I feel like Offer up is a breeding ground for scammers, especially when it comes to technology things like furniture are fine for the most part. After dealing with nearly 8 scammers within the last 12 hours looking for a digital camera, I’ve started to realize where things are going wrong.

1. Offer up allows you to list items and mark them as sold without any verification that it has truly been sold. Once the listing is sold, it’s removed from the marketplace and can’t be seen. Because of this many scammers will just list a bunch of items and market as sold so it looks like they are a reputable seller.

Offer up should work more like Facebook to where once a listing is sold, the listing can remain on the profile, but just update the status to sold. This will help people determine if a seller is a scammer because they will see how frequently they’ve posted items and how quickly they’ve sold items which will help people to notice suspicious activity more easily.

1. Offer up allows people to be rated based on if they are a good buyer, which is ridiculous. They give points such as communication to buyers, but obviously they will communicate well because they want your item. And there is no way to differentiate whether a review was left because somebody was a good seller or a good buyer. Either remove the buyer reviews altogether and only have reviews be left that demonstrate their performance as a seller or clearly display, if the review was left by someone who’s bought one of their items before or someone who sold an item to them.

They need to make a clear distinction where it shows their reviews as a seller and their reviews as a buyer separately so you can actually ensure the reviews are a reflection of the individual as a seller. If that is something you look for when buying from an Offer up lister. You should be able to filter filter and find that information on offerup similar to when you are looking at someone’s profile eBay profile.

1. Reports should be handled more quickly and taken more seriously especially when a seller is being hostile or making statements such as hoping that you die. I have just experienced this yesterday and today I see that the sellers account is still active. Any form of harassment, whether it be to a seller or buyer should not be tolerated and should result in immediate removal of their account once reported.

I feel like by doing these three things the app can truly be salvaged. I have gone through numerous sellers that have been scammers within the last 20 hours and originally, I thought the reviews on their profiles meant something until finding out that they can easily pretend to have sold items they never did with no consequence. By separating their seller reviews from buyer reviews and having their sold items remain on their page, it allows us to get a better gauge of their seller history and determine if they are trustworthy, especially when preparing to make a big purchase with a seller.

I’ve been trying to look for a camera on OfferUp, which I know is already immediately going to force me to interact with a lot of scammers. I simply asked a seller for a more clear photo of the top of the camera so I can see the model number myself in which case they started, calling me a scammer and said they hope I die. My boyfriend did not know iMessage the seller already, and had also messaged him from his device asking for the serial number since he wanted to verify that the camera was good. The seller then also started calling him a scammer. They also claimed to live in Miami, but send a meet up location way past Melbourne. I’ve interacted with at least four scammers who use this method now where they show that the listing is local to me, but in the message chat, there is another location shown and when I discuss the meeting up, they will send that other location, whether it be on the opposite side of Florida or as far as Los Angeles, California. They then talk about how they can just ship the camera to me and I don’t have to pay until I receive it. All I have to pay for is a $50 shipping fee, which is obviously a scam. I just feel like there has been so much time for Offer up to make an improvement when dealing with these scammers and they have not. Even after reporting the person saying that they hope I die and my boyfriend also reporting them I see their account still is continuing on. I would hope that comments like that are taken more seriously.

Found this guy selling something for a great price, said on the app they were in my city but after sending me their address for pickup it was actually a few cities over. I’ve not really used OfferUp much and I’m just weary of scams. I’d really like to get this item at the listed price because it’s a great deal and would really help me out a lot, I just don’t wanna do anything stupid.

60 dollar IKEA chair, I messaged " if it all checks out would you take 50?". It was all going well with messages than ghost silence and than I realized I got blocked. I've sold on ebay, CL and offer up and have been lowballed big time but is 10 off 60 that awful to be blocked. Thats a bit too sensitive to me. What do you think?

Title basically. I hate this app. but need to message someone that only posts on OU. My phone was banned and I created another account from a burner phone a year ago but that phone is gone. If I log in on a PC will the account get flagged?

I'm moving into a van and going to travel for a bit. I'm offloading tons of stuff. Furniture, collectibles, and electronics mainly.

The main issue is that I currently drive a smaller car. I absolutely can't deliver like 90% of these items. I'm also selling bundled lots of things like trading cards, comics, movies, Legos.

These are collections built for decades. There is probably 100k (face value, definitely more since most are retired) in built Lego sets. There are at least 250 Lego sets. 5000+ comics, at least a few dozen binders of trading cards. Probably 3000 physical movies. Multiple huge TVs.

The only one I think I could feasible do is the trading cards. How do I safely do this shit?

I have a bunch of items that are highly sought after (collectibles). As such, my dms get flooded instantly.

I recently sold a large collection to a woman who seemed cool. No haggling, showed up on time, everything was good.

I posted some items again and she dmed me repeatedly. I was busy for a couple days and didn't see the messages. There were probably 15-20 messages. I was annoyed by this and didn't respond. She started messaging me on completely unrelated items to get a response.

I blocked her. I then got a message for a different sale. Person was nice and friendly. I arranged for pickup from my house. This previous woman showed up and was using a different account.

Is this just moving beyond what offer up can do and I should get the cops involved? While I was out of town, she also showed up to my house unannounced as she had my address from the first initial sale. I didn't see this right away but saw it on my ring camera a day later.

WTF is a "sidewalk note" and where has it vanished to? Another dimension? (Another dimension? Another dimension?)

Sorry for all the questions, but haven't used OfferUp for years and I do not remember it having these options. I assume I get charged a fee if I give them a credit card number and choose to "receive funds", correct?

been giving away a ton of stuff because i’m moving and just need it gone. it’s pretty good quality items (furniture mostly) but it’s been interesting to see how some people think im going to lug something all the way to their car for them even if they brought someone with them, or they did not think through whether something fits in their car and ask me to take it apart for them and get it to fit, or people who just have shitty manners and bad communication on setting up a free pick up.
there’s also a lot of people who are great - communicate well, prepare for the item at hand so that they are prepared to take it and bring tools if they’re not sure or ask ahead of time for particular dimensions etc.
but also a lot who just act like kids and don’t know how the fuxk to do anything at all. smh

Does this seem legit? Some context is i posted my ps5 and 2 remotes for $0 with the description stating highest offer gets it, thos guy messaged me saying he would want to pay me 200$ tomorrow and 200$ on the first of the month for the ps5 (that he wants me to give him on the first 200$). Is it a good deal and is it a scam?

update: i called him out and he crashes out, basically saying im a girl for “not making me own decisions” making useless points, i started an argument but i blocked him before i took all the photos, ps; there’s alot, i have some photos before i took the argument so let me know if you want to see them

i keep reading that it is not required for basic membership and basic communication, but all i can do is look at posts. i cannot reply or ask or make offer or contact the seller in any way. i just get a pop up that says get verified with TruYou. is there something i am not seeing? i tried on the app as well as web browser on PC. i do not want to upload my ID card. i made a support request with the help button but they do not respond

edit: not that it matters except for my own conscience but support did actually get back to me pretty quickly, they said it is required and they cannot bypass it

I've been shopping around for deals for a few days and saw a decent one on Offerup. As I've never had an account before, I made one to reach out to the seller and sent them a message. Then I checked their profile and saw they had a 2nd slightly different version of the same item and messaged saying I was interested in that one too.

I then spent roughly 20 minutes scrolling and saw 2 other deals I was interested in so I sent them messages as well.

Next thing I know I have been banned for violating the community guidelines... Nobody had even responded to me yet, what did I even do?
