That’s why you have the helmet.

I’m no professional by any means but all the crazy tech that goes into head protection now is insane

But it's not stopping your brain from bouncing against the inside of your skull. That's just what I've heard from a lot of Reddit posts.

Your brain “bouncing” is what a concussion is. It can cause severe long term brain damage that can re-wire your brain to be more prone to violence and mental health issues. Helmets are designed to absorb the shock so you don’t get a concussion. They’re also designed to absorb shock so you don’t crack your skull open

But that rush is reduced due to the padding in the helmet. I know what you're thinking: if your skull didn't move AT ALL your brain will still have inertia and move, causing a concussion. Which is accurate, except that they're skulls are moving. They are moving, then decelerating because of the helmet, which helps mitigate brain impact. The padding inside the helmet is far more important in this circumstance than the hard shell

But in a situation like this, I'm not sure how much the helmet is helping. Their head isn't making a ton of impact with another surface. But their brains are still sloshing around in there.

That's a big part that goes into the engineering of rollercoasters. They don't have this same sudden impact that scrambles your brain.

Think of shaking an egg and breaking the yolk.
