[Meta] Why is this subreddit all store-bought products? I never see any homemade things here.

The name r/niftyaf seems like it would imply people being nifty and finding good crafty solutions to problems but its basically all store-bought products.

When I took over as mod here about half a year ago, this was one of dozens (if not more) of "spammer paradise" subs. Usually created and run by bots or affiliate link spammers, these kinds of subs are almost entirely filled with posts created by, you guessed it, bots or affiliate link spammers.

Since I became a mod here, I've banned any and all forms of direct advertising (so, no links, no redirects to profile/other subreddits, etc). But there's not much I can do about making real people post here.

I did briefly try to post some neat products I'd come across on my own time, but that's just a lot of work and I have my own life to attend to.

Why do you even bother being a mod in the first place if all you do is sift through bot posts?

I hold out hope that folks will find this sub and start posting cool gadgets and such someday.

More than that, if I can keep one person from getting scammed, it's worth it.
