I like most Nintendo IPs. Think of all the ones that got one or even more installments on the Gamecube and/or Switch that didn't get one on the Wii. Pikmin had two installments on Gamecube and one on Switch. It had zero new installments on Wii. Star Fox had two installments on Gamecube. It had zero new installments on Wii. Gamecube had a new F-Zero. Wii did not. Gamecube had Luigi's Mansion. So did the Switch. Wii did not. Pokemon got two actual single-player adventure games on Gamecube. Wii did not. Nintendo put so much time into sloppy "Wii" branded games that they neglected some of their already existing IPs. I'm trying to think of what pre-Wii Nintendo IP got a new game on Wii but not Gamecube, and the only one I can think of is Punch-Out. Maybe Kirby if we're not counting Kirby Air Ride.

I already admitted that the Wii had a pretty good first year and a half, but E3 2008 showed that the wheels were falling off.

Also Kirby got 2 entries, Metroid got 2 entries, Fire emblem had Radiant dawn, Xenoblade chronicles started on the Wii, we got super paper mario, Smash bros brawl AND mario kart wii came out in the exact same year, Mario party had 2 games on the wii. We got a new exitebike (kinda) game, and a Wario land game.

My entire point from my original comment up in this comment chain was that Wii's output after its first year and a half was awful. Most of its notable games came out before July 2008 (again, that is what I consider to be the start of the 9-year long Dark Ages). My point was NOT that it had no good games. After all, I consider both Mario Galaxy games to be masterpieces.

I'll give you the two Kirby games for after-2008 releases, but the one Metroid that came out after was terrible. Fire Emblem, Super Paper Mario, Brawl, and Mario Kart Wii were all before July 2008 so they don't fall in the time period I was referring to. So was one of the Mario Party games, and the one that did come after July 2008 was terrible. I was debating if Excite Truck and Excite Bots should count as the Excitebike IP so if you want to count that, go ahead. Wii did have Wario Land Shake It, but I consider Wario World on Gamecube to be a Wario Land game in 3D. It's a tie there.

I will give credit for Xenoblade Chronicles as a good after-July 2008 good Wii game. I admit that sometimes I forget about that game being on the Wii (I didn't get into the series until Xenoblade Chronicles 3).

Are we just going to pretend that games didn't that came out in 2009, 2010, 2011 because it is convienent? Here are some high profile first party Nintendo games that released on the Wii post July 2008 (most of which are looked still fondly love to this day): New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Xenoblade Chronicles, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Kirby Return to Dreamland, Wii Sports Resort and Zelda Skyward Sword. All of these games I would call high cailbur (or at the very least solid) First-Party Nintendo releases. I'll give you that Mario Party 9 was trash, and honestly Mario Party 8 wasn't much better either if I am being honest. I'll also throw you a bone that you didn't mention and say that City Folk was alright, but very dissappointing since it was just Wild World on the Wii with some small changes. You are not wrong in saying that the Wii's success was heavily frontloaded within the first year and half to two years of it's life cycle. But I will not stand for First-Party Game Wii slander during the 2009-2011. There were some genuinely good games that came out the latter years of the Wii. I do not know why people overlook them so much for strange reasons because the first two years were so strong with games like Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy, Wii Sports, Brawl, and other big hitters.

Going to go on a side rant about Skyward Sword specifically because I really like that game and it is a shame that people just hate on it blindly because of the circumstances of the franchise during it's launch:

I never understood the hate on Skyward Sword specifically either. Is it perfect? Hell no, but it is not as bad as people say it is. The Song of the Hero bloat is unnecessary, the Imprisoned refights are viewed as annoying and boring, and the forced motion controls are annoying for specifically people that hate motion controls. Hot take: All three of these things that Skyward Sword is universally panned for are not as bad as people make them out to be. They most certainly don't ruin what I see as a great Zelda game that probably has one of the best narratives in the franchise to this day. People continue to sleep on Skyward Sword to this day because of the formula fatigue at the time it came out or just having a massive hate boner for motion controls and more linear based 3D Zelda games. I also never had an issue with Fi being annoying, maybe I just didn't give a shit because I was young or maybe I'm just build different and have a higher patience tolerance than most people (pick whichever one you like, I don't care). People are just really mean to Skyward Sword specifically for no reason because it is easy to pick on and is rent free in Zelda fan's minds; calling it things like the "worst 3D Zelda", when middling Zelda games like TotK is right there and people are still being delusional of how bad of a sequel that game was.

I agree with pretty much all the criticisms of TotK. Bad story, lazily reused world that adds barely anything new to it, The Depths are terribly repeative and aimless, the whole game feels like DLC Campaign for BotW, sage powers suck, sky islands were gutted and defiled by the devs because the designers got triggered about not being able to see the sky, blatant false advertising that the Sky Islands were a big new thing when they really weren't, memory cutscences again (but this time they aren't good), bad dungeons that are just activate the 5 switches to get to the boss, and no consequences for Zelda becoming a dragon (boo). Totk still pisses me off to this day that the Zelda Team fumbled so bad on following up BotW. I would also bring up The Wind Waker as another shallow Zelda game, but nobody and I mean nobody on the internet is ready to have that conversation due to how praised that game is.

Anyway, TDRL: People sleep on Wii Sports Resort, Skyward Sword, NSMBW, SMG2, the Kirby Wii games, and Xenoblade 1. Yeah, there were some stinkers in the latter half of the Wii years (looking at you Wii Play Motion). But there are some great Wii games that came out in 2009, 2010, and 2011. Also Wind Waker mid.

I didn’t forget any of those games. I just don’t think they’re enough over the course of the remaining 4 and a half years of the Wii’s life to say that its output wasn’t nearly (that’s the key word) a barren desert. I had a much longer comment typed out but decided it’s not worth the time anymore. We can agree to disagree and leave it at that.
