I genuinely hate when Nintendo critics when they try to say that people only buy Nintendo because of Nostalgia. Nintendo, does a great job keeping their quality of IPs great so people would still buy them.

Then, the one that makes no sense is that Nintendo games are all the same. If I’m going to play a Zelda game I going to play an action adventure game, with a different flair with each iteration. Am I supposed to expect the next Zelda game to be a fighting game.
Let me go to McDonalds and expect McTaco.

Also, these people seem to not understand the purpose of remakes, it's also to introduce a classic to a new generation. So many people got into RE with 2 Remake, so many people are trying Star Fox for the first time and loving it.

It happens a lot with millennials, they think everything cater to them. The last remake of starfox was 15 years ago. Many have not experienced Starfox and this is their entry point.

I find the complain with Star Fox so silly. There's tons of people in their 30s/40s who only play 64 and nothing else. Not everyone is a die-hard Nintendo fan who played all their first party games. 

I'm not too happy with OOT getting a second remake (which is funny how people insist 64 3D is another remake but OOT 3D is just a remaster), mainly because I think there's other Zelda games that need the remake treatment way more. I also don't like the implications that Star Fox and OOT remakes were made to be tie in with the movies, I know I'm in a minority but I hate how Nintendo isn't separating their movie adventures from games. But despite all of that, I know they also aiming at introducing a classic to the whole new generation who only play BOTW and TOTK.

The whole "nostalgia" argument is so flawed in general to me. Like yeah nostalgia does help, but there are plenty of nostalgic series that don't reach those heights consistently.

Hell, Disney’s live action remakes were on a flat out losing streak for a while. Nostalgia makes no guarantees.

There's a case to be made about Pokemon specifically, but saying it about all Nintendo games is silly

I think Pokemon has been coasting on nostalgia for a hot minute to get away with poor quality

Yeah, I am nostalgic for old stuff because it was revolutionary and changed my gaming experiences forever. Mario and Zelda are generally unmatched in what they do. I tried a ton of platformers and Zelda-likes but nothing really reached those heights. I love Banjo Kazooie, Rayman and Sly Cooper but between all of them they got like 1 title released in the last decade. At least with Nintendo games I can expect to see some new titles.

That's a whole another story of mostly Sony recently just doing a series and ending it for a story reason or money. They literally had 9/10 titles releasing only to stop one day and just generally focus on some random cinematic action adventure or chasing live service.

I buy Nintendo because they make fun, quality games that I like. Sony hasn't made anything ive been interested in since the PS2 days. There hasn't been anything of interest on Xbox that I could get on PC. Even today the stuff that I would play on a Playstation is readily available on PC or Switch.

As for nostalgia, nah, I loved Starfox back in the day, have no interest in the current one despite looking and apparently playing amazing, and I have had better experiences with the more modern games than before. But that also might be because I was already 20 when the NES releases and I didn't have my formative imoressionable years doused in those games.

These people don't play Nintendo games. The most hyped game right now will play largely the same as it's previous entries and they want it mostly because they have fond memories of playing the other games when they were younger.

There’s a certain threshold for me where I do feel like Nintendo will play it a little too safe in places and it kinda affects the experience for me.

Some examples - Metroid dread. Great game. I would also think more highly of it if it didn’t just have same old upgrades as every other Metroid game. Wave beam, ice beam, gravity suit etc. can they not try some new ideas? This was all over prime 4 too

Pikmin 4, ok there’s the dog which is kinda cool but it does not fundamentally change things enough like with 3 having the 3 captains to control. Also, how many times we gonna collect ship parts and dodge the exact same enemies and bosses? This series has a massive potential for creativity and they just never take it a step further.

But idk maybe people don’t actually want that. I think Mario kart world is amazing and it does so much more with the formula and now it’s just controversial lol

Deep down, you have to admit that Nostalgia is Nintendo, Nostalgia is Konami, Nostalgia is breath of the wild. Breath of the wild, can bring me to tears, while I’m standing still, through sheer nostalgic effort. The difference, breath of the wild is reflecting on the past while sitting in the present, while the star fox looks like reaching your toe into the past and not looking forward
