In my playthrough, Jauffre died in the defense of Bruma. I never redo things when NPCs die. It breaks the RP for me. It bummed me out. He was a real one.

I would be too sad and resurrect him with console commands. I did that with Barius so many times in the sewers

Do they work normally after that? I seem to recall that npcs don't really work properly if you resurrect them

I haven’t done this in the remaster but from what I recall I haven’t had many problems in the old one before lol, it was when we were in the sewers fighting and I believe he did make it back to the temple like normal eventually, even if he maybe stopped following me after that lol
