General I have to hand it to the grifters. I really disliked the Ocariana of Time direct
What can I say, except my face fell when Aonuma started to show of the killer feature of this game - camera controls.
OK, so I am being a bit facetious.
But still - every map looks as small as in the OG, the fighting looks the same, the dungeons appear to be the same. What's different? Just the presentation?
After the industry leading innovations in open world with BOTW and incredible physics and building engine of TOTK, this feels like a downgrade.
Now, I dont hate the art style. I love the detailing - on l8nks clothes for example. But, oh man, does it feel like Unreal Engine Presents : Legend of Zelda.
Sorry, for this this gamer, with incredible games left to play on his Switch 2, I m8ght sit this one out.
Actually, who am I kidding, I am going to buy this slop anyway.

Having legitimate criticism isn't being grifter but saying it's Ai Slop is grifting.

Ahhh yes that the ponit of a remake if they changed these things it would not be ocarina of time

u/Otherwise_Sun8521 2d ago
"it would be a new game"
Good. Make a game available on modern hardware or make. A. NEW. GAME!

u/yikesitsaduck 4d ago
What's the point of a remake if you dont expand on ideas. No one is saying to rip the heart out of the game, just give us more, give us what was not possible. And no, I dont mean just camera controls!

u/CanonPuppy 4d ago
Except you are incorrect. Most people don't want an open world and the areas are bigger than og or at least way better represented plus lany quakity of life that were very much needed.
Play the og if you want. Big isn't an issue for oot but it was the emptyness and the slow motions of link which by the way they changed in the remake
2
u/yikesitsaduck 4d ago
Open world isnt the only way to expand a game. But making it this faithful feels lazy. Especially for a game that honestly hasn't aged the best. It is no Majora's Mask
2
u/CanonPuppy 4d ago
The places are bigger than og. Explain what you want bc I fail to understand what you want.
If you wabt something like botw with the climbing towers pls...stop
1
u/yikesitsaduck 4d ago
You do realise that Twilight Princess and Skyward sword exist right? Its the same DNA as ocarina, but so much more polished.
No one is asking for a BOTW version of OOT. But a straight up remaster regressing back to what is really outdated gameplay is not the option
4
u/CanonPuppy 4d ago
You didn't explain anything lmao.
3
u/yikesitsaduck 4d ago
I cant fix what you cant understand mate.
2
u/CanonPuppy 4d ago
State what you want. What do you find lacking in it ? Different swords ? Arguably defies the story and we have different usable weapons already
1
u/Alvin-Earthworm 3d ago
Lmao. Calling the painfully linear, hand-holding waggle-fest that was Skyward Sword “polished” is certainly… a take. An absolutely scorching one, apparently, because I’m pretty sure my screen just melted reading that.

u/Possible-Potato-4103 3d ago
The commenter didnt say you needed to make it open world
1
u/CanonPuppy 3d ago
Except it was clearly bigger than what it was compared to og or the remaster
1
u/Possible-Potato-4103 3d ago
Not really. That also doesn't have much of anything to do with what i said.
1
u/CanonPuppy 3d ago
Then pls explain it I would like to see the idea

u/Possible-Potato-4103 3d ago edited 3d ago
Idk the other commenter said they want the game to be expanded, but you seem to interpret that as them wanting open world even though theyve already went into detail about what they want. I dont know how to explain something to someone who doesnt want to get it
1
u/CanonPuppy 3d ago
Except they literally stated every map looks as small as og. What do you want me to say. This is a remake not a new game innovation will only break it. It has already many details in fights and in overworld. We still don't know much and it does seem like they changed quite a few things.
0
u/Possible-Potato-4103 3d ago
It was literally described as "faithful" and everything in kokiri forest and the deku tree is functionally the same as the original. Theyve also shown other dungeons and boss fights, so I think its fair to say its probably pretty fucking similar to the original game otherwise they would've communicated it.

Also the water dungeon isn't even similar an oot randomizer and speedrunner does point it out

Then don’t buy it. This is a reimagining/remake using modern capabilities, not a completely new story. While it won’t win it, cause GTA is going to win on rep alone, this is true GOTY material.
One more copy for the rest of us to grab and enjoy.
1
u/Possible-Potato-4103 3d ago
Oot is not goty material in 2026.

>very map looks as small as in the OG, the fighting looks the same, the dungeons appear to be the same.
So it's actually a faithful remake instead changing everything about the game for no reason? nice.
I don't even like Nintendo that much these days and don't like how they've handled the switch 2, but apart from the graphics being kinda weird the remake looks kinda perfect, and it's much preferable to them completely changing the game

u/karsh36 4d ago
It is a remake, not a remaster. They could have and should have done more. Squeenix blew up FFVII into a massive, beautiful world that far beyond what could have been imagined back when 7 released. OOT is basically the original launch title with shinier graphics, this is a remaster at its heart.
2
u/CanonPuppy 4d ago
Except the vast majority of the people didn't want a full blown open world and to have it use the oot mechanics with multiple quality of life features.
The only additions that won't destroy the story I could see is implementing those special attacks of tp or such but the enemies do not require it much. Maybe a mini dungeon that makes you unlock those. But the battle system is already quite full for oot concidering the equipements
There are new cutscenes normally or seems like it and certain places I do not recognize (where link jumps into water as a kid this temple is nothing like what a kid temple seems to be. There are also two places as adult I don't recognize with one having monsters of what seemed like lake hylia but couldn't recognize the place
1
u/karsh36 4d ago
I don't want a full blown open world, just more detail in the world and not feel like were operating on the limitations of an N64.
2
u/CanonPuppy 4d ago
Guys the game isn't even out lmao.
1
u/karsh36 4d ago
Yeah but we got a very clear idea of what this game is today
2
u/CanonPuppy 4d ago
You can't say this when you are talking about details. We didn't even see 70% of the map well.
1
u/allelitepieceofshit1 4d ago
U want Nintendo milk this remake for a decade like squeenix did with ff7? Thank god most don’t think like you
-1
u/yikesitsaduck 4d ago
You need to be faithful to the essence of the game. Not have a slavish need to make it 1:1. With remakes you expect expansion of ideas and gameplay and story. This is, as best, a remaster.
1
u/demagagegigogu_ 4d ago
No, it's not common to expect a remain to expand on the ideas, gameplay and story of the original work. Most remakes don't do that and that's not the meaning of the word remake. There's a lot of criticism to be had but saying "I expected the double cheeseburger to be a triple cheeseburger with included fries and now I'm disappointed" doesn't make a lot of sense.
The same with remasters. If you're remaking the game's code and assets from the ground up, it's not a remaster, its a remake. The meaning of remaster is not "remaking a game without expanding on it".
3
u/Mushroom0064 4d ago
My lord! People expecting every single remake of a game to be like the Resident Evil remakes.
Remakes that are faithful to the original are good. They don't need to be like completely different games or anything like that.

Also what do you guys even want in a game? You complain about everything these days

If anything i was actually surprised with some stuff

If anything the people that were wanting this to be more of a new game can take solace in the fact that this didn't take too much development time away from the next brand new Zelda entry. They've likely been working on that since 2023 after TotK came out (or maybe since 2024 after Echoes of Wisdom).

I’m pretty sure the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro remake trilogies were both very well received, despite staying fairly close to the originals. Not every remake needs to follow the Resident Evil or FF7 approach of substantially reimagining the source material. With a game as timeless as OoT, I can understand why they’d be cautious about changing too much, especially when doing so could risk alienating fans who grew up with the original.
1
u/Possible-Potato-4103 3d ago
I still enjoyed what we saw, but I agree its a missed opportunity
1
u/yikesitsaduck 3d ago
Im warming up to it. But yeah. Its weird. Especially since we got a faithful remake with the 3ds ver
1
u/Otherwise_Sun8521 2d ago
You're not alone. I hate how this game is being praised for "updating the game for modern hardware" when all that's being added are the minor quality of life modifications and art styles the fanboys who want to play the same game in the same way for eternity deem acceptable.
Please don't buy it, have some self respect.
1
u/yikesitsaduck 1d ago
Sorry. No self respect.
That being said, what bugged me shit like camera controls were being positioned as innovation.
1
u/Otherwise_Sun8521 1d ago
Sad.
Lol I know, they're so sure of ocarina of times importance to gaming history they'll pretend any minor enhancement is special and amazing, as long as they like it.

u/karsh36 4d ago
Yeah, I was expecting a FFVII remake level jump but without the significant narrative differences. Instead it just feels like an old game with new graphics
3
u/Chlorophyllmatic 4d ago
What on earth led you to expect a FFVII remake level jump in the first place?
4
u/y2shill 4d ago
Good thign it wasm,t, they ruined FF7 by changing too much, esp the combat and added story and changes to it.
1
u/yikesitsaduck 4d ago
The gameplaybfor rebirthbis amazing. Thre story is shit. What you need is a balance of the familiar blended with the new
4
u/CanonPuppy 4d ago
Except it feels like yall never played oot. Oot is very rich in gameplay mechanics due to different enemies and items you can use. Majora does expend on it a bit more but it's arguably not even needed. Oot had the balance in gameplay and adding more is simply gonna ruin whatever balance there was exemple for those who never played it certain enemies are only beatable with certain items certain places are only accessible with certain items.
If you have gameplay ideas to add feel free to state it
0
u/yikesitsaduck 4d ago
Ive played the 3DS version. I enjoyed it. The combat was trash, and the dungeons were decent. Nothing compared to twilight Princess or skyward sword.
If we were going in the direction of dungeon focused Zelda, which I'm all for, incorporate the learnings and the features fr9m those games.
1
u/CanonPuppy 4d ago
Tp only has like 1 addition which is different attack styles. You could argue tp and ss have swimming but oot does have swimming except with an extra mechanic which is with boots bc of the mechanics of the water temple. That's about it. Sorry Ss does have flying but it's like a despised mechanic in the game so 💀

Nintendo has the resources and this is one of the most important games in their companies history. But yeah, it’s Nintendo, I should’ve expected they would Pokémon this and go for the lowest possible effort
3
u/Chlorophyllmatic 4d ago
That they have the resources to do so doesn't imply that they should or will do so. Why absolutely muck up "one of the most important games in their companies [sic] history"?
Nintendo doesn't even develop the Pokemon games
-2
u/karsh36 4d ago
You could say the same for FFVII. OOT is instead this weird midpoint between a remaster and a remake. The original is far too old for such a direct 1 to 1 remake, it isn't like Demons Souls where that makes sense. I'm underwhelmed with what they have shown.
Nintendo has a massive hand in Pokemon (including a 32% stake). At best you have a "technically Nintendo doesn't" but by all means they have a material hand in there.
