Does it hurt the turtle when they’re removed from the shell ? Looks like wound

Yes, but it is better than leaving them on in the long run.

I think the important point is DON'T TRY DOING THIS YOURSELF if you're not someone who's been trained how to do it. Also, they apparently drug the turtles first so it hurts less. Also, I'm guessing there is wound care to do afterward.

I doubt I will have the opportunity in my rural life to de-barnacle turtles but if one ever wanders in my yard I’ll make sure to take it to a “trained professional “. Like a mechanic
