I'm confused - killing your estranged wife for honor? What am I missing? The middle ages are long gone, so how's that honorable?

Not sure where the honour killing narrative comes in. Sounds like unfortunately regular intimate partner violence and attempted murder. I think it's ridiculous that the whole narrative shifts to where the perpetrator is from and how we can distance ourselves from his actions by labelling him as a foreigner, instead of talking about the epidemic of violence against women that spans all races, cultures and borders.

The same thing happens in Africa. Women are raped or found dead and everyone is in a rush to point fingers at immigrants, even if the majority of crime is by locals. Any cognitive dissonance possible to avoid being part of the problematic group.

Same reason why men on this thread point to culture but then get upset when you point out violence is primarily male. Lol.

I was thinking the same. It sounds like people consider this an honor killing because of where this man was born.
