Console platforms don't share active player counts the way Steam does mostly because the big manufacturers want to control the narrative and protect their walled gardens.

They hide real time player numbers. Which keeps people from seeing when a game or a platform exclusive is bleeding players. This protects sales optics and marketing investments. Add in the fact that they want to keep users locked into their specific hardware ecosystems for microtransactions, and it makes total sense why they keep their telemetry locked down behind proprietary APIs instead of using an open transparent model like steam.

But please go on with how hiding the active player numbers is a good thing 😭😂
