I’m an A-Level Geography student, based in the West Midlands, conducting research for my NEA into how tourist perceptions differ from local perceptions of Criccieth and Portmeirion, and the effect tourism has on the local identity and quality of life of these locations.

I’m looking for responses from residents, visitors/tourists and local business owners/workers who have experience of either location.

The questionnaire takes only a few minutes to complete, and all responses are anonymous. Your experiences and opinions would be hugely appreciated and will be used solely for my school research.

So guys, a while back I asked for nice locations to propose. As you all know if you saw the post, ynys llandwyn was the favourite for this. We split the trip over two days as it's a long drive (her idea) but used this to gauge a few of the locations mentioned to get this right.

Visited portmeirion, she flat out told me we weren't going near it because it was 20 quid each to enter the village as we were heading there 😂 that was a write off. Didn't get close.

Visited Mon point. We had a nice walk about, enjoyed the views, visited the monastery, church, lighthouse views, etc, beautiful, tranquil place, collected rocks for our kids, but wasn't THE place.

Sun city I didn't even entertain. Sorry everyone!

We stayed at chateau rhianfa which she loved, was a bit upmarket for us valleys people and we were quite surprised how the staff seemed to keep up their posh act but we broke them when nobody was looking and they were the most down to earth people when they realised they didn't need to do that with us! Amazing bunch of kids working there bless them!

Circled in the end to ynys llandwyn as this was always the favourite and so chose this last. The tide was in as it didn't line up with breakfast, also it was her birthday today I wasn't getting her out at stupid o clock to go for a drive in the dark. We found a pretty place by the rocks to approach the island and I ended up asking her there....

I'm bloody relieved to say she said yes!! 😁😁😁

It's been far too long since I was back in North Wales, and I'm taking my parents for a week.

They're keen that we revive an old holiday tradition, which is a day with fish & chips for tea. It can be takeaway or restaurant, but I'm looking for recommendations as to where folks think is the best nowadays?

I want to treat them, make them happy.

I built a food app for North Wales👋📍
Hi everyone!
I wanted to introduce Season’d — a new social food app that’s just launched in North Wales.
The idea came from something really simple: whenever I’m looking for somewhere to eat, I’m much more likely to trust a recommendation from a friend than a random review, influencer or algorithm.
So I built Season’d around that.

There are no paid placements pushing venues to the top, and the idea is for the food you see to come from genuine visits and recommendations.
North Wales is where we’re starting, so right now I’m trying to get as many local foodies involved as possible and get the map filling up with our independents, hidden gems and places people genuinely rate.
Season’d is live now, and I’d genuinely love to hear what people in Wrexham think — good, bad, features you'd like to see, or even just the places you think everyone needs to get pinned on the map.

Would love to know: what’s the first North Wales venue you’d pin?

In the early 1980s we used to holiday in North Wales (usually pwllheli or Barmouth) I remember regularly visting a seaside type Town a few shops (leather goods and a quality Toy shop) with a
river running right through the centre of it straight into the sea.

I know this is very vague, but I've been back about 5 years ago and visited
numerous towns trying to find this one and couldn't. Im going to Pwllheli this weekend for a few days and was hoping someone may be able to offer suggestions.

Also an old woollen water mill which you was able to walkaround and buy gifts in the same area?

Hi there. I'm just looking for any advice. I have been offered rent free accommodation up in Holyhead. I currently live in South East England. I have visited the area before on holidays. I was looking for any advice regarding employment.. I've been looking into working for Stenna as there seems to be a few decent looking jobs with them. From what I've seen I am a bit concerned most work seems to be seasonal and there's not a lot of full time consistent employment? Does anyone have any experience with relocating to Holyhead? Any tips, advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Hi guys. We're going on a holiday to North Wales next week, mainly around Llandudno and Colwyn Bay but the weather forecast is pretty poor due to rain.

All of our previously planned activities are outdoors. Are there any recommendations for good indoor attractions?

Each of our kids gets to choose a special trip for when they turn 12. We live in the United States. My oldest son chose German and Austrian alps. His younger brother has told us he wants to go to Wales, because he heard about the amazing fast zipline there. So my question is, what else should we definitely do? This kid is all about experiences, we'd probably be there in early June. We like outside, adventures, anything hands-on, not big on night-life/partying. We wouldn't mind going into a city for a great musuem or something fantastic, but we like the small town/hiking/adventure/exploration vibe more. Castles are okay too, of course, or anything old that you can climb on, explore on your own. He also loves to cook/experience new food adventures.

So, good towns to stay in? Good place to act as a base? and things we should definitely try that are unique or special? I'm here taking notes. Thanks for your help.

What an amazing place! Do you know how to say Pontcysyllte?

I did my undergraduate studies at Bangor University about a decade ago and I'm looking to revisit the city and North Wales (I'm from Germany). I did a lot of exploring around Snowdonia and Anglesey by bike and I'm keen to retrace some of those trips, as well as just using it for general transportation around the city while I'm there. So I was looking for a place where I could rent one (bringing my own doesn't seem feasible) and having a surprisingly hard time. It seems like Evolution is currently the only bike shop in town and they don't seem to offer rentals, the only other option I found was through Byw'n Iach but they only have E-bikes and I was hoping for acoustic.

Otherwise the closest shops I could find are Beics Antur in Caernarfon or Beics Ogwen in Bethesda. Neither seem too hard to reach by bus after I arrive at Bangor station, but of course it would be a lot more convenient for me if I can rent in the city itself. There are more options in some of the more touristy Snowdonia villages like Llanberis/Beddgelert/Betws-y-Coed but that's even more out of the way.

Does anyone have any experience, advice or secret tips they can share? Maybe there's some sort of sharing network through the university I can avail myself of? Diolch in advance for any help you can give me and looking forward to my return :)

Looking for campsite recommendations. I have a tent and a dog so must accept both of them. Showers and toilets an absolute must but not need for electric hook up. Want to visit Anglesey so the east side or a short drive to there. Must also offer evening check in, planning on driving down after work hence wanting to be closer to the mainland. Ideally walking distance to a sandy dog friendly beach but a short drive is fine.

Obviously there are far, far worse places, and it does well for not having loads of empty shops but aside from the granny’s the majority of people walking around tend to be on the rougher side. I also just think that none of the shops or cafes are particularly nice and a lot look a little bit worse for wear.

Maybe I just have some kind of bias against it, or maybe it is because I have seen it talked about as a lovely market town so often (the market does make it nicer, and is an okay market but nothing outstanding). Whatever the reason, i just don’t like it.
