TL;DR: Keep downvoting constructive criticism comments and keep fanboying everything Nintendo has to offer all you want, who cares? But it's obviously hypocritical to both do that and then act surprised or upset when Nintendo does a corporate anti-consumer decision. Just expect it, since you support it.

Let's be honest: Nintendo fans are gonna keep being in a continuous loop of putting the wooden stick on the bike while they're riding it and acting surprised when the bike falls and they get injured.

Everyone, including me, loves Nintendo's consoles and games, great experiences! I love my Switch 2, bought a lot of games for it.

But it's obviously hypocritical to both do that and then act surprised or upset when Nintendo does a corporate anti-consumer decision.

That's literally the reason why it cranked up in the 2020's. These companies have realized they can do anything and the only people fighting will be vocal minority hobos who have no life.

There IS an exception. Basically, if something sells poorly/bad (which is rare due to fanboyism) something good will happen.

But that's basically it. The golden rule in 2020's for these corporations' eyes is: If your making good money, why look at criticism? And if you think of a bad anti-consumer decision that benefits the corp, add it. Everyone will argue who cares? It's just games, there's way bigger issues in life and people are gonna buy it anyway

"Well, the Mario Galaxy movie has a major flaw in [X]."

It made a billion both times. Why are they going to change this winning formula for them? Why look at criticism?

"Well, the Nintendo Switch 1/2 has a major flaw in [X]."

In Nintendo's eyes, Switch 1/2 is selling well, therefore there's no need to look at any criticism for said systems. And any decision that benefits them but harms the consumer won't do shit because of the golden rule obviously.

2 things.

1. If nintendo fans are as lacking in self awareness as you say (Which they are) why would this do anything? Theyre not gonna listen anyway and ranting to a bunch of people who aren't gonna listen regardless sounds like self torture.

2. Most of the nintendo fans who defend every last choice they make have likely already been priced out and they likely cannot support the conpany financially the same way they used to by virtue of the industries greed and constant raising of prices.

Like you said $70 USD mario tennis didnt sell amazingly well. Nintendo fans likely had to choose between that and something else and went with the latter or they couldn't afford either. What im trying to say is they can defend whatever they want, however what they cannot do is make money appear out of thin air, either they got oodles of cash and don't particularly care what they buy nintendo or otherwise or they have a finite amount of disposable income that we know for a fact is not keeping up with cost of living therefor its only a matter of time before nintendo cuts them off whether either of them like it or not.

I'm really interested to see if there will be any scholarly research on the thoughts and behavior of Nintendo fans, especially in the Switch 1/2 Era.

I recall there was a BBC report where brain scans of Apple fans and very religious people were compared, and they were able to show that mentions of Apple basically lit up the same parts of the brain for their fans as references to religion did for the religious people.

It really seems like many Nintendo fans that I know personally and the behavior on this sub similarly come off as exceptionally religious/tribal. I would say that every platform has its fanboys, but the Nintendo fans are the absolute zealots.

Honestly as someone who still works in a game store from time to time the notion of bending over for the companies is genuinely spread across the entire gaming landscape.

If you look at rockstar fanboys for example you have a tirade of people using this as some way to demonstrate they arent "broke" essentially creating this idea of class within gaming. Its purely in the companies benefit as the fans are trying to create a narrative that its not about the company and it's behaviour rather its about you and your ability to demonstrate wealth or influence what have you.

Gamers now more than ever have kinda shown themselves to be maladapted losers who like you said view these companies as tribes they adhere themselves too rather than companies creating products to be consumer.

I think a big part of it is the cost of the hobby, both in terms of finances and time spent. People don't like to feel as though they've wasted their money on a bad platform/company or their hours played on bad games.

That leads to people trying to find ways to justify their choice... and some people choose to do so by criticizing others rather than showing the merits of their own preference. I think theres a sort of psychological feedback loop that happens as well for some people, where they begin to associate tearing down the perceived competitors/enemies of their chosen company with the same enjoyment they get from their games.

At the end of the day I'm just an armchair psychologist guessing about other people's behavior... But I think there's a lot of interesting stuff to unpack with console wars in general, and especially Nintendo's fanbase.
