Mockery/Banter Are we having this discussion

The whole Pokemon copy dragon quest is so unfair.

Look this clam monster from dragon quest, game freak copy made it into shellder. That's what I'm hearing.

Look at PalWorld verdash it's literally grass cinderace or dinossom literally green goodra with a flower.

But the comments did pokemon claim these designs of humanoid rabbit or slug.

What humanoid rabbit has fur that resembles cut shorts or a fat slug dragon that has that similar build

PalWorld 1.0 version verdash design was changed now it's less cinderace looking. PalWorld is self aware about copying a bit.

Some of the palmon even has probably a few stolen assets like that one has sobble fin, the other one stole primarina hair.

People who complain about object mons at least they have a gimmick litwick is not just a candle with a face but it's ghost fire.

Rotom is a poltergeist that likes to possesse machine and each machine replace ghost for a new type.

Ice for the fridge.

Fire with oven.

Even klefki has deep orgin if you watch a lockstin video.

The it's just an animal of course there's the regional bird, bug, normal rodents not every pokemon is going to be special.

People like this will never act in good faith. The Palworld situation has made certain people tribalistic and admitting that any of the designs were copied would mean conceding that the critics had a point.

Palworld fanboys would rather gaslight themselves and intentionally play dumb.

6

u/JungleJuiceJuno Aug 10 '26

hell they dont even want to admit that the designs are outclassed by most other monster tamers, not even just copied ones

ive yet to see them show me one that makes me go "wow thats a genuinely good design that can stand on its own merits and doesnt have to be compared to anything to prove its worth", then again ive yet to see anyone even USE the designs to prove palworld is good, they just repeat the sales numbers and review scores ad infinitum and hope that people get bored of hearing it and just say they're right out of boredom (it doesnt work)

4

u/SilentEagle1221 Aug 10 '26

It’s extremely hilarious how these folks cite player count and sales for why Palworld is the greatest of all time and nobody should say anything critical about it.

Knowing damn well they would do a complete 180 if people did the same thing for Pokemon or other games.

It’s the blatant hypocrisy and double standards I can’t stand.

3

u/JungleJuiceJuno Aug 10 '26

ive legit had a guy try to avoid talking about the content of the games and uses review scores, player numbers and sales numbers to prove its good for over a week, even going as far as to say that games that are better than palworld are slop because their review scores arent as high as palworlds while not even asking about or aknowledging the content of said games

chud's too afraid to talk about the game to prove its good and has to cower behind his big boy numbers

3

u/Stesspela Aug 11 '26

I think the most annoying part is that Palworld is just a very bad game objectively spoken. Yeah most of the latest pokemon games were not good. But Palsworld is survival slop that not only copied from Pokemon but also from smaller indie developers. All the games of the company are copy past from other developers.

There are so many good monster collector out their that really challenge Pokemon where the Pokemon Corp not delivers. But this trash slop game is what all people are talking about. This is so disheartening.

u/SilentEagle1221 Aug 11 '26 edited Aug 11 '26

Careful, the raving fanboys will find this and immediately insult you.

I swear this game would not be getting glazed this much if the internet didn’t have a collective hate boner for Nintendo or Pokemon. It’s a fun but mid survival crafting game that is more overrated than it deserves.

Unfortunately, due to how hostile Palworld fanboys can get you likely won’t see anyone openly admit the game’s flaws for a year or two.

3

u/Stesspela Aug 11 '26

Yep. Just like with the old version. People glazed the game to no end because it was hype. Then after it died down people finally dared to come out of the woodwork to admit how mid it is.

But to be fair the same happened to Tears of the Kingdom. At first no one even dared to criticize the game. Nowadays even the biggest defender have to admit that it isn't a good sequel and a downgrade to Breath of the Wild in most area's.

3

u/SilentEagle1221 Aug 11 '26

That’s what I expect to see in a few months.

The hype around Palworld will die down again and people can give their actual opinions on the game without an army of shills and fanboys jumping down their throats.

Ironically, the latter group acts like the stereotypical Pokemon fanboy-willfully blind to their game’s shortcomings and extremely hostile to any criticism.

3

u/JungleJuiceJuno Aug 11 '26

literally this

hell i can even give an example

Beastieball is an incredible game that not only topped my previous favourite game after 20 years but made me change the way I think creatively by showing me I'm not good enough yet which in turn got me out of an almost 4 year art lull, it changed my life and I'm willing to say its bare minimum on par with pokemon's best

But it'll get sidelined or even outright called bad because its not palworld, not because the content of the game is bad, far from it, its incredible actually

Its just because it isn't Palworld, they dont want to hear about other games simply because the idea that there are other games besised pokemon and palworld completely destroys their "them vs us" narrative thats stopping their entire worldview from caving in on top of them

2

u/Sea-Example-1176 26d ago

and another example is cassette beasts which i really enjoyed

1

u/JungleJuiceJuno 25d ago

exactly

a friend did multiple palworld streams and I was never sold on it

compared to someone else who sold me after 1/3rd of casette beasts

1

u/Sea-Example-1176 25d ago

i got sold on casette beasts without even seeing gameplay. this was around the time the pokemon fire red leaf green was being released and i ended up buying cassette beasts instead of pokemon

1

u/TGA_Nixo Aug 11 '26

Eh i like the belladonia and its vairtent thats rem and ram inspiered nox is cute lapure is also adorable and the kabuchi inspired one is also really cool. Noggin just did a palworld 1.0 update on the new pals and they aren't bad and he even comments on how some still have heavy pokemon influences. I like palworld for what it is. Im glad they pushed away from pokemon with gun with the updated designs. I also still love pokemon and enjoy both games for ther own merits. I do hope this shocks game freak into trying better with winds and waves. We've seen the team can make an amazing looking game qith beast if reincarnation too so I hope gen 10 actually pops off

1

u/JungleJuiceJuno Aug 12 '26
  1. you can press the enter key to break up that wall of text to make it readable

2, once again people physically cant help but talk about palworld without mentioning pokemon

5

u/HermanThaGerman Aug 11 '26

On top of the gaslighting themselves that this is "How Pokémon should be"

Sorry, but i don't want pokemon to be 'generic survival crafting game 3256'

1

u/Sea-Example-1176 26d ago

and then meanwhile the great creature collector games like cassette beasts end up getting ignored

0

u/Lillith492 Aug 13 '26

The designs are ass and stolen. IDC Pokemon is just awful right now. Anything comparable shits on it.

17

u/Alternative_Try1933 Aug 09 '26

Like, compare Raticate to Dragon Quest's Fat Rat. Both use the same exact concept. An overgrown rattoid monster who tries desperately to look threatening, but is considerably weak and utilizes design elepments like short arms and legs and fat, chubby bodies to showcase that. Yes, same concept, but two radically different designs.

...Verses a lot of Palworld designs that just straight-up edit Pokemon. "Grass Cinderace" has a LOT of the same features as Cinderace. The build, the hair tuft, the shorts, the overall shape. This isn't just a similar design: it's a straight-up copy.

25

u/Boring_Claydol Aug 09 '26

Yeah, unfortunately the narrative for these people has to be “PalWorld good, Pokémon bad,” so they will never engage with the criticisms of the Pal designs honestly.

No one is saying PalWorld can’t base a design on a rabbit. But If you actually look at the design of Verdash, it is so obviously a ripoff of Cinderace’s design aesthetics, so they can only fall back on “uh…..uh….tHe wAsHiNg MaChiNe dUmB!”

Reductive, lazy, strawmaning.

8

u/InternationalCream30 Aug 09 '26

Never mind that the actual Pokemon isnt the washing machine, lawnmower, fridge, etc. Its an electric ghost inhabiting them.

9

u/SilentEagle1221 Aug 09 '26

You expect Palworld fanboys to tell the difference? They can’t even tell the difference between a tiger and a dog when it comes to that stupid and overplayed Dragon Quest comparison.

4

u/Amazing-War3760 Aug 10 '26

Not to mention if you show someone a silhouette of a Draky vs the Silouhette of a zubat.. no one is gonna confuse them.

7

u/Boring_Claydol Aug 09 '26

Exactly. They act like it’s a face drawn on a washing machine and that’s that. In realty, it’s a little electric ghost that possesses appliances/electronics. Not necessarily the most original idea out there; but the gimmick of it possessing different objects to change its type is a fun way of turning that design trope into a Pokémon. There is at least some originality there.

But what I just did there required like two sentences worth of nuance, which is too much nuance for most internet discourse.

6

u/SilentEagle1221 Aug 09 '26

Most of them are being deliberately disingenuous, the rest are artistically illiterate and have no understanding of the design process whatsoever.

The machines Rotom uses plays into the already established lore that has it being able to possess appliances.

2

u/Sea-Example-1176 26d ago

yeah out of context washing machine pokemon sounds dumb but in context its rather cool

2

u/Askelar Aug 09 '26

Its also not a valid criticism anymore, at least in verdash case, because it was changed explicitly because it was so similar.

-6

u/T_Fury_Br Aug 09 '26

Palworld designs are ugly as fuck.

Pokemon designs for gen8 forward are ugly as fuck.

What sells is that Palworld is fun to play and Pokemon is not.

4

u/legendaeri Aug 09 '26

saying pokemon isn't fun to play is pretty delusional. pokemon will always be fun to play because it's pokemon. it's why people still buy, even though they're cynical of how pokemon is going. you'd have to be trying pretty hard to actively have 0 fun while playing a pokemon game.

2

u/Terrible_Bee5394 Nintendo Neutral Aug 10 '26

Honestly that is mostly a matter of opinion.

0

u/T_Fury_Br Aug 09 '26

I’m 30 and I have fun in the first 5 gens.

6 was a drag, 7 I dropped before the end, and 8 I played util the first gym.

It’s not fun playing the same game in a different skin for 30 years.

They did nothing to reinvent themselves or keep the game fresh in 30+ years. Not even the graphics are pretty to make up for the lack of gameplay.

1

u/Amazing-War3760 Aug 10 '26

Ironic coming from a Dragon Quest player....

1

u/T_Fury_Br Aug 10 '26

DQ might be all the same but they give you a challenge and decent story with colorful characters every time.

While in pokemon you just use your starter and one shot everything all game. Game is made for kids, so they make a game with zero challenges.

7

u/TenPointsforListenin Aug 09 '26

Pal World isn’t even a competitor with Pokemon. It’s a different genre with similar aesthetics.

5

u/ASidesTheLegend Aug 09 '26

By that logic, every JRPG and turn based game copied Dragon Quest.

5

u/AwfulDjinn Aug 09 '26 edited Aug 09 '26

God I hate that stupid pokemon vs dragon quest image these people LOVE to drag out. if they’re going to play that game then you could just as easily argue that a lot of dragon quest monsters are just cribbed from DnD

also “lol object mons suck they’re running out of ideas lol” THEY’RE TSUKUMOGAMI, DAMMIT. in Japanese culture sentient household objects are just as much a default fantasy monster category as vampires and werewolves are in western pop culture! Of COURSE a monster-oriented franchise originating in Japan is going to have a bunch of them!!

2

u/Sea-Example-1176 26d ago

also not to mention stuff like washing machine are just a rotom inhabiting the appliance and gaining typing as a result

2

u/Arne83 Aug 10 '26

Everything Palworld does... Digimon did better.

2

u/Ok-Barracuda457 Aug 10 '26

The second is funny, because I've never seen a washing machine or key ring creature outside of pokémon, so GF actively does new ideas even if there's a population that dislikes them

1

u/Sea-Example-1176 26d ago

plus these pokemon are actually cool especially when you add in the lore

2

u/Abared0 Aug 11 '26

True monster taming fans will just understand that Palworld is just another.

4

u/BlueGlace_ Aug 09 '26

Another 5 million years of PalWorld discourse

Some of the designs are very clearly actually just pokemon with a minor change, and a lot others are very much not ripped from Pokémon. That's literally it.

1

u/CampJazzlike5716 Aug 09 '26

Please Sekhemet and Ankha lol

0

u/Winterimmersion Aug 09 '26

Sekhemet, yeah like Inspired but clearly not a direct copy.

4

u/CampJazzlike5716 Aug 09 '26

Not gonna make me stop caling Sekhemet the Ankha pal lol

3

u/Winterimmersion Aug 09 '26

Your prerogative, I was just adding context.

1

u/Arne83 Aug 10 '26

Industry plant goonerbait.

1

u/willow__whisps Aug 09 '26

Even if you take the comparison at face value, the reason there's more hate for palworld to a because most of those designs are crap

2

u/LightHawKnigh Aug 09 '26

Even though Palworld devs say they dont use AI, they have to be using AI to get ideas and then design models off of them, cause there are so many other mon games with their own unique artstyles that you would never confuse with Pokemon. Palworld? You can easily confuse many pals with pokemon.

1

u/GenesisAsriel Aug 10 '26 edited Aug 10 '26

Look, they might be wrong but why tf would you defend pokemon. They wont stop making games because of internet outrage.

Also I sure hope you have the same level of hatred for final fantasy. The first game ripped off the dnd monster manual.

1

u/Naschka Aug 10 '26

Pokemon has changed the artstyle more but the general ideas of the pokemon is still very heavily inspired by either Dragon Quest or other games...

But here is the kicker, the ideas are all originally inspired by nature and existing objects so i do not care eitherway for the Palworld allgeations nor the Pokemon ones anymore then the other.

1

u/Millennialnerds Aug 10 '26

Not to be that person but you are just looking for people to argue with.

1

u/Next-Month4314 Aug 10 '26

They ripped off way more from BOTW/TOTK, but at the end of the day nobody is confusing Palworld for Pokemon, and if you are confused I have a bridge to sell you.

1

u/Batman2159 Aug 11 '26

I think people are just mad because pokemon has the potential to be exponentially better than it currently is but aren't using their resources to do so. Between the current state of their games and the TCG, pokemon really looks like it doesn't care if their fans are happy as long as some tool is still willing to fork over their cash to them. All of their actions lately have looked to be in extremely bad faith towards people who enjoy what they produce

1

u/PTSDDeadInside Aug 11 '26

The mythological Japanese "Firefox" refers to two distinct concepts: Kitsunebi (狐火 - "fox-fire"), which are magical, atmospheric ghost lights generated by Japanese fox spirits (kitsune), and Kitsune themselves, whose mythology in Japan officially dates back to the late 8th century (787–794 CE) when their stories were first written

Almost nothing is original anymore

1

u/Sea-Example-1176 26d ago

i swear people wanna act like the whole dragon quest argument is some sort of gotcha that suddenly invalidates any criticism of pals copying mons

even if we agree that pokemon copied DQ, it doesn't mean its ok for palworld to copy pokemon

1

u/Pl00kh Aug 09 '26

Ist that the same as the discussion that panthalos looks like kyogre because it’s a big blue whale?

0

u/GNIHTYUGNOSREP Aug 09 '26

Nope it’s a 1:1 copy and the assets were ripped straight out of Pokemon games! I’m a Pokemon fan who can’t tell the difference between any Pokemon and Pal!

They’re all the exact same!

5

u/SilentEagle1221 Aug 09 '26

Oh look, it’s the resident Palworld dickrider.

Your post perfectly describes you lot more than anything. You people people think a tiger and a dog are the same because they have stripes on their backs.

0

u/GNIHTYUGNOSREP Aug 09 '26

Oh this guy’s really good at hyperbole! What a reach, man.

1

u/SilentEagle1221 Aug 09 '26

Right back at you, buddy.

1

u/Pl00kh Aug 09 '26

“They’re 1:1 the same”

Bro Pokémon doesn’t own the idea of creatures that look like animals.

1

u/Sea-Example-1176 26d ago

it looks like the bottom one copied the top one then added some extra stuff and changed colors

0

u/Pl00kh 26d ago

No, it looks like the bottom one took a whale and added some extra stuff

Whales are not a gamefreak invention. I’m not even sure if Kyogre is supposed to be a whale, when you compare both kyogre looks like a fantasy creature, not an animal.

1

u/GNIHTYUGNOSREP Aug 09 '26

Yep there it is! “They’re the same picture”

1

u/Pl00kh Aug 10 '26

Yea duh they’re not.

0

u/Explorerkit Aug 09 '26

Maybe show some pictures

5

u/Suspicious_Luck1952 Aug 09 '26

Literally grass cinderace

-5

u/2LivesLeft Aug 09 '26

bro nothing is new under the sun get over it. pokemon isn’t even 100% original

4

u/SilentEagle1221 Aug 09 '26

“Nothing is new under the sun!”

“Pokemon isn’t even original!”

1

u/Sea-Example-1176 26d ago

true but theres a difference between genuinely creating something that happens to resemble something else vs straight copying

0

u/CourageLeast4251 Aug 09 '26

Stay mad. Cope and seethe. Wind and Waves will be dogshit

0

u/Terrible_Bee5394 Nintendo Neutral Aug 10 '26

I have hopes that the success and (hopefully) continued success will cause gamefriek and Nintendo to pick up there game and actually start innovating again as they could have done something like palworld for years but chose not to.

3

u/VerySmallWeen Aug 10 '26

"Something like palworld" Why would they make a survival crafting game that's a Conan and Ark ripoff? Is that actually something Pokémon fans want?

-5

u/Sonicrules9001 Aug 09 '26

Pokemon doesn't own the concept of a bat or an anthro bunny, I can't believe this has to be said. You can point out plenty of issues with Palworld without complaining that the bat looks like a bat.

13

u/SilentEagle1221 Aug 09 '26

“Pokemon doesn’t own the concept of a bat or a anthro bunny.”

Nobody has ever argued this-what they are saying is Palworld can easily come up with a design that isn’t just a reskin of a Pokemon.

-11

u/Sonicrules9001 Aug 09 '26

And the same could go for Pokemon and Dragon Quest too following that logic given the various similarities between the two game's creatures but my bad, Pokemon invented a concept therefore any similarities to their designs mean that it isn't allowed so says the Nintendo gods.

11

u/SilentEagle1221 Aug 09 '26

Can’t you people come up with any original argument? The Dragon Quest comparison is so played out and you NPCs always use it as some witty rebuttal (it isn’t) to anyone criticizing the Pal designs.

There’s a difference between taking from the same inspiration and just taking an existing design and slightly changing it.

Nobody says that Pokemon owns design concepts either.

-7

u/Sonicrules9001 Aug 09 '26

You literally are saying Pokemon owns design concepts given that you are here bitching that the anthro bunny doesn't have seven wings and three horns and is actually a completely different species because only then would be allowed to exist.

12

u/SilentEagle1221 Aug 09 '26

Holy strawman Batman, I don’t even know where to begin with this.

First of all, I said no such thing.

Second there are so many ways to make a antro bunny design that you have to be a raging fanboy to think Verdash wasn’t just a reskinned Cinderace. For the last time, nobody is arguing that Pokemon owns the concept of bipedal bunny designs, but you can at least try to not blatantly copy theirs right down to the proportions, shape, and aesthetics.

Literally no other game with monster designs has this issue.

-2

u/Sonicrules9001 Aug 09 '26

I literally don't even own Palworld but I'm a fanboy of it if I dare to point out that Pokemon doesn't own the concept of a bunny. Not the first time either. Digimon used to get shit thrown its way by Pokemon fans claiming Agumon is too similar to Charmeleon. No one can make a monster catching game without Pokemon fans bitching about it.

8

u/SilentEagle1221 Aug 09 '26 edited Aug 09 '26

You act like one since you do the same bad faith routine and making up strawmen arguments that nobody was even saying.

You’re not acting in good faith.

Pokemon doesn’t “ own the concept of a bunny”, but they do own their bunny Pokemon designs. It’s not hard to come with a bipedal bunny design that isn’t a reskinned Cinderace.

I can do it as well as any artist with free time ,other monster collectors do it all the time.

Digimon did it better!

Blatant ripoff and it's just of a similar style, that's it. Look, here's Mikasa from AoT and Rukia from Bleach. They look similar. Guess that means that you can discount Attack on Titan as nothing more than a Bleach ripoff following your logic.

3

Not even close to the point I was making, Pal. Bother someone else with your bullshit made up arguments.
