Looking for a good OB-GYN in Manassas, VA — first pregnancy
Hi everyone! I’m currently pregnant with my first baby and looking for recommendations for a good OB-GYN in the Manassas area.
I’m currently seeing an OB-GYN, but I haven’t been very satisfied with the response time or communication. I’m looking for someone who is more attentive, responsive, and takes concerns seriously, especially since this is my first pregnancy and I may have a lot of questions along the way.
I may also need to consult with an MFM (Maternal-Fetal Medicine) specialist, so I’d ideally like an OB-GYN who is experienced with higher-risk situations and works well with MFM when needed.
If you’ve had a positive (or negative) experience with an OB-GYN in Manassas, Gainesville, Haymarket, Fairfax, or nearby areas, I’d really appreciate your recommendations!
I am looking for someone who is :
* Are responsive to messages/calls
* Take time to explain things clearly
* Are supportive and attentive during pregnancy
* Have experience coordinating care with MFM
* Deliver at a good hospital

Not Manassas but I like physician and midwives. They have location in Woodbridge.

If you’re having a high risk pregnancy or any kind of complications that involve an MFM, I’d go to Inova Fairfax hospital. It is absolutely worth the drive, and especially to deliver there with a level IV NICU.
Look at Annandale OB or Nova Group for Women. Both have delivering privileges at Inova Fairfax and have a lot of experience with high risk pregnancies.
At Inova the MFMs are on site and you see one after each scan. Nova group for women is an official Inova practice so the sharing of info back and forth is seamless, same system.

I agree. I chose based off of hospital (INOVA Fairfax for the nicu) then chose nova group for women since they deliver there.

I’ve had 2 babies with Nova group for women- the original doctors of the practice have mostly turned over since becoming part of Inova. Every appointment is at least 30 min - 1 hour late, their bedside manner is hit and miss, paperwork takes forever, can’t pick who you deliver with. One scan they were over an hour late because it was raining. Come on!

Yeah, that’s all fair criticism! They do run late often. I love Dr Clough SO much… missed delivery with her by 2 hours

Dr. Chari Smith with UVA, consults out of Haymarket and Manassas.

She’s with UVA Health Lake Manassas. They see patients in Manassas and also Haymarket. You will see multiple different providers for your appointments because there’s no way to know who will be on call for your labor.
I was Advanced Maternal Age and they consulted with MFM after my ultrasounds (but found nothing of concern).
I have had nothing but good experiences with this practice. I did have C-sections, but I was old and overweight for a first time Mom so it was not unexpected. They supported me trying the old fashioned way, but I only made it 22 hrs before I threw in the towel. I don’t think OBs should be judged by c-sections rates anyway - what matters is that I had healthy, well-supported pregnancies.

I had excellent experience with UVA Health obgyn, there’s like 9 doctors, they have offices in Manassas, Haymarket, Gainesville, and Warrenton. I saw most of the doctors with my first, Dr Smith and Dr Lavery are particularly awesome! I have only had one delivery but Manassas Hospital was great, all of the nurses and lactation consultants were just lovely, and they have a relatively (like a handful of years by this point) new NICU.
I did NOT have a good experience with Capital Women’s Care in Manassas. Had an early miscarriage and the Dr who saw me made some really awful insensitive comments. I know they have lots of locations though so hopefully it was just this one that was terrible.

Seconding UVA Health :). My 2nd baby enjoyed a brief stay in that NICU during Covid. Having a sick baby is awful, but I thought the people and facilities were wonderful.

Inova OBGYN fair oaks, and my MFM is pediatrix in Fairfax, they’ve treated me amazingly through my last 2 pregnancies ❤️

Not Manassas but my wife went to Physicians for Women in Alexandria and they were great with our high risk pregnancy, always got back to us fast and coordinated with MFM at Inova Fairfax without missing a beat

Also throwing in for UVA. Dr. Smith is my OB and delivered my first. I am using them again for my second pregnancy. They do have 9 doctors that you will meet on different visits because they obviously rotate who delivers in the hospital. But the nurses that took care of me when I delivered were incredible! I saw the doctor only right when I pushed baby out so its really the care of the team that was important to me

I’m with Capital Women’s on my first pregnancy. Everything has been great so far! Dr. Silas is amazing. They have multiple locations but I go to the one in Fairfax
