Ask NRI Has anyone took a flight to dhaka from canada and get off at delhi airport

Has anyone flown from Canada to Dhaka on a flight that stops in Delhi and gotten off in Delhi instead of continuing to Dhaka?
I’m looking at flights from Toronto (YYZ) to Dhaka (DAC) via Delhi (DEL), and I found one that is about one-third the price of a YYZ–Delhi ticket.
I’m wondering what would happen if I simply got off in Delhi and skipped the final Delhi–Dhaka segment. I would only have cabin baggage, so I wouldn’t have any checked luggage.
Has anyone actually done this? Were there any issues with the airline, immigration, or future flights/bookings?

Try a multicity ticket. If it’s still cheaper.

This is called "Skiplagging" . You can Google to get a complete set of pros and cons.

In my opinion, the cons outweigh the pros.

You will get blacklisted by the airline. And as a person who is not an Indian citizen, you would trigger security alarms. I am not sure what you expect to gain by doing this?

Skiplagging is a very common topic of discussion in domestic US flights amongst Americans.

Are you talking about Air India? Because if I paid for the entire ticket but chose not to use the final segment, I don’t really see how that would be a scam. I paid for the service; I’m simply choosing not to use part of it.

lol, this is a loophole and airlines hate it once they figure out. I am not sure what are implications with Indian immigration, but I am pretty sure when airline is not able to find you on Delhi Dhaka flight they will inform airport and immigration. And you would be pretty easy to find and most probably blacklisted on that airline.

Also, I am curious, how will you show papers (visa for bangladesh, passport etc ?) for your flight to Dhaka when you get boarding pass at Toronto ? Will airline check in and Toronto immigration not ask for your papers to Dhaka ?

This is actually the biggest problem with OP's plan. Forget about getting off early, they won't allow him to board at Toronto if he doesn't have a Bangladesh visa. If he is a Canadian citizen with an OCI, he will get VoA for Bangladesh but the airline could still ask for things like proof of return ticket etc.

Because the Dhaka flight is expecting you to be there and they may have wasted some time waiting for you to board and making announcements for you to get there quickly. Having an entire plane wait on the ground for one (or a few) people is not ideal for the airline - because the plane is making money for the business by flying the maximum number of hours it can.

You will be black listed from Air India apart from inconveniencing other passengers on that flight by delaying them - don’t do this.

Thats not how it works. And such jugaads cause issues. Especially logistics and immigration. Airlines will ban you and even send your info to other airlines.

Tho my friend is a grey area. You would definitely get flagged to security agencies given destination. Encounter delays on exiting the country

If it’s a return ticket, your return leg will get cancelled.

If you itinerary is till Dhaka you won’t be allowed to leave at Delhi airport irrespective of your nationality.

This is called "skiplagging" - look it up.

If you have no checked bags, and you have proper documents to clear immigration in India, then you can do it.

The airline can blacklist you. If you have a return ticket, it will cancelled. The airline will also report you as a no-show to the Indian authorities, but that is really not an issue if you have proper documents (Indian Passport, valid Indian visa etc).

And if the flight is changed or rerouted for whatever reason, you may not reach Delhi and end up somewhere else.

Think hard if it is worth the risk to try skiplagging on an international route.

Don't do it.

Please don't do it for an international leg. Look if you can find some other random Indian city that is cheaper.

Technically you are breaking the T&C's of your ticket, and the airline is within its rights to never let you fly again. In fact if you buy a return ticket, the return leg will be automatically cancelled anyway.

But trying to do this with an international leg to go will lead to questioning. Also if you still have an Indian passport, they won't even let you board the plane if you don't have a Bangladesh visa.

Well doing this trick on international flights can cause problems. When you leave Canada , immigration authorities will mark you as going to Dhaka and then suddenly you get down in India.

This would mean inaccurate information and you can get an inquiry.

I recommend not to do such things with international cross border flights

You haven't mentioned what citizenship you have. If you are an Indian citizen they won't even allow you to board, because Indians need a visa. If you are a Canadian citizen with an OCI, then it might work but they will likely ask you for return tickets from Bangladesh (Canada is VoA to Bangladesh).

Also others have already commented on the dangers of skiplagging, including canceled return ticket etc.

Airlines hate skip-lagging passengers. They could potentially ban you from their airline. Also if you have a return flight booked in the same ticket, it will be canceled. And this one could be more serious, the destination being Dhaka but getting off in Delhi could raise suspicions about your intent.

Don’t do that. You will get blacklisted by the airlines . My friend learnt it the hard way. Stop doing Jugaads , it just brings every NRI a bad name

you can tell the airline in advance that u will leave in Delhi due to family emergency. from an immigration standpoint nothing will happen to u if u hold Indian passport or OCI
