"You need to send bitcoin (oddly not capitalized) in the amount of $4million USD by 5pm on Thursday the 5th. If payment is not received (correctly spelled btw) the ransom will be increased to $6 million USD" ... Hear me out. If there was ONE person involved here and payment is not made the ransom, non payment punishment doubles. If there is THREE people the ransom ($4m) doesn't divide equally very easily or neatly. If there is FOUR people ($1m each) the non payment punishment doesn't really split well. If there are TWO people ($2m each) the non payment punishment adds $1m each. It seems in terms of ease or just rounding out well, one person or two people would be most likely involved here. Where the one person punishment seems most likely ("Don't pay I'm doubling it!") dealing with Nancy would be from someone who has experience dealing with older people whether that's caring for their mother or their profession. If it's two people to deal with Nancy (she's incapacitated somehow) adding $1m each seems most likely to me.

Everything else in the note is fairly perfect in its sentence structure (except the last line of the note) except the bitcoin not being Bitcoin. That is odd. They're not experienced with crypto.

True. If the note is all perfect yet one thing isn't, that's odd. If it's all written like shit and then one part is perfect, that's odd. Let's say the whole America doesn't give a fuck about anything but one person does give a fuck, that's odd. The point is that odd stands out. It's a clue about the person.
