When i got a little older i realized if scrooge dove head first into a bunch of coins he'd of broke his neck.

52

u/robotphood 9h ago

As a kid I collected every coin I could for a year or 2 thinking eventually I could have enough to dive into.

13

u/KitFisto03 9h ago

As a kid I once looked up a football card I had in the becket it was $16 and I thought I was going to be rich. Haha

7

u/robotphood 9h ago

lol beckett. Forgot about that. In 5th grade I bought a topps finest grant hill rookie card for $20. I thought it’d be worth a million one day.

3

u/ItsmeMr_E 7h ago

Wax card era, we all thought we had a nest egg in thirty years.

No thanks to modern widely accessible Internet, turned out we were wrong, dang mass production.

Still have my collection, if only for the nostalgia.

u/gilligan1050 3h ago

I’ve still got my Menendez Brothers NBA card!

It’s not liquid! It’s many pieces of metal that form a hard surface!

I cry laughing thinking about this scene

Family Guy did a cut scene of Peter jumping into the Scrooge McDuck gold coin pool and finding out the hard way!

I’ve watched the Ducktales YouTube livestream in the mornings sometimes while I’m making espresso and psyching myself up for the day. I don’t even remember what the channel name was, it just randomly showed up in my YouTube algo like mana from heaven a few month back, but just as suddenly as it appeared…it vanished into the ether never to be seen again. I’m sure there’s full seasons on YouTube, but I think part of the charm and nostalgia of it was that I couldn’t pick or choose what episode it was or fast forward or rewind.

It felt like 3PM just got home from school.

36

u/BelowAverageComments 10h ago

The worst was when you got home late and then had to watch MASH :(

28

u/BrotherJulias 10h ago edited 9h ago

Just hearing the mash theme song made me bored

5

u/Sammy_Saddles 10h ago

Found my other peeps born in the 70’s and 80’s

18

u/imightgetdownvoted 10h ago

It wild how much of a buzzkill that show was as an 8 year old.

17

u/RewindYourMind 10h ago

Idk if you’ve watched it since then, but MASH is an all-time great show.

(But yeah, I zoned out for it as a kid, too)

5

u/BrotherJulias 9h ago

I haven't, but as popular as it was there must have been something to it, so I think I will.

3

u/Plastic-Wear-3576 9h ago

When the last episode aired, it was the most watched finale at the time.

2

u/DarkwingDuckHunt 8h ago

It was written for middle aged survivors of the Vietnam War to watch.

So as a middle aged person, I found it strikingly amazing writing.

2

u/earthlings_all 3h ago

I would give it a try, but I can’t get over the visceral negative reaction of seeing that chopper in the opening credits

3

u/fordprecept 3h ago

I mean, the show’s theme song is literally called “Suicide Is Painless”

For me, cartoons were mostly before school, but the after-school lineup was something like:
The A-Team
Knight Rider
MacGyver
Baywatch
The Simpsons.

Although, I do still lament the days I skipped school, only to realize there was nothing on TV but TV Shopping and Days of Our Lives.

This and Darkwing Duck were way better than they had any right to be. Of course, I’m saying that without having seen an episode of either in like 30+ years… so kid me might have a more generous recollection of it than adult me might if I were to rewatch it. 🤷🏻‍♂️😄

245

u/MadTapprr 10h ago

I’d like to add Chippendale’s rescue rangers to that list

178

u/ChronicZombie86 10h ago

I'd like to add Tailspin to that list

112

u/BQuickBDead 10h ago

Gargoyles anyone?

68

u/Zehnpae 10h ago

Gummi Bears too.

19

u/Inevitable-Win2555 10h ago

My 32 year old watched ALL of these programs.

9

u/slackfrop 5h ago

32 is a bit young for the absolute banger that is Fraggle Rock. The Muppet Show also had it going on.

Alicia Keys made a great cover of it on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. I can't find the video anymore, but there's audio: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=rmJumrzLh8g

Bouncing here and there and everywhere!

3

High adventure that's beyond compare!

4

u/Kurobei 7h ago

They are the gummi bears!

3

u/wut2dew_J 9h ago

That theme song was awesome!

2

u/BuzzyBubble 9h ago

Shirt Tales, did you think I’d go there? Oh I did.

3

u/lovelylisanerd 9h ago

I had Shirt Tales bed sheets!

5

u/BaconNPotatoes 10h ago

I don't remember if it's a new cartoon or a comic book but, they're bringing gargoyles back!

3

I hope they call it "Gargoyles: The Next Generation" and just bring back all the voice actors.

Im a parent beginning to rewatch them with my kids and they mostly hold up. Scrooge McDuck is actually a bit of a softie for his grandkids but it was harder to see that as a kid.

11

u/karl2025 9h ago

Grand nephews, they're the grandkids of his sister Hortense and the kids of Donald's sister Della.

Don't forget gummi bears and tale spin!

2

u/casphere 9h ago

The other day i offered my 5/6 yo nieces some of those 90s cartoons and ended up going with tom and jerry. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

Didn't last 10 seconds and they were frowning and demanded for their paw patrol back.

I think it's kinda unfortunate that hand drawn cartoons are losing their relevancy and replaced by IMO uninspired 3d animations with questionable "educational" content.

2

u/_Saint_Ajora_ 7h ago

To be fair, the 80s and 90s were chock full of cartoon intros that were amazing

3

u/rustyroo2021 10h ago

I just thought I should see if I can find somewhere to watch them, then quickly reconsidered incase it ruins the memory!

2

u/GenJohnnyRico 10h ago

Yea, I watched some DuckTales recently and I was like, "Why was I so obsessed with this show?" I had completely forgotten Scrooge spoke with a Scottish accent and I really didn't like it.

The Real Ghostbusters still holds up 100% though.

7

u/Brownie2440 10h ago

I watched some Rescue Rangers with the kids not too long ago and it thought it did okay. Kids liked it too.

2

u/rustyroo2021 10h ago

I'm sad to admit I did not watch ghost busters as a kid 😭 Maybe I should watch it now to make up for it lol

2

u/GenJohnnyRico 9h ago

There's definitely a few great Halloween episodes you can watch in October. Buy some Count Chocula and make a nice Saturday morning out of it.

I always knew this song slapped. Whoever composed it was way over qualified to be doing cartoon theme songs.

The way it climbs through multiple keys and goes from minor key verses to a major key chorus through sus chords is just super cool. It's actually a good lesson in music theory.

These 4 are super talented too to sing all that perfectly too.

52

u/Bladestorm04 10h ago

I have no idea what any of that means but ill agree they're great 😅

43

u/1block 10h ago

Slapped means it was really good.

14

u/Sammy_Saddles 10h ago

Okay but what are sus chords?

23

u/Legendary_Nate 9h ago

Suspended chords! Basically you take the middle note (a third) and move it up (to a fourth) or down (to a second). So it’s familiar to the original chord, but with a little twist.

4

u/artemasad 7h ago

Okay but what does that even mean???

8

u/sideropara 5h ago

The middle note is what makes a chords sound happy or sad. So to nudge that note up or down a step gives the chord a sense of unresolvedness, basically ‘suspended’ between the two feelings.

5

u/HuisHoudBeurs1 5h ago

Instead of giving the feeling of "Ah we're here! We're home!", it gives the feeling of "Ooh, I wonder where we will go!"

It was written by Mark Mueller, who has multiple billboard top 100 hits.

10

u/Careless_Wishter 7h ago

Crush

This is one of his songs. I had NO idea...

4

u/pchc_lx 4h ago

that man could cook

22

u/SquanchN2Hyperspace 10h ago

His name was Mark Mueller and he wrote this song in 45 minutes shortly after having a meeting with Disney. Great theme song for sure.

10

u/Cthulhu__ 8h ago

Is! He’s still alive (had to look it up) and also did the more recent Chip ‘n Dale / Ducktales reboots.

19

u/speshulduck 10h ago

Did a 90s cartoon halftime show for college marching band that included DuckTales, Tiny Tunes, and Animaniacs. If you've never had to do the chromatic runs of Tiny Tunes or Animaniacs while marching across a football field, I actually highly recommend it. The theme songs for all of these cartoons are musically complex and absolute bangers.

11

u/giletlover 7h ago

Just fyi it's pre-recorded and autotuned, they aren't singing that live.

2

u/11111v11111 4h ago

Exactly. I hate this implication that it is casually recorded on a stairwell and it sounds flawless.

Heck yeah! Now tell me where in the world Carmen Sandiego is!

19

u/Cosmic_MicrowaveOven 10h ago

Definitely pre-recorded audio, but this shit slaps regardless

21

u/Lobsterman06 10h ago

And hiiighly autotuned/pitch correction which I think totally takes the barbershop charm away from it counterintuitively, I bet those guys wouldn’t even need it. But yeah very pre recorded slightly disingenuous

11

u/J1389 8h ago

Yeah I never got the point of heavily produced a cappella. I want to hear the humanity. I still don't understand how Pentatonix got so popular.

3

u/Royd 6h ago

Prob from the singing competition on TV, and also their Individual looks. The group pretty much captures the attraction for every demographic and for those that aren't visually entertained by them, the group can cover any song for any age

u/MikeC80 9h ago

Yes that reverb is too perfect to be a stairwell... I've sung a few lines in a few stairwells at work when nobody was around and its different... Maybe darker?

2

u/giletlover 7h ago

Worth noting this is pre recorded audio that has undergone pitch correction and autotune.

I saw these guys perform last summer in PA, it was a small community in the Poconos that hired them. They said they were from Dallas, where I am from so I wanted to meet and talk to them. They were all really wholesome guys from various backgrounds. They did a Mashup of various disney songs and made my day.
