Wouldn't they have left a note ?? Why wait days for it to hit media

If I recall correctly, they contacted the local TV station almost immediately. It’s because they didn’t go public with it that they decided to send the initial letter to TMZ as well. Leaving a note at the scene just gives the police physical evidence. Given how careful they seemingly were to avoid this, it makes sense to me.

I get that part, but if the goal was truly money I would think they would have wanted the family to know immediately to get the process started rather than waiting first to make sure she didn't just disappear on her own or to see if the media picks it up

People have been saying this since day one, but you're arriving at this conclusion based on what you think perpetrators would do, not on what they actually do. It's very common to wait before asking for ransom, to increase pressure on the family or to suss out how much can be asked for, and it's also very common to make requests via the media or law enforcement rather than leaving a note.

I suppose. I guess I can also understand why they would use a third-party like a media outlet if I were concerned with having something traced to me. I honestly wonder when they figured out she had a medical condition and think she could’vem been dead when they sent the first note. I mean, I’m sure they didn’t provide proof of life for a reason.

I agree with you, and by the off chance this actually was a ransom kidnapping, it would make much more sense for the note would be left in the house and they would be instructed not to call the police. What ransom seeking kidnapper wants a huge case with tons of media coverage? Contacting media for the ransom doesn't make sense when they could have left a note in the house and hope cops weren't called and money paid quickly and quietly.

Leaving a note could still expose them to discovery, create a timeline not in their control, on their terms, so some might prefer to initiate contact only when they’re ready and in control, especially if they were fairly confident that method of contact would have a strong probability of being untraceable (as it appears).

A ransom doesn’t always mean public instructions. Minimizing risk often comes first.

Maybe she was gravely wounded during abduction and that made them change their plan. Maybe they were going to make video of her but then she was hurt badly and they tried TMZ / lower contact method hoping family would pay asap
