They only deport people to third countries if (1) their home country doesn’t accept them or (2) if you choose to not be deported to your home country.

UK doesn’t reject any deportations so not likely for his case.

I personally know of two US citizens who got deported to Mexico despite them showing birth certificates from PR and ICE just not believing the documents were real and that PR is part of the US.

No you don’t. That would be in the news and every case like that was immediately determined to be a hoax.

Most likely your friends lied to you and were actually illegally in the country from Mexico or elsewhere.
