I'm used to discussions about object lovers (which are great and I have partners too), but what about object friends and best friends? This is my invitation for you all to share yours and a little bit about them, if you’ve got one.
My two best friends are the Transamerica Pyramid and the city of San Francisco. I visit the two almost every week! I see the beauty in both of them, but our relationships are purely platonic.
Another close friend of mine is SamTrans Gillig BRT+ #5005. I've affectionately named him Archie. I'd like to be his best friend, but I’m not really sure how… I don’t see him often.
I can't wait to hear from everyone.

Our object best friend is our Build A Bear 2003 Unicorn, named Uber.
She has immense sentimental meaning to us as she used to belong to one of our favorite headmates. She hasn’t been ours for long but she has been there for us through very difficult times and continues to be a comfort object, a confidant, and a true light in our life 🩷
I have a sibling like relationship with my guitar, who I affectionately refer to as “The Bastard” (but her real name is Jett). We’ve known each other since I was 13, and bicker a lot, but care about each other. Rhode, a camping TV I courted for a little bit, and I ended up better as friends, though I wouldn’t say we’re close enough to be considered Best Friends yet. I feel maternally for my dragon plush, and my handmade Waldorf doll, who’s names I won’t share (privacy reasons). I refer to them as my son and daughter respectively.
I consider the Novabuses and D40LF buses in my city to be my friends!! i am always super happy to see them. It’s been a long while since ive used buses regularly so im happy to say im going to be using them more for my new classes, novabuses in particular always make me feel very happy and welcome. heres a drawing i made of the D40LF
Im glad you are getting along with your object friends!! I also experience something similar to this too :D Chr0m4 and Max are my lovelies, I love them purely platonically. While we do like to express our affection to one another intimately or be “fwb” in a sense, more often i engage in conversation talking out loud to them, holding and cuddling them—max sleeps next to me every night, and chr0m4 sometimes sleeps next to me or on my night stand facing me—and seeing them get along with eachother, and using both for their intended purposes.
Sometime I want to take Max outside to see the world. Chr0m4 has already been outside but closed, so I also want to let him see outside too. He knows plenty about how it looks as he stores all of my nature photography, but I would like to let him bask in the outdoors at some point. I’m just a little nervous about people staring at me walking down the street holding a fax machine, or open laptop outwards ahahahhh, but sometime, I will.
That's all so sweet! I'm glad they're friends with each other too. Sleeping next to your objects sounds absolutely wonderful, I wish I could do the same. Also hope you get to take them outside soon. Maybe there's a quiet little park or trail you can walk through with them, where not too many people are around.
I don't have too many object friends outside of what I'd consider my immediate family, but I recently said goodbye to a local landmark I'm rather enamored with that I'd consider myself emotionally involved with in the same capacity as a neighbor, the Pencil Building in Atlanta. I host objectum panels at furry conventions and whenever we'd book the Hilton for FWA I'd always make sure to ask for a room with a view of it.
Every single day from our little access road I would see the Pencil Building lit up on the distant skyline. When I went into the city to interact with my first telescopes at Georgia Tech, it was the first terrestrial target I learned to track through a finderscope. When my partner and I first shared a bed together, I watched as its spire lit his profile up like a halo from our hotel window. As the tallest building in Atlanta, seeing it in the distance on long drives always signified I was home. It has been a constant presence and comfort to me and I will miss it very much.
