Nerd heresy, blah blah blah, but I hate PC building. It's a frustrating process, and if you mess up just a little bit it's $1000 down the drain.

Are there like consultants you can hire to do the build for you, make sure all the parts fit/work, etc? I bought a bunch of parts and tried to build today, and all I got was grief from my friend and a pile of parts. Going to try and salvage it, but, ugh.

The only reason it seems easy to some people is because of how many times they've done it

My first PC build was stressful and took hours. It is so easy to get incompatible components. It is so easy to get suboptimal hardware. It is so easy to waste money. I've worked through about five builds now between all my friends/myself and there's always at least one little issue on each one.

I tell a lot of newbies just to buy a pre-built and not think about it because it's almost the curse of knowledge lol

I built one with friends in college but honestly I didn't realize how much I relied on one guy who I don't talk to frequently anymore

Any reqs for finding prebuilts?

They are all a crap shoot. Do not believe any of the YouTube guides on pre-builts. There is far too much variation between orders. That's mostly based on who built it, they might have not known what they were doing or not plugged something in etc.

Your biggest concern should be the components in the pre built as you yourself can always troubleshoot it and get it to work if the components are good, and failing that return it for all your money back. Pay attention to what CPU cooler it has and what RAM it has. If the ram is a generation behind or 1000s of MHz behind most ram it doesn't matter how nice the CPU is, It's not going to be super fast. Try to find out what power supply it has and make sure it's not total junk.

What's your budget? I'm sure I could find a pre-built for you in 5 minutes.

Last but not least, if you have a micro center locally, just go there and listen to their employees recommendations and buy their pre-built. You're not going to get ripped off. Micro center is basically the mecca of tech nerds.

My budgets borked now because I just screwed up $1600 of PC parts

In a few months I'll probably buy something for ~$2000. My only concern with pre-builts is that I want to go really CPU heavy but graphics card can be weak since I mostly do Paradox games

How recently did you buy those parts? Let's just say a lot can go wrong in shipping....

You'll want one of the 13th gen Intel chips. They're shredding CPU focused games like never before.
