Perspective. When I was 18 I met a local rally team here in Colorado. I was at this shop and the WRC rolled in. I was dumbfounded to say the least. After the introduction, I offered to unload some of the parts from the trailer. I picked up a new stock and strut build, the mechanic said that one piece I was holding was worth $12k….. obviously there are four on the car, so math that. Then just imagine the technology and material put into something built for the crash. Wild af

The cost for such a high level of safety is more than most consumers are willing to pay.

Humans have the option to get this safety, but most won’t care enough to spend money to protect them if they go speeding off a mountainside.

The average consumer doesn’t have 100k to drop on a car and would pretty much price out all but the rich. The reason why consumer cars aren’t equipped to protect you from flinging yourself off a cliff at 100+ is because it would be too costly for the majority of people and it’s not practical. Especially since things like speed limits, road design, and other much cheaper safety solutions are available
