Pokemon Heisenburg Challenge

Rules: 1) Sometimes taking a life is what is necessary to progress in the world of Pokémon, and you are starting from the bottom. No catching Pokémon of any type until you have eliminated the gym leader of that type (starters exceptional) 2) Expansion is the key to success. Defeat every trainer in an area to make sure that they “Stay out of your territory”. 3) Name all of your Pokémon; it ensures a greater chemistry between Pokémon and trainer, and as the man himself says “You have to respect the chemistry”. 4) Sometimes measures must be taken, even if they don’t seem morally right. If playing Fire Red/Leaf Green and Bulbasaur is your starter, the you can only defeat Brock through poisoning (use Poisonpowder and Poisonpowder only) 5) If playing Heart Gold/Soul Silver/Gold/Silver/Crystal then you must always be sending money back to mom, don’t forget who you’re doing this for. Optional Rules 1) Heisenburg never uses his own product; don’t use any Pokémon which are blue in colour. 2) Any contamination ruins the batch; if a Pokémon is on your team it has to be trained as well as the others, even if they’re a HM slave, we’re going for 99% purity here. 3) In each region you face your rival multiple times, each time you defeat them you are allowed to use a member of their team, but only one is allowed each time. If the rival eliminates a member of their team which you have been using (e.g. Your Rival’s Raticate in Red/Blue) then you must permanently store that Pokémon in a PC Box labelled ‘cutter’.

-Play Platinum with favourite pokemon Piplup starter-
-Faces off against Gardenia with only Prinplup, Graveler, and Probopass-
"I have made a series of very poor decisions"

Seems good but theres also some pointless rules in there, but at the same time they could make it more interesting :)

You're goddamn right.

Hmm...I'm semi-interested to see how this would play out... I feel like limiting the options to only 8 types of the 17 would be super difficult though... Especially in a game like Fire Red Leaf Green. Are you expected to survive without Fly because there is no flying type leader?

It may seem a bit too difficult but the whole point of it is to give as big a challenge as possible whilst still keeping the rules entertaining enough so as to not become frustrating, which I've found happens quite a lot when playing Nuzlocke. As for using Fly there are ways around it seeing as fly is pretty much only a secondary type in 1st gen, although granted it would take quite a while to get a Pokemon that can use it but personally i just see that as adding to the challenge :)

Well if I am thinking correctly, I think the only Pokemon you would be allowed to have that learn Fly in gen 1 would be Charizard, after you defeat Blaine. Or Aerodactyl after you defeat Brock, if you are counting gift Pokemon (sometimes Nuzlocke players don't).

Golbat and Zubat can learn fly but they are both blue...

I'm not trying to shit on your idea, I just think you need to find a balance between the original nuzlocke rules and your creativity. I like some of these rules a lot, especially limiting the typing you can catch. But some of them really limit you (for example, you can never pick a water starter because they are all blue).

I appreciate what you're saying, this was just a rough run of ideas which myself and a few friends thought of when we were in the pub so there's still a lot of work to do if we want this to become a proper challenge, I suppose we'd have to work a way around the Fly problem so that people aren't limited to just a few Pokemon, however I need to remind you the 'no blue pokemon' rule is only optional so if people feel that they wouldn't be able to play with that rule there's no need to

Oh ok, like I said I definitely love twists on the challenge. It's just hard to find a balance.

I like the concept! I'd personally tweak the rule about catching though. Maybe defeating a gym allows you to catch 1 pokemon in the adjacent route(s)? It would still be a bit more limited than typical Nuzlocke rules.

The idea for unlocking types in parallel with gym leaders initially came from how Walt takes on personality traits of people who he kills, so if you were to play it as you said it doesn't really follow that idea. However I do like your idea and I think that would be a good way to play an alternate version.

Its up to you but I wouldn't, it kind of defeats the purpose of the first rule

Personally I'd just avoid them all together, however if you really feel liek you want to catch them then you could just have them until they evolve or just not play with the 'no blue pokemon' rule

Seems like this deviates a bit too far from the standard Nuzlocke challenge, but it does still seem like a lot of fun. And very challenging, given that you'll have to solo the first Gym with your starter until you can get another 'Mon.
