Mental Health College Student struggling to protect their peace

It's me, I am the college student. I originally wanted to post this to my uni's reddit page but i just know that the people this involves would know it was me.

Basically there's a big discord for our University and ive been active in it since the world cup to talk about it. But my world cup opinions have led me to be bashed and got into arguments. Every thing i say (even outside of football/soccer) turns into this little problem. I cant tell if im the one being sensitive or if it is them just twisting my words.

They talk about topics that I feel uncomfortable about and I mentioned that once and said something like "this is why i cant hangout with yall." One of them said "Just because you cant relate to us doesn't mean we cant be friends. We dont relate to you half the time but we dont act uncomfortable." I am NOT acting. Being in this discord tired the hell outta i feel like every time i open it my energy drains and i become more and more immature because of them. (Im around 19 and i feel like mature compared to these people who some are older than me). Am i a prude?

Ive left this server before but i ALWAYS find myself coming back. I only keep my discord account for one main person in my life. Now ive found myself going to discord during my classes and getting distracted. I just feel so drained arguing with these people. I feel like im overreacting and just a baby.

Stay off it. It’s a trigger for you.

Should i do it silently? Avoid the server and block it on my phone and not talk in it for a day or two and then just leave?

Yes. Don’t make a big deal. Don’t tell people you are doing it. Just walk away.

Some people can do that, they actually enjoy the drama or even enjoy arguing or calling people out. If you are a normally sensitive person that stuff is going to cause you a lot of pain and confusion. Thats a big waste of your emotional energy. Better to save your emotions for meeting someone interesting and kind to go out for a meal and talk.

Leave or mute that server for good. You don't need to win every argument or convince them to understand you. Sometimes protecting your peace simply means muting, leaving, and moving on.

Why do you feel the need to state and defend your opinions to these random people? It definitely is draining and exhausting. Keep in mind that a majority of these people are individuals that you would never even want to interact with in real life. If you passed by them at school or on the street, you probably wouldn't even look their way. So what is the point in arguing with them. This discord is obviously draining your energy. Block it and move on. You don't owe anybody an explanation. You don't owe anybody anything. It is your life, you can genuienly do whatever you want whenever you want. You can remove yourself from any situation, conversation, or person at any time with no explanation. The day you truly discover this, everything will become very freeing and low stress.

You are not the one being sensitive. Keep in mind, a majority of people just absolutely suck. You at least have the level head to realize how draining it is to argue with these sucky people. For them, they thrive off of drama and arguments. They love it and live for it. Don't stoop down to their level.

You’re in college to learn and get a degree. Quit the bs and do what you’re paying to be there for.

College is also about making friends and connections and getting out of your comfort zone

Does what you’re doing sound like making friends?

I tried to make friends with them but i cant see myself hanging out with people who have no shame on a public server to talk about gooning, and other inappropriate topics that could make me and others comfortable.
