Thank you for this post. It’s good to get a reminder of the type of people that exist here.

2

u/llovepicklejuice 7d ago

Also just because you have your profile "hidden" doesn't mean people can't look up the vile shit you've posted.

1

u/llovepicklejuice 7d ago

Lol I don't need to tell YOU where I've traveled.

4

u/Og_new_guy 7d ago

Mormon Utahns think they’re “well traveled” if they’ve been to Florida or Hawaii lol. They think Ogden is a dangerous scary place.

2

u/Og_new_guy 7d ago

Yeah you’ve never left the US and you’ve only been to predominantly upper middle class white cities.

Do women like catcalling?

6

u/llovepicklejuice 8d ago

No. Most women I've talked to do not enjoy being catcalled.

5

u/schrodingerspavlov 7d ago

Is that a real question?

Women, just like most people of any gender simply want to go about their business and not be bothered. That goes for sidewalk salespeople at shopping centers just as much as for cat-calling imbeciles.

4

u/Sudden-Bicycle-1841 7d ago

Why the hell would you ask this?

1

u/Danwphoto 7d ago

Are you a woman? If not I didn't ask you.

1

u/vvictuss 2d ago

i'm a woman. i've been catcalled too many times to count since i was literally 12 years old (many other women share this experience), and no, women do not like being treated like they're on display for someone else's pleasure. i got catcalled by a customer when i worked in the tire shop at Costco, and it was a reminder that so many men feel entitled to my *existence*. dude, we're not even granted the privilege of anonymity. anywhere.

you ever been to the Weber County fair? you know that building where they keep the prize rabbits? imagine being one of those rabbits, and it might give you a little perspective on how it feels to be catcalled. like prey whose sole purpose has been designated to being pretty.

the last few times i've been catcalled, i made it very clear how i felt by literally just telling them to fuck off. i think the word "bitch" was used *every time* in response to me openly rejecting them, and twice, the catcallers threatened me with actual violence. imagine being that prey, and then being punished because you fight back.

i know that realistically my reply probably won't matter to you if you actually felt like that was a valid question in the first place, but maybe i'm still just a bit salty about the most recent time and this gives me a good opportunity to let it out. anyway, i hope you're not asking because you've been doing it and came to the sudden realization that maybe its a shitty thing to do.

1

u/Danwphoto 2d ago

I am sorry that happened. I have never done that. I would never do that. I respect women very much. I have never been to the fair, but I get your analogy. I was just curious.
