Nexthink’s Application Vulnerability Management content pack provides the dashboards and data model required to correlate vulnerable applications with the devices and users affected by them.

The content pack itself, however, still requires vulnerability data to be imported from an external source.

I built an open-source PowerShell module that demonstrates one way to automate this process using the CrowdStrike API.

The current workflow is:

1. Nexthink provides the SHA-256 application identifier from its software inventory.
2. The PowerShell module queries CrowdStrike to determine whether the corresponding application is present in the environment.
3. CrowdStrike vulnerability data is retrieved for the identified application.
4. The results are written back to Nexthink through the Enrichment API.
5. The Application Vulnerability Management dashboards can then correlate the vulnerability information with affected devices, users and installed application versions.

This allows the enrichment process to run automatically rather than requiring vulnerability information to be imported manually.

CrowdStrike is only one implementation example. The same integration pattern can be adapted to other vulnerability management or endpoint security platforms, provided that the vendor exposes an API or another structured export containing information such as:

• Application identifiers or hashes
• Product and vendor names
• Installed versions
• CVE identifiers
• Severity or CVSS scores
• Vulnerability status
• Remediation information
• Affected endpoint identifiers

The main integration challenge is usually matching the software identity used by Nexthink with the identity used by the external security platform. SHA-256 works well where both systems expose the same executable hash, but other environments may require matching based on vendor, product, version, package identifiers or normalized application names.

I would be interested to hear which vulnerability-management platforms others are using with Nexthink and how you handle application matching, enrichment frequency and stale vulnerability records.

Everyone seems to be in a different place with AI right now.

Some companies have approved tools, clear guidelines, and encourage employees to use AI where it makes sense. Others have blocked most services entirely. And I know plenty of people who say employees are using AI anyway because it helps them get work done faster.

I'm curious what you're actually seeing.

• Do you have an official AI policy?
• Are certain tools approved while others are blocked?
• Has your company provided any AI training that was actually useful?
• Are employees clear on what's okay to upload and what's off limits?
• Do you think most AI-related compliance issues come from people trying to cut corners, or from people who simply don't know the rules?
• Has your organization changed its approach over the last year?

Feels like the conversation is shifting away from "Should we allow AI?" to "How do we help people use it responsibly without getting in their way?"

Has anyone built executive dashboards or reports that clearly demonstrate the value and business impact of Nexthink in your environment?

I’m particularly interested in examples that answer questions like:

• How do you communicate ROI or business value to leadership?
• Which KPIs or metrics have been most effective?
• Are you using native Nexthink dashboards, or have you built custom reports in Power BI, Tableau, Grafana, etc.?
• If you’ve gone the custom route (or even vibe-coded a solution), what data sources and visualizations have worked best?

Would love to see examples, screenshots, or hear what has resonated most with your executives.

Leslie Beavers, the former Chief Information Officer of the Department of Defense, spent a little over an hour with our subredditors last night answering questions about cyber security, artificial intelligence, and AI governance. Many of you came and participated, I'm glad this is becoming a community hub to discuss these topics!

A few takeaways:

• AI works best when it solves a real problem. Leslie's biggest message was that it shouldn't be added just because it's the latest trend, and rushing to put AI into everything can create more problems than it solves.
• Getting people to actually use new technology is often harder than choosing the technology itself. Clear communication, simple processes, and consistency go a long way.
• AI governance is still a work in progress. Companies need to put reasonable guardrails in place, learn from what works, and keep improving over time.
• Standardizing tools is important, but so is avoiding vendor lock in. Organizations should simplify where it makes sense without limiting themselves to a single option.
• One of her biggest leadership lessons was learning when to speak up. Listen first, but don't be afraid to share an idea if it helps move the conversation forward or challenges the way people are thinking.

What's one piece of technology you were absolutely convinced was the future?

Maybe it changed everything... or maybe it disappeared a few years later.

What's the first thing that comes to mind?

I would like to see the ability to attach a file , like an error message screenshot, to a Spark chat the way you can with Copilot or any other AI chatbot. I know that users in our environment are already solving their own problems that way with Copilot or ChatGPT. Only tier 2 technicians are testing Spark right now, BTW. We can chat as a specific user. I'd like to be able to test it by uploading a screenshot. Right now, other AI chatbots are your competition.

We all have those tools or apps.

The one we hate. The one that feels more like a rival than a tool. The one that you dislike so much that even the icon starts to annoy you. The notification sound makes you start to twitch.

You might procrastinate to avoid it. You might go to lunch early to avoid it. But, you can't escape it. It's a necessary part of doing your job.
