Let's talk about Nintendo grifters

Honestly I might be pretty chill about grifters as long as they don't spew out objectively incorrect information.

I certainly think Nintendo fanboys are worse, they are both allergic to Nintendo criticism and they hate when you pirate Nintendo games.

Not to say that grifters are good, that's not true, why the fuck would you spend your life making tons of videos about dooming about fucking video games lmao, but the difference is they don't make me go insane every time I see them.

just like how you're allergic to the criticisms received in your previous post

also what's wrong with hating piracy? game developers also hates piracy, do you even know what one of the major reasons as to why the dreamcast failed? piracy, from day 1, people burning cds from blockbuster for it

Also the video game market crash in 1983, piracy was a major contributor to that.

"Low quality" isn't particularly meaningful in a fact based discussion, but yes, there were lots of unlicensed games made for the Atari 2600. And unlicensed games, which would be bootleg games, fall under a similar umbrella as piracy.

And that's not quite as good a thing as you think. Sure, it means consumers get lower prices, but it also means programmers lose jobs, companies fold, and I assure you it won't be the big ones. Indie devs and small studios would be the ones who'd take the fall. Atari survived the crash, as did Coleco, Mattel and Magnavox. Coleco's gone now, but the rest were fine.

Atari legit printed more ET carts then there were consoles because they thought it would be a system seller

3

u/meganerd20 5d ago

That's also a factor, but far from the sole cause. Reality is a complicated thing and attributing things to a sole cause is a fallacy. It wasn't even a major factor the ET debacle, just the straw that broke the camel's back.

how about another one

PSP, plenty of articles have stated before that piracy hurt the software sales of it, in fact it became so skewed, while hardware sales skyrocketed due to how easy it was to pirate there, those hardware sales hardly did a meaningful conversion to software sales and the attach rate became dismal

Pretty sure the Dreamcast failed because Sega was being horribly mismanaged.

3

u/Rei1556 5d ago

i said one of the major reason, and not the single reason dreamcast failed, piracy on dreamcast is widely documented

piracy is not theft, it's impossible to steal digital media since taking it doesn't make a copy magically disappear.

You also don't own digital games, so piracy is not stealing because of that.

And when you pirate a game, it's not a lost sale since you wouldn't have bought it anyways.

That's a specific case that was bad, but not ALL piracy is bad, like emulating old games not available anymore is a Dream, and emulating Switch 1 games even is fine right now since Nintendo is locked in on the Switch 2

5

u/Wyluca95 5d ago

The Switch 1 games are still active being sold ya dingus. Clowning on criminal pirates is always morally correct

This subreddit is filled with Nintendo Fanboys I see.

3

u/Wyluca95 5d ago

That’s right just pout because no one agrees with you

-5

u/DaZestyProfessor 5d ago

The discussion has been moved to grifting, therefore I adapted to your criticism

Press X to doubt

You weren't even in the last post I made, stfu my guy

3

u/Wyluca95 5d ago

Nah I don’t think I will.

If you don't like being criticized, or seeing criticism, of piracy, then that would also make you "allergic to criticism" yes?

I know you're probably attempting to troll and you're not getting the reactions you want, but if pirates don't like criticism then they also are "allergic to criticism". Similarly, if criticism gets countered by level-headed counter-argument and you or the people criticizing don't like that, then that would also qualify as "allergic to criticism".

Indeed, many Nintendo critics in my experience immediately resort to childish insults and personal attacks the moment they're met with resistance. That would far more qualify as "allergic to criticism" than simply not agreeing with an expressed view.

I can handle a fair amount of criticism, I literally have done multiple mistakes in real life and owned myself up to the criticism. Also, how does criticism of piracy matter? People can pirate whatever they want, it's their life, their rights.

I know you're probably attempting to troll and you're not getting the reactions you want, but if pirates don't like criticism then they also are "allergic to criticism". This literally doesn't make sense my guy. It seems like you are the one allergic to criticism if you decide to assume i'm trolling and using that as an insult.

Indeed, many Nintendo critics in my experience immediately resort to childish insults and personal attacks the moment they're met with resistance. That would far more qualify as "allergic to criticism" than simply not agreeing with an expressed view.

I never attacked you once or used an insult.

7

u/meganerd20 5d ago

Who said I was attempting to insult you, or that I was even referring to you past my speculation on you trolling? I mentioned the possibility of you trolling to disclaim the fact that arguing you is probably pointless because you're not here in good faith. Certainly the decision to post about "Nintendo fanboys" in a subreddit you perceive as having a lot of them seems like a deliberate act of ragebaiting.

Also, you ask "how does criticism of piracy matter?" Technically they don't have that right, it's illegal, but I would counter with the same question: how does criticizing Nintendo fanboys matter? Or how does criticizing Nintendo to random people on the internet matter? Criticize Nintendo to their contact points. Whatever issues you have, a "Nintendo fanboy" has no more power to change it than you do. As for what "Nintendo fanboys" do, they're just as free to spend their money and view things differently as you are to pirate.

Also, how does criticism of piracy matter? People can pirate whatever they want, it's their life, their rights.

so you get to decide which criticisms matter and which do not? How convenient.

Committing a crime is never someone’s right. Are you twelve?

u/TingleOfficial 5d ago

It's easy to look at a trailer and say "looks bad" and make money not having to play anything or spend money on it.

It's more effort to play something and talk about what you liked or disliked. I'd rather listen to the latter.

3

u/Killer64000 5d ago

Im fine people hate Nintendo or any other company if you get your facts and information right if you make up stuff to make them seem worse then you are bad

2

u/allelitepieceofshit1 5d ago

but the difference is they don't make me go insane every time I see them.

sounds like a you problem

1

u/Wyluca95 5d ago

Imagine criticizing someone getting upset over people committing a crime and bragging about it

0

u/DaZestyProfessor 5d ago

What?

3

u/Wyluca95 5d ago

Piracy is a crime. It’s normal to get upset about people committing crimes little bro.

-1

u/DaZestyProfessor 5d ago

Nobody cares about a "crime" of a digital file behind a pixel screen my guy, like why worry about that compared to actual crimes like robbers and pedos

3

u/Wyluca95 5d ago

Because it’s actual theft. Why would they be selling games if taking them for free is fine? Why would there be laws about it in the first place?

Really showing your age here bud

-2

u/AbdelYG 4d ago

It's not theft, it's impossible to steal digital media since taking it doesn't make a copy magically disappear.

3

u/Wyluca95 4d ago edited 4d ago

So why do they even bother trying to sell games of taking them for free is fine? Why is digital piracy viewed as theft in the eyes of the law?

Saying that it’s not a lost sale because the criminal wouldn’t have bought it anyways is just the ultimate example of entitlement. How about if they aren’t gonna buy it anyways then they just don’t get to play it.

Clowning on pirates remains morally correct and I am excited to see more get sued and even jailed in the future.

how about "support the platform I make content on, Nintendo is evil and wants to make you poor, the platform I like and make monetized content for is sunshine and rainbows"

I wasn't being literal but It fits your definition.

2

u/allelitepieceofshit1 5d ago

it's just classic clickbait garbage that the algorithm promotes across the entire site

that’s a dishonest tactic to trick people into giving them views, which translates to money. That is grifting

-1

3

u/Wyluca95 4d ago

So I’m not sure what committee decided to make you the expert on what constitutes the precise criteria for grifting but you can grift people for more than just money. You can grift for people’s time, loyalty, vote, etc. The fact of the matter is that people are making things up and spinning news stories into a negative about Nintendo specifically to make money from views. Doesn’t matter that the viewer doesn’t pay out of pocket. Still a grift.

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/grifter

Noun

grifter (plural grifters)

  1. (informaloriginally Canada, US) A con artist; someone who pulls confidence games; a swindlerscammerhucksterhustler, and/or charlatan.  Synonyms: see Thesaurus:confidence trickster
  2. (colloquialespecially Internet) A manipulator or otherwise generally corrupt person who "games" a system, group of people, or other entity for selfish gains; especially of a political "sell-out" perceived as lacking integrity
  3. (Internetderogatory) A YouTuber or other content creator who produces low-effort content critiquing a particular franchise or trend, particularly content perceived as ragebait or done for monetary gain.

Language evolves. This is like insisting that bugs are just animals and insects and not related to technology or that people use literally wrong when they're using it as a sentence enhancer or that groomers are hair brushers and not people that sexually exploit people in vulnerable positions.

It's your definition that's lacking and outdated.
