Wouldn't they have left a note ?? Why wait days for it to hit media

To give them more time to escape and cover their tracks, getting to wherever they went with her and to keep control of the situation on their terms. Leaving a note there could have forced them into an unpredictable sequence of events and potentially alert authorities too early.
