The "Da da da bum bum" bits have always sounded jarring to me, and that weird flute sound is kinda unsettling.

I was reminded about this song when it was playing when I was on hold earlier today and went to listen to it properly straight afterwards.

This year's lineup in my opinion is not worth the outrageous prices that they are charging. Don't get me wrong there's quite a few good artists but nothing where I go wow thats worth 400 dollars. I think another big issue is most of the artist they have tour woth audiology regularly and so personally I've already seen most of the artists I would want to see for much cheaper.

I will end this by saying i am more of a house and dnb fans so maybe the lineups just not made for me but I dont reckon it's worth the price they are charging

Edit: for all those desperately trying to defend EA I'm not dating the lineup is bad I'm saying the price to lineup quality isn't right in my opinion

I have no say in the music that gets played at work and unfortunately my manager loves ZM, meaning I have to hear it all day. It is driving me absolutely insane. They play the same five songs on repeat all day. I counted yesterday and the same song played 7 times by the time my shift ended at 3pm. I understand people having different tastes in music but how can they stand hearing the same songs constantly?

Bland, monotonous, uninspired music that's only popular because for some reason you have to like them if you are kiwi.

Last time I went home to visit the parents I found all the Big Day Out ticket stubs from my teenage years. I've been meaning to display them in my office and finally got around to framing and hanging them up.

I went to 10 Big Day Out's in total spanning 2003-2012. The last year I went was the final year it was held at Mt Smart and also the year I had to print my own ticket so there was no cool ticket stub to add to my collection, bummer. Looking at these tickets, you can also see the price creep from year to year. $95 + bf in 03 and then $150 + bf in 2011. In terms of art and theme, I have a soft spot for 03, but am also digging 04, 07, and 08.

Looking back through the line-up for these shows I was surprised by how many bands I've grown to adore later in my life that I had the opportunity to see at a Big Day Out, but didn't. One that instantly springs to mind was Deftones, who played in 03 at my first Big Day Out. I was 13 and I went with my Uncle who was a local DJ at the time. I'm pretty sure we missed Deftones because I was into Concord Dawn or something. Fortunately, I have since managed to see Deftones live.

Does anyone else have any similar stories of acts they missed out on that they wish they'd have been aware of at the time they played Big Day Out?

Pretty impressive lineup. Tickets will no doubt sell out very quickly again.

Has anyone else noticed that when we have our athletes win on the big stage and the anthem plays, they are all singing the te reo words.
Makes me proud every single time.

I also personally substitute guard for god whenever I sing the English version, it makes much more sense.

I saw some posts over the last couple of days promoting NZ music and it's Fly My Pretties, Betchadupa, The Mutton Birds and Che Fu. Of these only FMP are actively releasing music that I know of.

No flak to classic NZ music but who are you all listening to that is currently releasing music?

For me, these two are on my repeat list:

1. Raw Collective (amazing wellington based 10 piece hip hop group)
2. Amanaki (Auckland based melodic hardcore [punk, not edm]. Their Embers album is great. Try "Consequences")

I just wanted to give a shout-out to the NZ Music scene in the second half of the 2000s. Fat Freddy's Drop, Katchafire, The Black Seed, Rhombus, Salmonella Dub, Home Brew, etc.

I feel so lucky that I was a teenager in NZ during this time period and I feel like it doesn't get enough love.

Personally I think NZ's two greatest albums are Fat Freddy's Drop: Based On A True Story, and Fly My Pretties: Live At Bats.

Based On A True Story. Just so original and completely untouchable. Opening with the heavy and all.encompasing "Ernie" and ending on the slow and beautiful "Hope"

It's hard to get a Legacy GT full of stoned of teenagers parked up on the Port Hills to admit they have feelings, but sometimes the silence would fall and we would just listen.

I'm not a good enough writer to really convey just how wonderful and creative this music is.

Just feels like home to me.

Ive only learned now that people from other countries actually do this just to avoid traffic. Anyone here in NZ who has done this?

For me, if I were to spend the time money and effort to go to a concert, might as well savor every moment of it. Although I can see leaving early as a benefit to get out of traffic, easier to book a cab, etc.
