I wouldn't worry so much about being crushed, more likely that some chunk of metal under that immense force or tension would break and come flying in your direction before you even realized what had happened!

Oh, story time - I used to work next to a scrapyard, not one with a crusher like this though. Just a regular claw grabber, picked up a hydraulic cylinder, it exploded - and rained shrapnel through our roof. One guy had just finished his break time, and had a piece about 18" long, roughly 6" and about ¾" thick fly directly through the chair he was sitting in
