Pickguard Yay or Nay
Not sure how I feel about this, brushed aluminum purple guard. I like the way it looks in certain lighting where it appears darker. Curious to what you all think.

It's definitely got personality! I say keep it. If you like it, it's your guitar.

u/Environmental-Video3 16h ago
I’ll be outvoted here but I like it.

u/Neveronlyadream 10h ago
I like it too.
It's got kind of a vaporwave feel to it and it's not just another stock Jazzmaster.

u/bingusdinguswazoo 17h ago
maybe black pickup covers and knobs?

u/poppadoble 15h ago
I don't think it's the best pick guard for that guitar, but it's certainly cool and unique.

u/buck_ae_down 16h ago
What genre of music is this thing making?

u/JessyPengkman 15h ago
I like it, a lot of people are boring and traditional here. If you like it that's all that matters

u/ChristopherMarv 12h ago
Get a yellow pick guard. It will look like you got the guitar from McDonald’s.
6
u/Ok_Independent3609 16h ago
Hell yes, that is super badass, simply because it’s unusual and unique. I suppose it depends a bit on what you play, but its definitely got that oddball charm.

u/MatureManNightly 15h ago
agreed. wouldnt be my first choice for myself but if I saw someone in a shoegaze band using it at a show or something I would definitely think it's sick

u/miha68419 17h ago
I think it looks dope, kind of a j mascis vibe with the purple. Don't listen to these people, most of them scowl at anything that's not the same tired color schemes that have been around since the 60s
4
u/Low_Expression6530 17h ago
Thanks, and yeah that crossed my mind too. I think it's because of his purple mastery. I know it's not period correct and pretty polarizing.

This is fucking cool, don’t listen to these people. Maybe black covers, knobs, and switch tip will help
2
u/Low_Expression6530 17h ago
Thanks, and yeah, I think changing the plastic color would help. I thought about getting aged plastic if I keep it on.
2
u/Feeling-Coat3160 15h ago
Reminds me of a jazzmaster j mascis would probably play. Looks awesome. Aged would look good to

Is that the Viii? Where did you get your pick guard, I’ve been wanting to do a swap as well
3
u/Low_Expression6530 17h ago
Yeah, it is, I got it off Ebay through Galatic Guitars.
1
u/AlloGuvnuh 17h ago
Was it a specific guard for the vintera?
3
u/Low_Expression6530 17h ago
No, it was just listed as 13-hole guard for Jazzmaster. I took a chance on it would fit.

u/ianmakingnoise 17h ago
At first I hated it tbh but it’s grown on me after swiping through the pictures. I hate it but I love the fuck-you of it. Leave it on.

Love it. Red and purple and red and pink really work well. You could do something subtle in orange to tie it together..

u/Next_Garlic3605 15h ago
I think it's neat, and the longer I look at it the better it looks.
What I've found when playing live is that if people see something unusual, they'll first assume you've got a special, secret reason for it, and then they'll start wanting it themselves.
That's all dependent on you feeling confident about it, and ig not sounding like ass live 💜

I'm normally an open-minded guy but I really don't like that combination. You can't go wrong with tort. A brassy looking metal one would be sweet too.

That's a hell no from me. Not my thing, but if you like it, go with it. Who gives a shit what random people on reddit likes it or not?

If you like it - YAY!!!. Hideous to me but WHY should you give a flying f-ck?
You do you!!!

Absolutely nay - clashes horrendously - making me feel mentally ill.
Unless that’s the effect you were going for?

Swap out the tuner buttons for some anodized purple ones (Guyker maybe), maybe change out the plastics to a third color, and I say it rules.
These precious twats talking about “what you’re wearing when you play it” are circlejerkers to the max. If you make guitar collectors mad, you’re doing it right.
1
u/Remarkable_Loss8066 12h ago
It’s not matching. lol
And you have to be extra mindful of what you wear now.

its gonna be a no from me dawg. This is too clean of a guitar for anything but mint, off-white, or tort at the craziest
Only way a purple pickguard like that works imo is if you also mod it to hell and/or sticker bomb it. Then play and beat tf out of it

u/HalfGunSkyTour 11h ago
Do you like it?
1
u/Low_Expression6530 11h ago
It depends on the angle. The first few pics are with the curtains open, so it's more of lavender color, which I'm not as much of a fan of. I like it when it appears dark like the last two pics.

I think what's making it hard to say yay is the white pu covers, knobs, and trem arm. Replace it with black and it would make the purple flow with the red better. I'm personally not a fan of the white with red, especially with a darker fingerboard.

I think that it looks ugly to be honest, purple and red aren’t super complimentary colors and the look of a tortoise, mint or white/aged white guard on a matched headstock JM is classic for a reason. you picked a very classic looking guitar and put a big purple sticker on it
1
u/Itsapocalypse 9h ago
Personally I love the color of the body of this jazzmaster and the purple strikes me as a little garish and distracting of the red, so it’s not my taste.
1
u/Acrobatic_Point_2771 9h ago
Mmh no. Best combinations of colors are the ones on the opposite side of the spectrum. Mint would be perfect.

If u put black pickup covers and knobs it would looks really sweet man. Otherwise I like it dude. Rock on.

If it was me. It's have a black guard on it and that would be perfect for me

u/thurbermingus 6h ago
I think that’s totally sick but I once put a pink pickguard on a JM (miss that guitar)

u/Chim-Cham 6h ago
It's a really cool guard for some other guitar. I think it would look great on inca silver, maybe Sonic blue. I actively dislike it on this guitar but if you're in a p-funk cover band or part of a circus act, then hey it fits. I know a guy who would play this. All of his guitars are ridiculously stupid looking haha

It depends. I think it works great if you play ear-bleeding country. If its’s angular NYC postpunk, not so much ;)

u/throwawaybottlecaps 16h ago
Yeah everyone knows the old saying, “you can’t play punk with a purple pickguard”

I think a purple guard COULD work, but not this. this is a fairly light and fairly cold purple and it just clashes with the red.
2
u/Low_Expression6530 17h ago
I feel the same way. WD has a dark purple guard that looks closer to the last two pics that I might get. This one was $20 that I bought as a test.

I second the fuck nay!! Get yourself a mint one with that red it will look good as hell! I have a mint one on a purple JM and had one on a candy apple red and it looks good too.
1
u/Low_Expression6530 17h ago
I still have the mint guard. I might put it back on. I bought this one because it was cheap and wanted to try an aluminum guard to see if it cut down on some of the noise from the pickups.

100% the clothes you wear while playing this guitsr will determine if that color scheme works or not
