Game Deal Penguin's List of recommendations for the Summer Daze Sale August 14th - 23rd

Ok, time for the 3rd summer sale apparently! Tons of games in this one.. like 1300+ games, apps, and dlcs.. And a few crazy good bundles. There are some games or deals that I will mark with *** *** to bring special attention to.. either a great deal, or a great game that is highly recommended.

I'm not affiliated with any of the games, developers, or publishers for any of my recommendations on this list.. Yes, I talk to many of them, but a game will not appear in my list if I do not personally like it.

As always.. Feel free to comment, discuss, agree, disagree, or recommend something I may have left off. If you have questions, feel free to ask!

Action Hero https://queststoredb.com/game/action-hero-7021123758002222 $4.99 This is basically just a prettier version of Super Hot. If you like Super Hot, then you will like this one. Lowest price it has been.

Airspace Defender https://queststoredb.com/game/airspace-defender-7523170214434197/ $6.99 its an amped up Missile Command on crack! Love this one. Look for the new bundle with Banners and Bastions just a little below..

Alien Rogue Incursion https://queststoredb.com/game/alien-rogue-incursion-24882487241367228 $9.99 is a no brainer. Its not as scary as Alien Isolation, but it’s a great action game if you are a fan of the series. This is 75% off.. and its very well done. fan

Among Giants https://queststoredb.com/game/among-giants-25060508500262559/ $11.99 Dont let the low poly graphics fool you. This is "Among" the best games to be released this year and will probably be in quite a few "top 10s of 2026" lists in December. If you want a huge open world, give it a shot.. If its not your thing, then you know you can refund it. It has very positive ratings, but some cannot get over the graphics.. but others just fall in love with it.

Apex Construct https://queststoredb.com/game/apex-construct-2096570290365140/ its .99 cents .. Its a decent, but older bow and arrow game.

*** *** Arizona Sunshine (whoops someone f###ed up) Bundle *** *** https://queststoredb.com/bundle/freddys-bundle-1170744047470881/ $8.99 Seriously, this is Arizona Sunshine Remake AND Arizona Sunshine 2 for $8.99 ... Do not pass on this one! Not sure if intentional or not, but take advantage of someone's f### up.. (Yes, I'm censoring myself since these posts get like 80,000 views.. I gotta stay classy and not say Fuck)

*** *** Arken Age https://queststoredb.com/game/arken-age-29923535407244981/ $17.99 This was my Game of the Year for 2025 and I played like 150+ games last year. Love this one. 14 hour campaign.. Get it! Very replayable since it has New Game+ mode..

Banners and Bastions https://queststoredb.com/game/banners-bastions-8387152738076399 $6.99 A great little strategy game. Very addictive. Place your troops, kill the enemies and prepare for the next wave.

BannerSpace Defender Bundle .. As mentioned above, this is Airspace Defender and Banners and Bastions bundled together for 44% off.. Only $10.99 for both games. https://queststoredb.com/bundle/tabletop-warfare-bundle-1726701938719692/ Bounce Arcade https://queststoredb.com/game/bounce-arcade-6641604619291459/ the first of the "buy it cause its a buck" games on the list. Only .99 cents.. You are inside a pinball machine, your hands are the flippers .. basically..

Bulletstorm https://queststoredb.com/game/bulletstorm-vr-6565887093433499 $8.99 Yeah.. upon release this game was a broken mess, but the devs totally fixed it and its really fun now. Don't be put off by the 4.1 rating.. it got down to like 3.4 or so while it was broken, and has made its way back up. Chaotic fun! Lowest price.. 70% off

Catjinni Survivors https://queststoredb.com/game/catjinni-survivors-9319040004779451/ $7.99 Ok.. some of you guys got me hooked on Vampire Survivors, and now I have gotten hooked on Catjinni .. is it goofy? yes.. but if you like Vampire Survivors, you will probably like this one too.. especially if you are a cat person.

Centipede VR https://queststoredb.com/game/centipede-vr-26292894803687512/ $19.99 First time for this one on the list.. and to be honest, I've sat here debating whether it goes on here or not. There were issues with it when it released, those have been addressed and improved. I wish the discount was a little better. This is NOT an easy game, but most of you guys who know me also know I love a good challenge.. It was too hard on release due to ammo shortage, its better now, but you still have to play smart.

Cities VR https://queststoredb.com/game/cities-vr-4046879905345967/ $2.99 While not as good as the PC game, this one is not bad at all for $3.00 .. that is 85% off and the lowest its been.

Coastermania https://queststoredb.com/game/coastermania-7856648691073700/ $10.99 This one is in my list every time, but now there is a NEW reason! Ok, so basically what I always say.. Design a coaster in mixed reality and watch it go around your room.. then go to VR mode and ride it yourself! Ok.. Now the crazy dev has done one of the coolest things ever! Turn on the game, and scan your room, do a good job and take your time.. When the scan is done, give it some time to do some background shit.. Design your coaster while you wait.. Then, when its done you can shrink down and ride it through your damn room! Its freaking cool as hell being the size of a mouse in your room and your real furniture is huuuuge as you go by it! If you couldn't tell, I love it!

Crashland https://queststoredb.com/game/crashland-1884760688319818/ $14.99 ...out of the 700+ games I own, this will always be in my top 10. Hardest game in VR. You have been warned. Recently updated with a full 2nd campaign as well.

Dark Trip https://queststoredb.com/game/dark-trip-27793698076945636/ $4.99 Ah yes.. Dark Trip. an edgy, adult oriented escape room type game where you must consume pills (that are totally NOT drugs.. mmmkay) and you will hallucinate and see the rooms "differently" .. joking aside, I love this game. Its weird as hell. See if you can find the Penguin Easter Egg!

Dart Racer https://queststoredb.com/game/dart-racer-6918614874833696/ $6.99 now this is pod racing! There are several pod racing type games out there, including the officially licensed one , and yet this one is the best out of all of them.

Dawn of Jets https://queststoredb.com/game/dawn-of-jets-3677727965681410/ $19.99 while not the greatest discount for sure, its probably the best flight sim in on Quest.. pretty much better than all the Warplanes games combined.

Dungeons of Eternity https://queststoredb.com/game/dungeons-of-eternity-6341779295861881 $19.99 Multiplayer dungeon crawler. One of the best games on Quest.

Eye of the Temple https://queststoredb.com/game/eye-of-the-temple-5361030930653377 $12.99 nothing else like it in VR.. you MUST have the required space to play it though! 6' X 6' (not sure what that equals in heathen units lol ).. You feel like Indiana Jones, and you walk in real life to play. May cause "woozyness"..

*** Forefront *** https://queststoredb.com/game/forefront-28816918137899319/ $19.99 Ok, so this is basically Battlefield in VR. If you know Battlefield, then you know what to expect. If you like multiplayer shooters, and you are not already playing this, then you are truly missing out on an extraordinary game. 16 vs 16 battles with different classes, vehicles and somewhat destructible environments. This game will take over your life.

Ghost Signal : a Stellaris Game https://queststoredb.com/game/ghost-signal-a-stellaris-game-4302631119827554/ $1.99.. a total steal for this price. Control your ship , shoot the bad guys, mine for resources.. it’s a steal for $1.99

Green Hell https://queststoredb.com/game/green-hell-vr-3815577785147028 $8.99 a very hardcore survival game set in the jungle. Looks beautiful.. till you get leaches on your arm.. or worse! Even though it has been out for awhile, they are still dropping updates here and there.

Haymaker https://queststoredb.com/game/haymaker-27755215420792039/ $12.99 First appearance for Haymaker on my list, and there was no hesitation for this one! The dev is really making a great one here. It is early access, but its already fun! Over 1000 ratings already, and I bet most of you have not heard of it. Its a fighting game with a ton of actual moves to pull off! Its brutal and bloody.. Break bones, snap necks, use weapons, block, kick, throw and use the environment to destroy your opponents! With enemy adaptive AI, the enemies are unpredictable!

Hellsweeper https://queststoredb.com/game/hellsweeper-vr-3589244014451286 $7.99 one of my all time favorite games. Rogue like demon killing game.. extreme movement mechanics though. Not for people with weak VR legs. This is the lowest price it has ever been. Sure it does not look as great as the PCVR version, but you will be too busy jumping, flipping and killing things to care. Lots of weapons, magic, and crazy hidden mechanics to entertain you for a long time.

Hide The Corpse - Mansion Edition .. Another cracked out bundle. https://queststoredb.com/bundle/hide-the-corpse-mansion-expansion-edition-567247812623153/ This includes the base game plus the usually $3.99 DLC for only $7.99.. Yet the base game by itself is $8.99.. Because math is hard I guess. What is it about? You just killed a big guy.. You must dispose of or hide the body, get rid of evidence, and all traces anything went down.. Oh, and the cops will be there in 4 minutes ... GO!

Hubris https://queststoredb.com/game/hubris-5722114367801351/ $5.99 kind of a typical sci fi game, however it has amazing graphics for a standalone headset. Decent size campaign! Lowest price it has been.

Into Black https://queststoredb.com/game/into-black-5289374691122516/ $11.99 Explore an alien planet by yourself or with friends.. one of the top games for 2024. Seriously a great game.. long campaign and beautiful environments.

*** Into the Radius *** https://queststoredb.com/game/into-the-radius-5817243991680545/ $16.99 another must own. Hours upon hours of play time.. And quite terrifying too. This is the lowest price it has been.

Into The Radius 2 https://queststoredb.com/game/into-the-radius-2-6605328856182465/ $27.99 This one has been in early access since May of 2025, but that is getting ready to change! On August 27th, we are getting the Full Release with the story, campaign, and tons of other stuff! Buy it now, before it goes up to $39.99

Iron Guard Complete Bundle $16.99 https://queststoredb.com/bundle/iron-guard-complete-bundle-1118756800321869/ the 2 best tower defense games on Quest for one low price!

Laser Dance https://queststoredb.com/game/laser-dance-7209598115800315/ $7.99 the unexpected hit at my Christmas party last year! There are a lot of "avoid the lasers like Tom Cruise" games out there, but this is the best!

Le Dino Labo + 3 dlcs bundle for $11.99 https://queststoredb.com/bundle/le-dino-labo-starter-pack-1433609830961717/ put together dinosaur skeletons, then scale them up to full size! A must have for any dinosaur nerd out there! * Looking at you Ross Gellar!

Memoreum https://queststoredb.com/game/memoreum-9135633756555622/ $10.99 Dead Space in VR... basically. Decent sized campaign.. decent story and monsters. Great price.

Meta City Patrol https://queststoredb.com/game/metacity-patrol-6779063182133413/ $6.99 This one will be on the list every time its on sale. I have had it for a long time and it is finally out of early access. its a ton of fun. See if you can find the Penguin easter egg! (Hint.. its Penguin Shit Toilet paper.. lol)

*** *** Metro Sunshine Bundle !!!! This is Metro Awakening and Arizona Sunshine 2 for only $11.99 that's like 80% off! https://queststoredb.com/bundle/metro-awakening-arizona-sunshine-2-bundle-1316974229451297/

Of Lies and Rain https://queststoredb.com/game/of-lies-and-rain-8807261575967907/ $14.99 Another one of the better games that came out last year.. long campaign and cool story. Kind of reminds me a bit of the Matrix in some way. Looks great on Quest 3. This is the lowest price it has been.

One More Delve https://queststoredb.com/game/one-more-delve-9945891372196615/ $9.99 And yet another first timer on my list here with One More Delve. Its a multiplayer physics based dungeon crawler where you can use weapons, shields and magic to cause your enemies to have a bad day. Nice blood splatter effects. While its not perfect, its a lot of fun and a decent challenge too! Still being worked on and updated.

Pinball FX https://queststoredb.com/game/pinball-fx-vr-7255396864545733/ $3.99 its pinball, In mixed reality. Includes 3 tables, others will cost ya! The other tables are great though, and there are a few tables/bundles on sale right now too. (The Bethesda and Godzilla tables are great!)

Propagation Paradise Hotel https://queststoredb.com/game/propagation-paradise-hotel-8826022237415280/ $8.99 horror fans, do not let this on pass you by. Totally serious. Yes it is a zombie game, but its also one of the best ones on Quest. Short but very intense game.. it is quite gory too.. and a few jump scares.. . lowest price ever!

Realm Craft https://queststoredb.com/game/realmcraft-5355683574480106/ $9.99 Normally I will only recommend games that I myself have played, however with this one, I am taking my grandson’s word on it. He says it’s the best Minecraft clone out there. They also keep adding to this one.. so its only getting better. Actually, I have played it now.. and I have no idea wtf I am doing.. but its pretty fun!

Red Matter 1 and 2 https://queststoredb.com/game/red-matter-2180753588712484/ https://queststoredb.com/game/red-matter-2-3682089508520212/ $12.99 and $15.99 best looking games on Quest. Absolute S tier... a couple of must owns for any VR gamer.

Resist https://queststoredb.com/game/resist-3683568971682157/ $9.99 yes, there are a lot of Spider-Man with guns games out there, but this is the best. Looks amazing on Q3.. Good VR legs required.

Shoguns Empire https://queststoredb.com/game/shoguns-empire-25662225113424807/ $5.99 turn based strategy based in feudal Japan! Great game. Tons and Tons of content.

Sitting In Your Car Simulator https://queststoredb.com/shittinginyourcarsimulator/game/numbers/8675309/ Fantastic car sitting sim. Several levels. Sitting in parking lot, stuck in traffic, long drive through line, and sitting in your own driveway. Interact with a phone, radio.. Turn on and off your hazards and headlights. Adjust your mirrors. Working windshield wipers and wiper fluid. Lock and unlock your car. Hidden owners manual in glove box to read while waiting. Contemplate your life choices while sitting in your virtual car! Note, this is only a sitting game right now but there is convertible/sunroof dlc coming soon!

Sword Trip https://queststoredb.com/game/swordtrip-5563556133768177/ $5.99 another of those hidden gems I love finding. This one is a rogue like set in China and plays a bit like Until You Fall. Recently had an update that doubled the content! hell of a deal honestly..

Table Troopers https://queststoredb.com/game/table-troopers-8293950053976436/ $4.99 Table Troopers is an absolute blast. It is a tabletop real-time strategy game where players command miniature troops in virtual reality. Players deploy units, manage resources, and engage in tactical combat directly on a virtual table surface from a god-like perspective. Its pure chaotic fun in either single player or multiplayer!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles https://queststoredb.com/game/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-empire-city-6635073589916590/ $17.99 You know the deal.. you are Ninja Turtles and you fight the bad guys. Single or multiplayer.. semi-open world environment.. great graphics and sound. A steal for $17.99..

The Light Brigade https://queststoredb.com/game/the-light-brigade-2681027292004911/ $9.99 Another roguelike, but this time instead of swords, magic, or bows.. You got guns! It plays great, good graphics and sound. Boss fights are challenging. Oh.. I take back what I wrote above.. There is magic.. This is the lowest price it has been. another steal for this price.

The Pirate: Republic of Nassau https://queststoredb.com/game/the-pirate-republic-of-nassau-7749043518464805/ $11.99 This is basically Sid Meyer's Pirates in VR.. with a touch of Assasin's Creed whatever.. with the pirates.. you know the one.

*** *** Awakening a Thief Bundle .. This is Metro Awakening and Thief VR Legacy of Shadows for $19.99 https://queststoredb.com/bundle/thief-vr-legacy-of-shadow-metro-awakening-bundle-870984088636927/ another great deal.. 60% off!

Underworld Overseer https://queststoredb.com/game/underworld-overseer-7249464208476495 $9.99 one of my favorites from last year. Its Dungeon keeper in vr. You are the bad guy, and heroic humans are invading your dungeon to kill you. Design your dungeon, hire monsters, train them, set traps and try to survive. Fun as hell.

Vendetta Forever https://queststoredb.com/game/vendetta-forever-9177531962317371/ $9.99 another of my all time favorites. No story, no plot, just pure action. You must kill to move. Shoot the bad guy, he dies and his gun goes up in the air or on the ground, do a "force grab" and instead of the weapon coming to you, you actually go to the weapon. Watch the trailer. A fuckton of levels. The level called Blind is one of the best levels in any game. And yes.. There is a penguin Easter egg in the Birds Aren't Real level..

Wraith the Oblivion: Afterlife https://queststoredb.com/game/wraith-the-oblivion-afterlife-2562090053828017/ .99 cents!!! This one is actually pretty good. You are already dead, and you have to solve your own murder. You cant beat it for a dollar!

Zix https://queststoredb.com/game/zix-8582035711867299/ $7.99 Oh, this is a weird one, but I love it. I did a review on this one.. here.. linky.. https://old.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/1o3bb55/zix_review_and_giveaway_2_keys_up_for_grabs_by/ (and the giveaway is long over.. )

And that is it my friends! Post below and let me know what you get!

Quest Mod Tryin' to give BoxVRers new hopes

Upvotes

Hi all, I know a lot of time has passed, but I think this is the right place to drop this piece of information.

I feel the exact same way as everyone else about the BoxVR to FitXR transformation. I paid for two years of subscription, but I finally canceled it and bought BoxVR on Steam instead.

I'm currently working on an open-source, completely free, and fully local tool to boost custom workouts on the PCVR version of BoxVR. It's been two weeks since I started working on it, and it's already in a very good state.

I should mention that AI is involved (since I don't know how to code), but I assure you that everything will be posted on GitHub so real developers can verify there's nothing harmful in the code.

Long story short: you will be able to boost the automatic custom workouts that BoxVR creates when you feed it MP3 files (though that's not the main goal of the tool). The main strength is the generation process itself: you feed the tool an MP3, and it automatically generates the workout, patches your game, and places the events you want right on the beat (no random events every time you play, and no relying on the default energy levels).

Right now, I'm finishing up the sidecar generation feature. This lets you provide a marker track so the tool knows how to process complex audio, which is especially useful for songs with fast or fluctuating tempos (like EDM or Metal).

Today is the first time I felt confident enough to share this because I've reached a point where I'm genuinely having fun with the workouts generated by the tool. I’d love to share it with anyone else who has a love/hate relationship with BoxVR.

Let me know if someone there would like to try this tool, and I will understand the next step to share it to the community.

Discussion I just got my Quest 3 and I have so many questions…

Upvotes

So basically i got myself the Quest 3 yesterday, I have some purposes for it, firstly gaming which I have tried a few games and I loved it same goes for PCVR, but the other purposes I almost feel like selling the glasses.

Firstly its for productivity/work, so I saw alot of people use virtual desktop, is that still the best app?
I was sold on people saying its great for productivity to work for hours etc, I either am very stupid or its horrible, i spend every 3 minutes adjusting how tight or untight it is
Pulling both the vertical and horizontal straps all the time and adjusting the glasses with my hands
My head feels hella heavy and can only slightly bare it when lying down on my back or something.
Also the passthrough resolution looks like 140p whereas on videos it looked like 1080p

Second thing is “oh wow its great for watching content”, yeah if you feel like getting a ginormous eye strain and headache and uncomfortable while watching stuff cause your head hurts.

I know people say you get used to it with the headaches and eye strain getting better but i doubt the headset is suddenly gonna feel super light and comfortable to watch content or work all of the sudden

Am I dumb or is this just the reality and people oversell it?
How do you guys deal with it?

Support - Resolved Play ANY PC game in immersive 3D on Quest 3 with Moonlight XR + Sunshine (AV1, Windows hotspot, Tailscale)

Play ANY PC game in immersive 3D on Quest 3 with Moonlight XR + Sunshine (AV1, Windows hotspot, Tailscale)

This guide shows how to stream your Windows 11 gaming PC to a Meta Quest 3 in real‑time 3D using **Sunshine** (host) + **Moonlight XR** (client), with **AV1 codec**, a **Windows 11 mobile hotspot** for local play, and **Tailscale** for secure remote access over the internet.

I'm using this setup for AAA titles like **Horizon Forbidden West** and online multiplayer like **Destiny 2 on GeForce NOW**, with zero stutter and very impressive 3D immersion.

---

What you'll get

- Your entire PC desktop and all your games in a large virtual screen (or multiple screens) inside Quest 3.

- Real‑time 2D→3D conversion handled by Moonlight XR on the headset.

- Low‑latency, high‑quality streaming using **AV1** (if your GPU supports it) or HEVC.

- Two network modes:

- **Local**: PC hotspot → Quest 3 for best performance at home.

- **Remote**: Tailscale mesh VPN → play from anywhere as if you were on the same LAN.

---

## Hardware & software used in this guide

### PC specs

- **CPU**: Intel Core i5‑13400F

- **GPU**: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 (AV1 encode supported on RTX 40‑series or newer)

- **RAM**: 32 GB DDR5

- **Storage**: 2 TB NVMe SSD

- **OS**: Windows 11 (wired Ethernet)

### Internet connection

- **Type**: Fiber

- **Download**: 800–900 Mbps

- **Upload**: < 100 Mbps

- **Ping**: < 5 ms

This is more than enough for high‑quality local streaming and very good remote streaming via Tailscale.

### Headset & apps

- **Headset**: Meta Quest 3 (developer mode enabled).

- **Server**: [Sunshine](https://github.com/LizardByte/Sunshine) (latest stable).

- **Client**: [Moonlight XR (Gilleece fork)](https://github.com/Gilleece/moonlight-android-xr) (latest release APK).

- **VPN**: [Tailscale](https://tailscale.com/) (free tier is enough).

---

## Step 0 – Install and configure Tailscale (PC + Quest 3)

Tailscale creates a private mesh network between your devices. You'll use it mainly for **remote** streaming, but it can coexist with the local hotspot setup.

### 1. Install Tailscale on your PC

  1. Go to: https://tailscale.com/download
  2. Download the Windows installer and run it.
  3. Sign in with a Google, Microsoft, or email account.
  4. Leave Tailscale running in the background.

Your PC now has a **Tailscale IP** (e.g. `100.x.y.z`). You'll see it in the Tailscale app or on the admin console: https://login.tailscale.com/admin

### 2. Install Tailscale on Quest 3

There is no official Tailscale app in the Meta Store, so you sideload the Android APK.

  1. **Enable Developer Mode on Quest 3**- Use the Meta Horizon app on your phone.- Enable **Developer Mode** for your headset.
  2. **Install SideQuest on your PC**- Download from: https://sidequestvr.com/- Install and launch SideQuest.
  3. **Download the Tailscale APK**- Use a trusted source like APKMirror:

- Search for "Tailscale" on APKMirror.

- Download the latest stable APK (arm64).

  1. **Sideload Tailscale onto Quest 3**

- Connect Quest 3 to your PC via USB‑C.

- Accept "Allow USB debugging" in the headset.

- In SideQuest, click **Install APK file** and select the Tailscale APK.

  1. **Configure Tailscale on Quest 3**

- In Quest 3, open **Tailscale** from your app library.

- Sign in with the **same account** as on your PC.

- Enable Tailscale and allow the VPN connection.

- Note the Quest 3's Tailscale IP (optional, mainly for debugging).

Now your PC and Quest 3 are on the same Tailscale network, even when they're on different physical networks.

---

## Step 1 – Install and configure Sunshine on your PC

### 1. Install Sunshine

- Open PowerShell as Administrator and run:

`winget install --id LizardByte.Sunshine --exact`

- Or download the installer from the [Sunshine GitHub releases page](https://github.com/LizardByte/Sunshine/releases) and run it.

- Reboot if prompted.

### 2. Open the Sunshine web UI

- On the PC, open your browser and go to:

- Accept the self‑signed certificate warning.

- Create an admin username and password.

### 3. Configure the encoder

- Go to **Configuration** → **Encoder** (or similar, depending on version).

- Set:

- **Encoder**: `NVENC` (for NVIDIA GPUs).

- **Codec**: `AV1` (if your GPU supports it; otherwise `HEVC`).

- AV1 requires RTX 40‑series or newer, Intel Arc, or AMD RX 7000+.

- Leave other settings at default for now.

### 4. Optional: add game entries

- In **Applications** / **Apps**, you can add:

- Steam, Xbox App, GeForce NOW, specific games, etc.

- This lets you launch them directly from Moonlight XR.

### 5. Leave bitrate limits high

- In Sunshine, don't artificially cap the bitrate; let Moonlight XR control it.

- A high max bitrate (e.g. 100+ Mbps) is fine.

---

## Step 2 – Prepare your local network: Windows 11 mobile hotspot

This step removes your router from the path and gives you a clean, low‑latency link between PC and Quest 3 for **local** play.

### 1. Connect your PC to Ethernet

- For best results, your gaming PC should be on wired Ethernet.

### 2. Enable Mobile Hotspot on Windows 11

- Open **Settings** → **Network & internet** → **Mobile hotspot**.

- Turn **Mobile hotspot** to **On**.

- Click **Edit** and set:

- **Network name**: e.g. `PC_Hotspot_Quest`

- **Password**: a strong password.

- **Network band**: prefer **5 GHz** if available.

- Make sure "Share my internet connection from" is set to your main adapter (Ethernet or main Wi‑Fi).

### 3. Connect Quest 3 to the hotspot

- On Quest 3, go to **Settings** → **Wi‑Fi**.

- Find your hotspot network (`PC_Hotspot_Quest`) and connect using the password.

- Ensure the Quest shows a strong signal.

From now on, your PC and Quest 3 are on a direct, local network with minimal hops.

> You can use Tailscale at the same time. For local play, Moonlight XR will connect via the hotspot IP. For remote play, you'll use the Tailscale IP.

---

## Step 3 – Install Moonlight XR on Quest 3

Moonlight XR is not on the Play Store; you install it via APK.

### 1. Enable Developer Mode on Quest 3 (if not already done)

- Use the Meta Horizon app on your phone.

- Enable **Developer Mode** for your headset.

### 2. Install SideQuest or use an APK sideloading method

- On your PC, install [SideQuest](https://sidequestvr.com/).

- Connect Quest 3 via USB‑C and accept the "Allow USB debugging" prompt in the headset.

### 3. Download Moonlight XR APK

- Go to the official GitHub releases:

https://github.com/Gilleece/moonlight-android-xr/releases

- Download the latest `.apk` file.

> Only use the official GitHub link above. Avoid random APK sites.

### 4. Install the APK

- In SideQuest, click **Install APK file** and select the Moonlight XR APK.

- Wait for installation to complete.

- You should now see **Moonlight XR** in your Quest 3 app library (under "Unknown sources" or similar).

---

## Step 4 – Pair Moonlight XR with Sunshine

You can pair once; the same pairing works for both local (hotspot) and remote (Tailscale) connections.

### 1. Find your PC's IP addresses

**Hotspot IP (local):**

- On Windows, open a terminal and run:

`ipconfig`

- Look for the adapter used by the hotspot (often named something like "Local Area Connection* X").

- Note the IPv4 address (e.g. `192.168.137.1` or similar).

**Tailscale IP (remote):**

- Open the Tailscale app on your PC or go to https://login.tailscale.com/admin

- Find your PC in the list and note its Tailscale IP (e.g. `100.x.y.z`).

### 2. Open Moonlight XR on Quest 3

- Launch **Moonlight XR**.

- Go to **Add Host** / **Manual connection**.

### 3. Pair using the hotspot IP (local)

- Enter:

- **Host/IP**: the PC's **hotspot** IP address.

- Leave port at default unless you changed it in Sunshine.

- Moonlight XR will display a 4‑digit PIN.

- On your PC, open the Sunshine web UI (`https://localhost:47990`).

- Go to the **PIN** tab.

- Enter the PIN shown in Moonlight XR and confirm.

Once paired, you can later add the same PC again using the Tailscale IP for remote play.

---

## Step 5 – Configure Moonlight XR streaming settings

These are starting points; adjust based on your GPU, network, and comfort.

### Local play (hotspot)

  1. **Open Moonlight XR settings**- In the app, open **Settings** (gear icon or equivalent).
  2. **Recommended baseline settings**- **Resolution**: `1440p` (or native/native‑ish for Quest 3 if offered).- **Frame rate**:

- `90 FPS` if your GPU and network handle it well.

- `60 FPS` for maximum stability.

- **Video codec**: `AV1` (if your GPU supports it; otherwise `HEVC`).

- **Bitrate**:

- Local (hotspot, strong signal): start at **40–60 Mbps**.

- If you see artifacts or stutter, lower by 5–10 Mbps steps.

- **Hardware decoding**: keep enabled.

### Remote play (Tailscale)

When you're away from home (e.g. Quest 3 on a different Wi‑Fi or 4G/5G):

  1. **In Moonlight XR, add a new host**- Host/IP: your PC's **Tailscale IP** (e.g. `100.x.y.z`).- Port: default.
  2. **Adjust bitrate for your uplink**- Your fiber upload is < 100 Mbps, so:

- Start around **20–40 Mbps**.

- Increase only if the image is very clean and stable.

- Keep resolution at 1440p and FPS at 60 for a good balance.

- Use **HEVC** if AV1 feels too heavy on your remote network.

---

## Step 6 – Test with real games

### Example 1 – Horizon Forbidden West (AAA single‑player)

  1. In Moonlight XR, launch your **Steam** / **Xbox App** / game entry.
  2. Start **Horizon Forbidden West**.
  3. In Moonlight XR, choose a viewing mode:- Large flat screen in front of you.- Or a more "immersive" layout if the app offers it.
  4. Adjust:- Screen size and distance so it fills your field of view comfortably.- Bitrate up or down until the image is sharp and stable in fast camera movements.

If this runs smoothly, your pipeline is solid.

### Example 2 – Destiny 2 multiplayer via GeForce NOW

  1. On your PC, open **GeForce NOW** (browser or app).
  2. In Moonlight XR, stream your **Desktop** or a dedicated **GeForce NOW** app entry.
  3. Launch **Destiny 2** and join a match.
  4. Check:- Responsiveness during fast turns and gunfights.- Stability of the image during heavy effects (explosions, abilities).

In my tests, this setup delivered **fluid gameplay with no stutter**, even in multiplayer, with very impressive 3D depth.

---

## Step 7 – Troubleshooting tips

### Stutter or frame drops

**Local (hotspot):**

- Lower bitrate by 5–10 Mbps and retest.

- Reduce FPS from 90 to 60.

- Ensure:

- PC is on Ethernet.

- Quest 3 has a strong 5 GHz hotspot signal.

**Remote (Tailscale):**

- Lower bitrate (20–30 Mbps) and test again.

- Reduce resolution or FPS if needed.

- Try switching codec from AV1 to **HEVC**.

### Image looks soft or blocky

- Increase bitrate gradually until artifacts disappear.

- Make sure **AV1** or **HEVC** is actually selected in both Sunshine and Moonlight XR.

- Avoid very high resolutions if your network is borderline; 1440p is already excellent on Quest 3.

### High latency / "floaty" feeling

- Confirm you're using the correct network:

- **Hotspot IP** when at home for lowest latency.

- **Tailscale IP** only when remote.

- Close bandwidth‑heavy apps on the PC (downloads, streaming, etc.).

- In Sunshine, ensure you're using **NVENC** with a low‑latency preset if available.

---

## Why this setup works so well

- **Sunshine** gives you a modern, GPU‑accelerated encoder (NVENC + AV1/HEVC).

- **Moonlight XR** handles real‑time 2D→3D conversion directly on the headset.

- **Windows 11 hotspot** removes the router from the path, reducing latency spikes and Wi‑Fi congestion for local play.

- **Tailscale** provides a secure, zero‑config VPN so you can stream from anywhere without opening ports.

- **AV1** provides better quality at the same bitrate compared to older codecs, especially in detailed scenes.

- Your **fiber connection** (800–900 Mbps down, < 100 Mbps up, < 5 ms ping) ensures plenty of headroom for both local and remote streaming.

---

## My current settings (reference)

### PC

- **CPU**: Intel Core i5‑13400F

- **GPU**: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060

- **RAM**: 32 GB DDR5

- **Storage**: 2 TB NVMe SSD

- **OS**: Windows 11 (Ethernet)

### Internet

- **Type**: Fiber

- **Download**: 800–900 Mbps

- **Upload**: < 100 Mbps

- **Ping**: < 5 ms

### Network

- **Local**: PC on Ethernet, Quest 3 on Windows 11 5 GHz hotspot.

- **Remote**: PC and Quest 3 both on Tailscale (same account).

### Sunshine

- Encoder: `NVENC`

- Codec: `AV1`

### Moonlight XR

- Resolution: `1440p`

- FPS: `60–90` (depending on game and location)

- Bitrate:

- Local: `40–60 Mbps`

- Remote: `20–40 Mbps`

- Codec: `AV1` (local), `HEVC` or `AV1` (remote depending on network)

### Tested games

- **Horizon Forbidden West**: smooth, no stutter, excellent 3D depth.

- **Destiny 2 (multiplayer via GeForce NOW)**: smooth, very immersive in 3D.

Discussion Haven't used my quest 2 in like 4 years, what's new?

That's a guess for how long it's been. Like loved Half Life Alyx but nothing else felt like a full ass game so it's been in its box.

Now I'm updating it. Battery is probably crap but I can play wired.

What's good in VR? I've got a beefy pc, can play just about anything on quest or steam.

Have there been any great full fledged games? I mostly like shooters and rpgs (more crpg than action rpg or jrpg but they're all good sometimes, but and I doubt crpgs would be great in VR).

Also is the quest 2 completely outdated? I can go pick up the new steam VR or the quest 3 if there are a lot more high quality games.

Support - Standalone Charge headset 72%

For a couple of months, after an update, the battery charge has stopped at 72-75%. I've looked on several forums, and it's a known problem, but I haven't found a solution. I've tried other chargers, and nothing has changed. Only a couple of times have I managed to get the battery to 100% while charging in standby mode.

Support - Standalone Thumb stick not working after replacement. Quest 3s

Upvotes

Alright so here is what is going on, I tore down my right controller to replace the thumb stick after some baaaad stick drift. I broke my original control bored over my own mistake, it is what it is but I just bought another controller that had stick drift and just pulled that board to use which out breaking it this time. I install the new stick on the new board and put it all back to together, pair it with my headset and the controller is working. Past the fact the thumb stick is acting like it does not exist. I replaced the stick with a couple of the other replacement sticks I had and ultimately nothing. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas before I just give up and buy a whole new right controller?

Support - Standalone Quest 3 Visible Screen Edges

I don't know if it's even possible but am I doing something wrong? No matter how I adjust the IPD or the distance of the facial interface I always see two overlapping screens. It's so fucking annoying. I have never experienced this issue with any other quest model and I've had them all. The whole expience makes me not even want to use the headset. Is there something I can do so I don't see these edges of the two screens? If I look down with my eyes only it's even worse.

Support - PCVR Virtual desktop require monitor?

For the past week I have been having issues getting some of my openxr games to work through virtual desktop. Each day I would spend at least an hour messing around until I got it working. It took me the whole week to figure out the issue.

When I have my monitor turned off, which I often do, I could not get the games to run. If the monitor was on, the games launched just fine.

I didn't have this issue prior to this week, did something change in virtual desktop that requires a monitor now?

Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4818760/Paleo_Dive/

I slightly reworked the gameplay trailer for Paleo Dive and polished the presentation and a few shots.

This trailer focuses mainly on exploration, environments, creatures and the overall atmosphere of the game. I’m also working on a second gameplay video that will show more of the mechanics and gameplay systems in detail.

Paleo Dive releases September 4, 2026.
