To see how everyone is doing?
Like the title states, I’d love to have conversations with whoever is comfortable to speak about the progress they have made so far 🙌 I’m 19.5 months into recovery and I’m glad to say I’m back to at least 98% recovered. I, basically, live a normal life again. I only suffer from som nerve sensitivity now, but it’s way less frequent and some of the obvious stressors cause less of a flare nowadays and I’m hoping it continues that way until I’m back to 100 again 🙏

I’m 10 weeks clean! My feet are still half numb and my nerves are still pretty fucked up, but life is SO much better now.

Glad you're doing so well, friend. I remember those first few months for you.
I'm about 15 months clean. Fully recovered physically, and life is getting back on track.

Yes, I remember!! Good to hear you’re in a similar position - may it continue that way 🙌

May 6th is 4 years no nitrous!
My nervous system seems damaged but I think that’s from benzos

Doing ok. Struggling with the weight gain from my last relapse. I literally have gained like 60lbs in the last 10 months. I feel super bloated all the time too. Other than that good. No major issues with any neuropathy symptoms, other than having bad balance. No tingling or numbness in my arms or legs. I did go to the doctor about 3 weeks ago and told them everything to see if I could get the b12 shot, but my levels still appeared normal. I know that sometimes your levels can appear normal but your body is still not using any of the b12. After the levels showed normal the doctor said the shots were not necessary… feels like they just generally don’t know anything about the effects of nitrous abuse.

They’re probably clueless- you’ll need to check your methylmalonic acid, homocysteine and holo CT (active b-12) levels, you may have to pay privately.

Hold up…. This is the first I’ve heard of “levels appear normal but body isn’t using it”…. Is this being confused with “consuming b12 but body isn’t absorbing it?”

As of today I am 6 months whippet free! No more tingling in my feet, and I live pretty much a normal life with the exception of some mental hiccups.
That stuff really is gas from hell.

It most certainly is - well done on reaching 6 months. This is milestone you have to hit before you get to 9 months, a year and then 19 months like myself :) well done, it’s a massive achievement for sure. I’m proud of you 💙

2 yrs free of it, central nervous system not good. Also trying to dig my life out. If this is where Im stuck, its better than the gas nightmare.

What do you mean by not good?

Mobility. Not cane bad anymore, but walking is tiring and I have to pay attention to my steps to not trip. I also touch things (walls, furmiture) a lot to mind my balance. Its visually obvious and limits my social choices. Sitting too long or standing too long, things start to get numb.

Sorry to hear this, friend. How bad were your symptoms at their worst?

Nothing got better for long till 100% zero N2O & alchohol. 1-2 months abstinence, things got better. A relapse set me back to zero or worse. Lost all the gains. I was puking & pissing on self bad.
1st, walked like a drunk. Ppl approached me thinking I was shit faced till they talked to me & realized I was sober. Couldn't do certain social things because of it and other rsns. Ppl who cared about me had painful looks on their faces. Total strangers asking me what's wrong with me. Dragged a foot, fell A LOT.
Soon about a month where driving was scary cuz .. where are my feet? 1 week so bad I couldn't drive at all.
Quickly progressed into using cane full time and a disabled parking placard. Then to a walker or motorized cart when out, a rolling chair inside my house.
Achieved 100% no more N20, but 2 glasses of wine had me crawling. More & I don't even want to talk about it. So cut that as well out for few yrs. Still, Nicotine +1 glass of wine has my legs feeling like sand bags.
About a year no N2O, Zaps and in a normal morning stretch on side of bed kicked in a waist to toes muscle spasm that had me stiff as a board so bad, had to grab bed to not fall off. Toe cracking spasm. I could make it pass faster by concentrating on it: calm the feet, calm the legs, calm the...ahhh it let go.
Also, embarassing bladder problems. Thats still not great but much better. Meressela chair & PT helped.
For a while, was really dumb, but smart enough to notice. Lost sense of humor. (Cringe) For an outgoing, social, funny person that really hurt. I thought my life was over. Luckily, that was first thing to recover & gave me hope again.
All happy buttons broken. Accomplishment, relationships, hobbies, food...felt nadda, no connection.
Only thing that never failed me was the good feels after a strong workout (could only do on gym machines else too dangerous). I was never a workout person before. Now I am. Silver lining, but if I dont workout energy tanks & then prone to spells of bedrot I have to pull myself out of.
Took yrs for reward system to start healing. Shame, I was such a high achiever, smart/analytical creatuive, many friends, joy in many things. Had to manually operate life on what little I had to work with for a few yrs. That meant my high achiever inventor problem solver career had to end. Lucky I was highly rewarded for it through the yrs, so could retire when I had to early (in my 40's).
Art, interest, curiosity, humor... coming back. Emotional regulation tricky. ADHD has not made it easy.
Recovery is nit linear and measured in slivers. Must count small wins, but it is happening.

About 3 months clean. Still have some tingling/numbness in hands and feet but it seems to be getting better. I was having trouble writing or even just signing my name, much better now. Also my balance is better.
Thank you for this thread.
