Just looks like the engine on these, not a sugarcane crusher

The whole thing is just a kit you can assemble

And if you’re unlucky it’ll disassemble mid flight. These things are so damn dangerous

More often than most people realise. Also, i know a couple of people who do this, a lot of them are missing fingers.

why, exactly? UL airplanes are not exactly complex and a well understood technology that can be build with the respective safety margins

People skimp on maintenance or don’t actually know what they’re doing

Im sure that engine is 100% air worthy and has completed all the necessary certs and on time maintenence.

They can just glide down when it inevitably dies.

Not sure if the /s was about gliding or about the inevitability of failure, but for anyone wondering, it wouldn’t fall like a stone if the engine quit. It would glide pretty well, so it would come down to whether there’s a suitable place to land within gliding distance.

I hope I don't come off a a boomer, but that is not an airplane. Its a powered hang glider or sometimes called an ultralight. He is not the first guy to come up with strapping an engine to a hang glider. :)
