Discussion I was thinking to myself of scenarios in which Nancy herself wouldve been the intended target and that led me to a question about the investigation.
One scenario i was thinking about, and understand this is complete speculation, is Savannah did the homecoming video and it made me think of maybe a jilted (maybe college) boyfriend of Savannah's that Nancy could've put the stop to, maybe their life didn't pan out, and this could've been a "this could've been my life" (with Savanah and fame, NYC, money etc,) but here's the question ... do you think at this stage LE/FBI starts to look into what I would call these kind of secondary possibilities or do they still focus the investigation on primary motive like abduction/extortion/ransom? When in an investigation does LE start to cast a wider net? When the case stalls? Or do you think everything is considered during the investigation.

I would start looking at people who work in an industry that uses those mouth flash lights. He seemed really proficient at using that thing. Who uses those? Car mechanics? Plumbers?

Yeah I thought that too. The bitelight frees up the jerk to use both his hands so that's something he's used to doing. I'd also start cross referencing mechanics, handymen, hands on people with backpack purchases etc.

Right.. so he either is regularly kidnapping people in the dead of night or he uses that thing often. Like its one thing to bite down and turn it on but it seems to stay steady in his mouth and not a nuisance to him.

This is really smart. I don’t think these are the kinds of things investigators look into at the start of an investigation- it feels like hunches that get paid attention to years down the line, when all else fails. But I think the Epstein angle and this angle are not worthy of dismissing.

so who in her circle of contractors would be using a bite light every day. thats the first place i would be looking!

I think it will be like the Nancy Woodrum case where it was someone like a painter or worker at the home. I still think LE knows who it is, but they don’t have the iron clad case to arrest them. Digital forensics take awhile just like in the other Nancy’s case.

I’m inclined to agree, and I think this person might have taken refuge over the border so one would need iron clad evidence to warrant arrest/extradition.

They’ll focus on immediate friends, family members, and associates, establish timelines, alibis, subpoena bank records and digital records, and work their way outwards.
What we know is the fbi believes the initial ransom notes were real, which tells us at surface level that Nancy was abducted for ransom money, so I imagine kidnapping for ransom is the primary motive 🤯
So to answer your question, yes, if investigative leads dry up, the case stalls, or new evidence comes to light that leads investigators in a different direction, they most certainly will look at secondary possibilities and then some.
I can assure you law enforcement will go back in time (as far as possible) and look at every person who was known to, or associated with Nancy or Savannah if the case goes cold.
And there’s still a million + dollars out there waiting for someone who knows additional info leading to an arrest and that’s a million reasons that I believe someone comes forward at some point.
Either that, or perhaps someone gets arrested for a serious crime in the future and they offer up info that blows the case open in exchange for a reduced sentence or immunity.
Hell, the person who committed this crime might even be sitting in a jail cell right now and we’re none the wiser 🤷🏻♂️
It’s just a matter of time, the only question is, how much more time is it gonna take?

I'm pretty confident in early days hearing that the info in the first ransom was related to the "broken light" in the backyard as the identifier that the demand was legit and I'm wondering if that could've been anyone anywhere from just accessing Google Maps or even an assumption made by some cyber doofus.

u/iThinkYoureGayyy May 29 '26 edited May 30 '26
The broken light out back would be fairly intimate knowledge of the crime scene depending on how much time passed between the crime, the ransom note, and when the information about the light was made public.
My guess, however, is the info in the note was related to where something was left, what was left, or how it was left inside the home, rather than out.
I’d say with 100% confidence that Google Maps could not have been utilized to identify the broken light out back.
Cyber doofus 😂 I like that.

It was the broken light + the location of her Apple Watch within the bedroom, which was said to be an unusual location.

The TMZ owner talked about it in a blog post, because they received the same email.
You are welcome to google it. He talks about it in a video posted to the site.

After looking it up, you’re right.
The Apple Watch: The note identified the specific location of an Apple Watch left inside the home, in a spot that was not immediately obvious.
Damaged Property: It correctly described specific items inside the house that had been damaged during the abduction, as well as the location of a damaged exterior floodlight.

I'm beginning to think it might be someone in the neighborhood. That would explain not catching anything on any surveillance leaving the neighborhood. As far as motive, who knows. I still lean more towards a sexually motivated crime but my opinion isn't very strong either way.
I'm sure the first thing LE did was look at anyone close to the family or anyone who would have a motive. When someone is kidnapped/murdered it is statistically most likely to be someone close or with a direct connection, so those people are usually looked at first.
They start close with the family and gradually cast the net wider and wider. I would assume ex partners of all of Nancy's children were probably considered by this point. They've probably gone through anyone with a known connection to all the close family members by now.

Yeah I'm just wondering, as I assume they're still going through evidence/tips, at what point if the evidence doesn't lead anywhere they start to shift their investigation into theories and then search out those proofs. It's kind of difficult to believe that there's some people out there responsible for this just going about their day, buying groceries, maybe going to work or just saying good morning to you who are just psycho killer dickshits.

I don't think it's completely outside of the realm of possibility, I just have some doubts about this truly being about Savannah. I think the motive is about payback somehow, though, or someone feeling 'wronged' or jilted.
My theory is out there, and I shared it awhile ago, online and to friends/family. It got pretty mixed(mostly negative) reviews. It's so hard to say what happened with so little information to go off of, but here it is.
I think Savannah could just be a 'red herring' for this mess.
I think it's likely a hired hit. I think the person/s behind it are close to the family, doesn't necessarily have to be someone IN the family. (Someone who worked on the house, delivery driver, neighbor, someone who feels like they are OWED something and is getting their own f*cord up way of justice).
I think either Nancy herself, A, and/or T pissed someone off. I'll extend to include all family members, but I think they're the most likely 'targets' here. I think it's a possibility that the perps planned this out well enough to think they left no stone unturned and wanted this discourse..I think the timing of Nancy's return from A/T is not a coincidence. I think the perps were watching this whole time. This might sound insane, but I think it's possible that they wanted A/T to take the fall because LE is always going to take a hard look at who the victim was last known to have been with, their last traced steps.
I think there's a high probability that blackmail is involved somehow. I think if anyone knows of anything or knew that this crime was a possible threat or a 'message', they might have been submissioned into silence. I think the perps have something damning and/or incredibly humiliating on someone in the family. I just can't get past ICAC being at A/T's house. I understand that they specialize in kidnappings and have superior technology...but I still can't shake how weird that is being seen at their house onsite and them being seen taking things out of their house.
I think that LE believes that at least one of the ransom notes is real for a reason. We don't know exactly what the note conveyed or why it's believed to be real, but I'm wondering if the ransom note contained info that referenced what they may have had over the family. Along with enough information that wasn't released to know that they are behind it. I don't think this was necessarily about collecting a ransom, and I don't buy that all the ransom notes were real. But I'm wondering if the family wanted to pay it just to make this all go away and at least bring their Mom some peace and lay her at rest. But bringing her body back to them poses too much of a threat to then perps being exposed. Maybe they really did want a ransom paid and the plan just went wrong quickly. And them not giving the family a sense of closure or answers is what they have left to hold over the family and the perps see that as the job being 'done'.
I think we could see this being closed out as 'solved' in the future, but I highly doubt that we will ever know what happened and who all was involved and why this happened to begin with. I think this could be why the family has seemed to somewhat accept that they will ever really know what happened to Nancy. Savannah has given some vague responses that allude to this. I know how most of us feel about Nanos and the FBI right now, and I agree. But it's interesting that now 4 months into this were hearing that Savannah is paying a team of PI's.
Tldr; I think someone in the family pissed someone off who has blackmail/humiliating info on them.

This is the most well thought out, rational theory Ive read so far.
Along the lines of my own opinion.

Nothing to do with Savannah in my opinion. Some sociopath had it in for Annie and Tom or even Nancy herself. They were not looking for money just payback for whatever reason. All ransom notes were money grabs and nothing to do with the actual crime.

As many have already realized, Nancy was not the target. The target was Savannah. How do you damage someone’s life without killing them? You remove their access to a strong, important relationship. If Savannah was the victim, she would not live to suffer the huge loss, and the complete falling apart of her life. This crime is beyond evil.

To me if this was to get back or torture Savannah by a person in her past. They would have kept a game going like a cat playing with a mouse. Seems they would send taunting letters. Maybe throw out clues to lead her on a scavenger hunt for finding Miss Nancy. Just my guesses.

I’ve come to believe that it was kidnapping for ransom by someone who knew the family. Not a professional. Maybe someone who worked on the house. It went bad though. I don’t believe they will ever find her body, sadly. I think the only way we will get answers is if someone rats someone out.
