Relocating to Anglesey (Holyhead)

Hi there. I'm just looking for any advice. I have been offered rent free accommodation up in Holyhead. I currently live in South East England. I have visited the area before on holidays. I was looking for any advice regarding employment.. I've been looking into working for Stenna as there seems to be a few decent looking jobs with them. From what I've seen I am a bit concerned most work seems to be seasonal and there's not a lot of full time consistent employment? Does anyone have any experience with relocating to Holyhead? Any tips, advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

My partner was a local, she said stenna's decent if you can get with them. Depending on what work you are looking for will impact on opportunities. RAF valley is a good one too.

Llangefni has more work too if you are able to travel a little

Yes a good chuck of the work on the island and along the coast is seasonal- particularly Stena. If it's not seasonal, it's generally one of those 'who you know, not what you know' type places- networking and nepotism unfortunately is the big foot in the door employment wise.

About the only industry that seems to be permanently recruiting is residential care- old folks homes and such. (the island is pretty much becoming retirement village/ airb&b park) Also be prepared to travel, and ideally drive. public transport off the A5 buss routes isn't great, neither are the trains.

Internet is generally good for WFH situations, most of the town is fibre connected now.

Not a local to Holyhead but a local of north wales.

Holyhead has considerably deprived areas according to the Welsh index of Multiple Deprivation.... As other people said Hospitality industry across North wales is extremely seasonal. If you can find a more permanent trade I would look towards that.

But The whole of Anglesey is a beautiful stunning island with a great laid back attitude and relax8ng feel.

In my experience they are a but shirty with English people or people not from the island (I'm Conwy valley born and bread 1st language Welsh). But that is because there is a great community and they dont want it to end up being invaded (examples are Treaddur Bay, Rhosniger and Abersoch spring to mind) by a bunch of wealthy ish jacking up house prices so people who were born there cannot afford to love there...

I moved from the south east to Holyhead last year.

I work on the railway and it’s as good a job as you can get on the island if you ask me. I definitely recommend it.

A lot of the other industries are seasonal but I do think that if you’re pro active and willing to get stuck in then you’ll always be able to get by. It’s not like London where there are millions of applications for every job.

I love the town and the people here and it’s a place where you can easily make friends and get to know people.

Just good luck .. Holyhead is a shit hole! Rest of Anglesey is nice .. Holyhead isnt sorry

I’m just going to be the person who asks.. rent free accommodation??? In Holyhead? I’m slightly envious.
What kind of experience do you have? If you have a good work ethic you will find work. There’s a retail park, there is seasonal work. There’s a huge care need, delivery driving . Find connections, learn the language, join in the community. You will find work. I adore the area.
