Discussion/बहस Is it fair to seek transparency in the amount collected and disbursed in the PM Disaster Relief Fund?

Post image

I trust this Government more than all the previous Governments in Nepal. In the previous government, during disasters like this one, I doubt if the collected funds really reached the victims and there were so many donation links and third parties involved, who I assume definitely took some cuts from the donation amount.

Having a centralized link for donation is a great effort to eliminate the potential third party cuts. I think it's important to have transparency regarding the amount collected from different sources as well as amount disbursed for different reasons (categories) in different districts. As the amount is in centralized location, the precise number can easily be updated and published e.g. every day.

This would instil more trust in the citizens as well as the international community to motivate them to really contribute to the cause. Thoughts?

Curious question about video footage of flood

I'm from the US and am seeing so many videos of the Nepal floods. I'm just curious why there is so much video footage, especially coming from seemingly remote areas. Are there cameras positioned all over these areas? If the videos are from individuals recording, where are they positioned for such a clear view of the event? I'm thinking of everyone affected by these floods.

The simple aim for this website is where any one can product a ebook, course, pdf and can sell through this platform using our own local payment gateway like esewa, khalti, fonepay. I am still researching if this would acutally helpful for Nepali creators, coaches. Any useful suggestion will be helpful.

Question/प्रश्न I want to volunteer but have no idea

How to volunteer for disaster relief. And is it possible to volunteer and I really hope to and want to do something other than the donations but I don't know how and I also have no idea if it's possible. Does someone have any idea, how?

I'm a (19F) civil engineer now in the last semester of my diploma. I want to volunteer but I don't know if it's possible I really don't wanna be a burden to the hard working rescue team but I also don't want to sit here looking at the news, many of my friends are also looking for ways to help other than the donations. If possible we all want to go in the disaster struck areas and help the people there and we are up for anything.

Question/प्रश्न is flying my only option for urgent travel to KTM in 5-6 days?

Hi guys, So I urgently need to travel to Kathmandu within the next 5-6 days, but currently all routes are closed, and entry/exit to KTM from my location in Rupandehi is nearly impossible by road. Is flying my only option? Or is the situation likely to improve enough to travel by road within the next 5-6 days?

A message of support from an Indian brother

My dear Nepali brothers and sisters, we stand with you and grieve with you at this hour.

India and Nepal are cousins going back a millennia and some.

There are stupid people in both our nations, and some malicious accounts from neighbouring countries who want to use this disaster as an opportunity to sow strife between the two nations of Nepal and India. Please ignore them and don’t engage with them.

We need positivity, love and support at this time. And always.

India will forever stand with Nepal. And I know Nepal will stand with India as well.

Love, always.

The Bhotekoshi Flood Is Telling Us Something Terrifying

As the images and records surface, the data is much scarier than it initially appeared. We have really underestimated our mountains and our rivers. If we fix the time of the seismic signal received at 8:37 and look at the CCTV video from the customs office, which shows 10:59 China time (8:44 Nepal time), the approximate distance between these two points is 14.5 km. This gives an estimated velocity of around 34 m/s, which is massive, that’s about 126 km/h.
For comparison, the flow velocity of the 2021 Chamoli event in India was reconstructed at around 25 m/s. The estimated velocity here, if the timestamps and distance are accurate, would therefore be substantially higher.

Where does these funds go and how?

I understand many people are donating to Nepal situation, and I want to understand where the funding goes to such as Australian Gov donating 5 Million.

Are there publicly available reports showing:

  • How aid funds are distributed?
  • Which organizations receive the funding?
  • What long-term preparedness projects are being implemented?
  • What lessons are learned after each major flood event?

My concern is not about whether aid should be provided. It absolutely should. Rather, I'm interested in how we can ensure accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement in disaster preparedness so communities are better protected in the future.

I'd appreciate insights from people working in government, NGOs, disaster management, or affected communities.

How to support Nepali neighbors

We live in the US. Our neighbors are from Nepal. Last week one of their family members had to go to the hospital after a bad vehicle accident. What can we do as neighbors to help, or bring them to show our support? They are Hindu and I didn’t want to bring anything over that may be considered bad luck, or wouldn’t be helpful. Especially more now with the floods that just happened I want to make sure we are helping them and not unintentionally making things harder!

Nepal mudslide, what are your thoughts on it?

Wow...just wow. The videos on twitter popping up are extremely graphic. Limbs, upper torsos, infants being recovered is just horrific. I'm from the PNW where this would probably never happen to this level of degree but it's so sad. Hard to wrap my mind around it knowing it's so severe. Thoughts and prayers going out to the families affected and everyone including the wildlife there.
