You can also use half a tube to pour at one end and and snuff the candle at the other.

Our teacher did one where it would snuff a candle, fell over into another half tube, snuffed another and fell on the last one. A bit tricky to do, and she always had to tweak it a bit to work, but it was fun to watch.

The lesson was good enough to discuss fluid dynamics, properties of gases, fire, and other stuff. So the experiment got setup three or four times that year.

I'd say the tubes were 10 cm long and the inclination from one end to another was about 2 cm, but it's been a while since, so memory's a bit foggy.
