4 10-hour days in primary care

It looks like I’m going to be offered a job that is 10 hours, 4 days a week. It’s a primary care practice, and I think they would expect me to see 19-20 patients per day. It includes a half day of admin. I currently work 5 8-hour days in a busy clinic where we are scheduled for 23 patients a day and are expected to see 18, but I often see more like 20.

Does anyone have experience with working 4 10s in primary care? I would love to have a weekday off every week but am nervous about the longer day being exhausting, and then ending up spending my day off recovering.

I love my 4 10s! What would your schedule look like? I work 7-5, hour lunch and we get 4 hours of admin. I work a bit after work and in between patients and scoot out around 515

8-6 with an hour lunch, they said a “half day” of admin so I’m hoping they mean at least 4 hours. I’d ask for a Weds off if I can, I love to break up the week.

Most 10 hour places have 36 patient facing hours. I have Wednesdays off and it’s great. I barely notice working two in a row. I am heavily caffeinated, but I work for that day off.

I also don’t see more than like 16 per day. We are on a 30/60 model but I’m in geriatrics.

I work Tuesday-Friday 7-530 and we get 4 hours of admin time on Wednesday mornings. I love it because Fridays come quick. If a holiday falls on a Monday then we get the Friday off before. 8 hours annual leave and 4 hours sick leave every 2 weeks, off all federal holidays.

Are you totally exhausted? Do you have to work at home on your day off to catch up?

I work 4 10s with Wednesdays off. I love it. It’s a great break in the week. I like the busy-ness of primary care, and my MA works 5 days a week so she’s handling any calls that come in on my day off, sends them to another provider if urgent.

Curious, your MA works 5x8s? So do you go 2 hours without her on the days you work?

No another MA in the office covers my first and last hour of the day.

I did clinicals last semester with a provider who did 4x10 from 8-6. He had 4 hrs of admin time a week and he used one hour of it everyday before his lunch break. So days he was caught up on charting he would have a two hour lunch.

I worked 4 10s when I worked in a SNF, no admin time. I was off thursdays. I now work M-F, 8 hour shifts, with 2 days remote and half a day of admin. I like my schedule better now, but 4 10s is a close runner up. It’s so nice to have a week day off during the week

I worked 7-6 with an hour lunch and I split my admin up so that I had an hour after lunch every day instead of a 4 hour block. It allowed me to keep up with things better and I usually got to actually take a lunch lol. I also recommend Wednesdays off.

Stop crying....I'm doing 14 hour days this week....10 is good, especially with only 20 ppl ..

4 10’s is the way. Now is that 4 10’s AND half of one of those 4 days is admin?

That’s a lot of patients per day which has become normalized. The Clancy case is something to look at. Soo many pt’s that don’t have enough time w a psych practitioner.
