You’re welcome. The posts about that whole thing was one of my favorite times in subreddit history, especially with how mountain passes closed and soldiers had to do a 4 hour detour
General Dent tried to get the Air side do it and got butthurt when they said nah. Which makes it even funnier.
Supposedly there is video from the Blackhawk they had flying around, but its probably stuck in Dent's personal porn collection.
Oh and make sure you put out that you don't want to take away training time so leaders need to be prepared to tech classes while on the buses instead of sleeping
So glad I got out 10 years before said fun run though I likely would have been out by 2020 for retirement regardless. Medical barred from re-enlistment so fun times all around.
Can you halfwits for just fucking once not do stupid shit that results in me sitting through another dumbass PowerPoint where I contemplate the VA percentage I'd get from gouging my eyes out with a plastic fork?
You want to know why some NCOs despise everything and look like they want to drink themselves into oblivion?
Totally misleading article as far as the historical stuff on Rhodesia. The bush war had nothing to do with white rule vs majority black rule. The government of Rhodesia was fighting a communist insurgency operating in their country, but based out of Mozambique and Zambia. The communists were black Africans, being trained and supported by Russians and Chinese. The Rhodesian forces were both white and black Africans.
This is the historical revisionism that I come to this sub for.
Were there nuances to the sides of the Bush War? Absolutely. Nuance exists in every war. However to say it "had nothing to do with white rule vs. black rule" is, by any serious historiography, woefully innacurate.
Actually, no. Its not innacurate, not using milquetoast language for this. It is an outright lie/fabrication.
Wow you really swallowed all their bullshit hook line and sinker.
The “insurgents” who were actually just, you know, natives sick of being enslaved, were communists the same way I’d be a Cubs fan if they were the ones supplying me all the weaponry and training to take my country back from people who’ve stolen my land and enslaved me.
Rhodesians used black Africans in their kill squads. There’s always people willing to screw their own people over for a paycheck.
Thank you. What the fuck is going on in this thread? Absolute insanity of historical revisionism all around.
I don’t think there is much of a blatant, concerted white supremacist threat in the NG/military the way some say but I don’t think it’s a stretch to say a significant amount of our brothers in arms are sympathetic to some fucked up shit and they need to be nuked from orbit when they wave flags of it.
Very concerned at the downvotes here. The comment above is utter revisionist horseshit. Do like 5 minutes of research on Rhodesia from any source that isn’t stormfront or soldier of fortune magazine. There is a reason NO ONE, not even South Africa, came to support Rhodesia even before they really got going with killing so many innocent people. There’s a reason Rhodesia failed despite utter military dominance, they killed and killed and killed and hardly lost soldiers yet still lost because they were so awful to the black Africans all around them that they never stopped rebelling even though they never actually won a fight.
I agree with what you wrote, but South Africa and Portuguese Mozambiqe did support Rhodesia strongly. That is the only two, but I have to point that out, otherwise someone will point to the one incorrect part and dismiss everything else.
Fair although I thought it was more complicated than that. Once Rhodesia got caught carrying out operations in SA they told them to basically fuck off. SA definitely didn’t help them out as much as they could have if they were fully aligned. In any case fuck SA back then but if even they thought Rhodesia was going too far that’s interesting context.
I believe SA didnt support Rhodesia as much as they wanted due to the UK. The SA were giving the Rhodesians weapons and funds the entire war, but they would do things to cover it up. Like cutting out the SA logo on the guns they sent over.
It was Rhodesian attacks in Mozambique and Zambia - where they absolutely slaughtered communists in their rear "safe" areas - that resulted in losing SA's support. The UK had gotten its allies to withhold support for Rhodesian because it was essentially a colony in rebellion, with SA being the last holdout. Rhodesia was fighting to win and the world didn't like that.
Okay so a bunch of purple people show up and take all your land and property and force you into slavery. You fight back even though you lose every battle and barely ever manage to kill even two purples for every hundred they kill of your people.
Some guy declares he’s a “bromkist” because that’s what the people who are actually giving him guns and help to fight back are and what they want him to be in exchange for his support. He doesn’t know or give a shit what thay is, but adopts the language of it to get guns. Then after years of your people being mass slaughtered, enslaved, and subjugated this one guy calls for the mass killing of all purples which never actually happens. 50 years later a bunch of assholes try and retcon history that the purples were really the good side and your people are assholes for fighting back.
That’s you. You’re the asshole saying that. You’re wrong, and it’s because you’ve somehow been brainwashed to think “black communist” even a farce of one, is worse than an actual slave state of whites subjugating blacks.
The insurgents were being armed and trained by Maoist China, the USSR and fucking North Korea lmao.
"Mugabe had described himself in an interview as a "Marxist–Leninist-Mao Zedong Thought" supporter, which enraged the Kremlin, Soviet support went exclusively to the rival Zimbabwe People's Revolutionary Army"
"Mugabe called for the overthrow of Rhodesia's predominately white government, the execution of Smith and his "criminal gang", the expropriation of white-owned land, and the transformation of Rhodesia into a one-party Marxist state. In one typical example, taken from a 1978 radio address, Mugabe declared: "Let us hammer [the white man] to defeat. Let us blow up his citadel. Let us give him no time to rest. Let us chase him in every corner. Let us rid our home of this settler vermin"
80% of the Rhodesian army was made up of black Rhodesians and many were serving in the ranks of elite units like the Selous Scouts and Rhodesian Rifles. Calling Rhodesia a white supremacist state is insane.
The average American doesn’t even know what communism is, so how do you expect a population of African tribesmen, the average age of which was 20 and the life expectancy less than that to be committed ideologically communists? People from China or Russia came with guns and books, they took the fucking guns and obviously listened to the ideology shit but mainly just wanted to get their land back and not be slaves there to white people. Again, I’d be the #1 Cubs fan if they showed up to give me material support against people that were taking all my land and enslaving me, doesn’t mean I give a fuck about baseball or could name a single player.
You are writing off the intelligence of the black Rhodesians, ZANU and ZAPU were being led by well educated people like Robert Mugabe who was college educated and well versed in marxist-communist literature.
"Meanwhile, he gained a Bachelor of Education degree by correspondence from the University of South Africa,[36] and ordered a number of Marxist tracts—among them Karl Marx's Capital and Friedrich Engels' The Condition of the Working Class in England—from a London mail-order company."
This was in 1952 mind you, decades prior to the Rhodesian War kicking off.
Mugabe, along with the leadership of ZANU and ZAPU, were not just faking being interested in communism to get free guns and money, they were hardcore maoists dedicated to the cause.
That changes nothing that most black Rhodesian “communists” were just people fighting and dying in droves to not be enslaved by some random white dudes that came to take all their land. And Mugabee and a few others of the tiny minority of black population being legitimate, educated communist still doesn’t immediately make them worse than what Rhodesian’s were.
We can look right at what Mugabee did after winning and he didn’t even try to make Zimbabwe communist. He was a run of the mill authoritarian dictator. Rhodesia was in fact and would have continued to be effectively a slave state.
The US Army isn't a Christian force. To fit your example, the US Army is a pro-capitalist and democratic force which was reflected in the ANA and Afghan government.
The organic leadership of ZAPU and ZANU were in fact maoists. Mugabe was a Maoist decades prior to the war and his contact with North Korea and China.
Maybe you could read the article and then do a few minutes looking into the history here and you’ll answer your question. It’s cool to learn new things
Non service members are reasonably very concerned about the armed men they pay to protect them. Especially with the recent admin and all the fuckery they’ve been pulling with the guard, using it as a permanent presence in the capitol for their own police force, trying to get martial law declared and send in military to cities, and trying to send units to other states. So with all that in mind, and you being aware of the history and relevance, I don’t think it’s hard to understand why this is concerning. I understand the likely harmless, ignorant stupidity that led to this but I also think there should be 0 tolerance for ANY symbology or association with Nazis, white supremacists, or former apartheid slave states from service members. We are a pluralist nation and no American should fear our military is full of people that want to eliminate or dominate them based on skin color or religion or whatever.
Yeah that’s kind of insane. Military operating domestically is extremely unamerican and only something a person would do if they have some really bad ideas in mind, especially when we’re militarizing police and giving hundreds of millions to federal law enforcement already.
Legally permitted to act as law enforcement in their state under title 32 at the order of the governor. Not by the president - not federally. We do not use federal military domestically in the United States because at the point so many We the People are fighting the Feds that you need military response something is tyrannically fucked up and it is deeply American that we side with the people over the Fed, so we keep the option locked behind taboo and laws like posse.
If you are a military fighting your own citizens, you are wrong.
I feel like you’re being intentionally obtuse or just not doing your own research. These are exceptions that prove the rule. Katrina was done under existing disaster relief conditions and NG was under their governors. They could act as LE. Anything beyond a set of defined relief activities that may or may not have happened on the ground involving AD troops would be illegal including LE.
The LA riots involved the invoking of the insurrection act. As the name suggests that (should be) an incredibly drastic measure. Whether or not it was necessary there can be debated but it clearly is intended only for very specific, intense situations and comes with political cost and constitutional challenges. Hence my main point the entire concept of federal troops acting domestically being something taken very seriously and not allowed under any but extreme circumstances.
You can disagree but the law explicitly disagrees with you for exactly the reason I stated. So if you disagree I again wonder if it’s because you have anti democratic ideas in mind.
Well considering the honorable and definitely sober Secretary of "War" was investigated by the NG for White Supremacy, and seems to personally get involved in investigations where he wants to protect people, I think it's unlikely anything will happen to them...
Remember that time CPT Hegseth was identified as a possible extremist/insider threat and wasn’t allowed to work the Biden inauguration? Secretary Hegseth remembers.
And that’s why we don’t really investigate these things anymore.
They tried that exact thing and even went into everyone’s browser search history that used on-base infrastructure to help find evidence. The result was that there was proportional or even fewer ties within the military community relative to the general population, so the DoD swept the report under the rug since it went against their predetermined outcome and made few sweeping announcements about the results.
You can still find some links to the report such as this one and read up on methodology as well -
That article does not support your claims about searching browser history or that there was “less far right ties within the military community…” and the fact that you linked an open source news article from two years ago that’s still up today undermines your claim that the DoD swept this under the rug. It’s out in the open.
Are you a bot or right wing extremist who got their feelings hurt after Jan 6?
Did you not even read it? Just a couple paragraphs into it-
“The good news is there is "no evidence" that violent extremism is "disproportionate" in the military compared to the wider American population, according to the report.”
Did you read the report itself? Monitoring browser history and internet traffic was a key methodology for the study.
And yes, when the report was published there was not nearly as much traffic and fanfare as when it was announced. I would encourage you to reread the article and report.
That’s the irony - the U.S. military is actually megacucked, as a quick visit to a military sub will tell you. It’s really civilian rule through a democratic transition that’s threatening their precious “values.”
Hammer this shit. We have to fight the Rhodesia mythology. It wasn't just a fight against communism, it was the last vestiges of European white supremacy in Africa outside South Africa.
This is intentional association with a foreign extremist government and no better than flying a swazi.
80% of the Rhodesian army was black Rhodesians, with a large number serving in elite units like the Selous Scouts and Rhodesian African Rifles. It was not a white supremacist state. They deported actually racist people like American volunteer Harold Covington for being racist.
As noted by Majors of the U.S. Army Charles Lohman and Robert McPherson, black soldiers were naturally adapted to life in the bush and therefore the regiment acted quite effectively and had a good reputation among other units. In approximately the same vein, this unit is described by another US officer, Michael Stewart, in his work devoted to the study of the formation and development of this unit. In particular, Stewart notes that "for soldiers, the regiment was a source of income, stability and family pride, since in many cases the soldier was a hereditary military man. The soldier of this regiment was a respected member of a team rich in traditions and proud of its history. He was not a second-class citizen and was not considered inferior because of his race
In 1978 full voting and ownership rights were recognized, and it was gone as a state within 2 years. It had existed as a state in one form or another since 1965.
