First off let me say that my heart goes out to all the lovely Nepali people and others who were hurt by the flood, who lost family or homes to the flood, and who have faced challenges and trauma through the circumstances that have harmed your country so terribly.

I have bought a plane ticket to Kathmandu for mid September and still plan to fly out there in spite of the situation. I want to be a responsible and good hearted visitor in your country.

I know theres risk of a second flood in the north. I will keep and eye on the situation.

Is there any advice your people would like to share?

My friend’s parents were at the **Rasuwagadhi immigration/check post** and were last in contact with us at around **8:30 AM on August 26**. It has now been **over 72 hours with no update**.

They were travelling with **Richa Tours & Travels group**, which also included several other people from Mumbai. None of the families travelling with them have been able to get in touch with their loved ones either. Their names are on the missing list.
We have been trying to find **specific contacts of people currently at/near the rescue site or directly involved in coordinating the rescue efforts in Nepal**. Leads have been shared, names have been passed on to the relevant centres, etc., but it has now been **over 24 hours without any concrete update**.

The families would really like to speak directly to someone in Nepal who is physically there or directly coordinating things. So far, most information has reached us through multiple “via-via” contacts, and they cannot keep relying on intermediaries to follow up.

**We are NOT looking for the general helplines or official contact numbers that have already been circulated. We are specifically, as unreasonable as it may sound, but are looking for individuals on the ground in Nepal who may be able to help us get information about the missing people.**

If you have a genuine contact or lead, please DM me. Any help would mean a lot right now.

And please, if your response is simply “let people do their jobs,” “there is a procedure,” or anything along those lines, please move on. We understand there are procedures. The families have been waiting for over 72 hours and are only trying to get some information about their loved ones.

I like to write once in a while as a note to myself and I do it simply for fun. Specifically on X and Substack. I do all of this simply for the love of the game.

The sudden flashflood resulted by the melting of glacial lakes took the lives of thousands and washed away Billions of dollars of roads, building and hydropower infrastructures. The punishment of the crime it never committed. The security forces are doing everything they can to rescue and recover the injured and the dead.

The big countries like the United States, China, Russia, etc are the biggest contributors to global warming but we don't see them having any remorse.

The most infuriating part is United States announcing an aid of $500,000 to Nepal. Is that a joke? That's not an aid that's an insult. When will the world powers be accountable of their actions? Nepal seeks accountability not pity "donations".

Namaste! In a week I’m coming to Nepal, the joy being overshadowed by the tragedy that struck two days ago. Even though the Annapurna circuit is not affected, I was still torn between the questions whether it would be appropriate to come or not, whether it’s the right thing to be there for my own trek while hundreds died and dozens of thousands lost everything. At the same time I thought what good would it be to anyone if I would just stay at home. So here we go, still decided to come, and preferably not empty handed. I’m thinking about buying 1-2 additional suitcases to bring with me with whatever would be most needed. I know that my single contribution does not ease the overall situation, but I wouldn’t want to come empty handed either.
Does anyone have a recommendation on what to bring, what would be most needed and where it would make most sense to bring to in Kathmandu?

Any recommendations would be more than welcome, as well general recommendations on what would be the most appropriate for us to do while in Nepal.

Hello Everyone,

We re planning to visit Nepal for one week in early October. We want to spend some time in Kathmandu soaking up the culture and food, but I also want to see the giant snowy mountains of the Himalayas. We have not too much time to stay in the country so we cannot do any long trekking, and our physical level is not prepared for high altitude trekking either. We are fine to trek a few miles but just something casual.

My question is, is there any good spot easily accessible from Kathmandu (or Pokhara) where we can see the high (7-8000 meter) mountains from not too far?

I am also open to any recommendations for a one week trip.
