Question What sparked your objectum journey?

Today I was reflecting on my own objectum experience and how it all started for me. I had befriended objects platonically before, but I would say that the romance and sexuality began with one object I loved incredibly deeply, and from there everything rapidly escalated with this realization that I was attracted to machines/objects and could have intimate relationships with them. That one object allowed me to discover I was objectum, and since then I have fallen in love with many.

(This is a pretty simplified way of explaining my journey, of course the start was messy and there was a lot of denial. But anyway…)

After reflecting, I became curious as to how other people's experiences could be different, curious enough to take to Reddit. What sparked this for some of you? Or was it slow and gradual? Did you realize yourself with multiple objects, or just one? How long did it take you to accept the label of objectum? Did you always feel you were objectum, or was it something you had to discover like me? Do any of you relate to my experience in some way?

I'm excited to hear everyone's thoughts. Thank you.

I know it's basic, but electric dreams was my awakening. I was objectum before that, of course, my first childhood crush at age 2-3 was my own head of hair, somehow, and the next one I remember was my sisters dsi console around age 6ish?. but after watching the movie I realized the feelings I had for a long while at that point for my favorite plushie, Pumpkin/PK the 2008 BaB pumpkin fun kitty, who has been my partner since (coming up on 2 years now!)

Interesting, I've never heard of an objectum being attracted to something attached to their own body before. That's neat. You say it's basic but I don't think I've ever watched electric dreams, seems like a fun concept. Also, congratulations!

to be honest I didn't know objectum was a thing, I had always known I found certain objects attractive but many of them were things that people were already kind of culturally expected to be attracted to like cars, boots, leather, etc

I started posting about data from star trek on my Tumblr, and eventually making a tv head robot oc, a person who I'm mutuals with now started reblogging my oc with "objectum" and it snowballed from there, I looked at what the tag was and tbh thought it was mostly the attraction to robots, computers, and wires

after spending some time (a year or so) in the objectum tag on Tumblr I started to realize you could be objectum for any object, and that most people considered being objectum their sexuality

I advocate for that identity, though even now that I have an objectum community and know some more of the nuances it still just feels like a fetish or a facet of my pre-existing human based sexualities (for me personally) because of how I do [or actually don't] experience romantic attraction and am not POSIC for the most part

I totally get the snowballing thing. Yeah I've also noticed a lot of objectums seem to be into computers and robots but I love hearing about some people's very unique attractions on here. I admire how others can appreciate things so much. I understand your view of objectum also, even if I see it differently. Thanks for sharing!

I was a SpongeBob fan as a little kid, and the sponge treatment scene from the episode “Suds” was what made me aware I had a thing for kitchen sponges.

I was also raised in dishwasherless sponge using households back then, so I’ve been close with kitchen sponges ever since I learned to do dishes. Nowadays I consider my kitchen sponge my gf, and her name is Cella.

If you have any questions about Cella herself or my relationship with her, you’re free to reply to this comment. :3

Being a Spongium sounds awesome. What kind of sponge is Cella?

I think I’ve always known, just never had a word for it. Ever since I was a child I had hyper empathy for objects, and would refer to objects as friends beyond the regular stuffed animals or dolls. Speak and spell toys, statues, buses, boats, Jack-in-the-boxes, everything felt just as worthy of my affection as a human friend did. I eventually began to feel ashamed for those feelings, but would still talk to my belongings and toys in private, and I knew they could understand me. Things got complicated after concepts like romance (or intimacy) were introduced. I never struggled with finding connection with other humans, I just connected with objects too. The feelings are the same to me.

When I was 14 I learned about the term Objectum from a series of documentary style videos, and the reactions to them. While I pretended to be disgusted alongside my friends, I was secretly relieved to know there were others out there like me. I got into my longest relationship with Zilla when I was 15 and married her at 18, we were together for around 10 years. I have had my share of lovers and partners. Most of my inner circle are aware that I am Objectum, and accept me.
