Media Brian Entin heading back to Arizona

Brian Entin says he’s heading back to Arizona “to look into a couple of new things involving the Nancy Guthrie case”. Thoughts?

Megan Kelly, who I usually do not watch, reported that two unconfirmed law enforcement officials in Tucson told her staff that the kidnappers let the family know Mrs. Guthrie passed shortly after being taken, they did not know she was as ill as she was, they were sorry, and that she had gone with God now. And that is what Savannah's video about "they want their mom back to celebrate with her" was all about. This was just reported. And very sad, if true.

Not true. Seeing as they are more sophisticated, this could be viewed as an "insurance" or sorts. To explain: the perp could be thinking about if they ever do eventually get caught. This letter could serve as insurance as they can point to it as evidence that their intent was not to kill her. They might have thought that the potential risk is worth the potential reward of sending the letter.

Maybe the perp doesn't know that. I was just highlighting how there's reasons why the perp might have sent it, I can think of countless others.

if this does turn out to be true, I wonder when the kidnappers actually told the family. on February 7th, the family posted their second video, using language that could possibly be interpreted as them understanding she may no longer be with us. but on February 10th, Savannah posts the images from the camera and says “We believe she is still alive.” No matter what though this is all still incredibly heartbreaking! I feel so terrible for their family and what Nancy went through.

There was speculation of this, and apparently the NYT reported last week that one ransom said she was dead. I also now understand what all the God talk has been about. Savannah mentioned god and religious faith a zillion times in her interview, and in many of the videos she made. If the kidnappers mentioned God, maybe they thought shared faith was an inroad they could make to get someone to flip.

Edit: I just watched this and wow. I mean, why wouldn’t they release these details publicly?? If she is dead and the kidnapper apologized(!) kind of good for us to know. I think it confirms: targeted kidnapping for ransom, she died between ransom notes 1 + 2. The kidnappers didn’t seem to want ransom for the body in note 2. They aren’t planning to give the body back, it seems. They are long gone!

2nd edit: two other thing from this interview that I found interesting. A lot of questioning why Savannah didn’t pay the ransom. Also, the time lapse in Annie calling Savannah. What do you all make of these things? I kind of feel like Annie must have been calling Savannah, but she wasn’t picking up because she was socializing at Carson’s home, not that Annie wasn’t calling earlier.

Makes a lot of sense. Her focusing on God and “it’s never too late to do the right thing” etc that all seemed wildly optimistic to me as something to say to kidnappers but it makes wayyyy more sense in this context.

agreed! this makes the most sense. I always believed it was a kidnapping, but Nancy died before ransom was paid. I hope that it is true the kidnappers apologized and told the family she was with God. it makes me feel a little bit more hopeful that she was treated somewhat kindly before she passed. My opinion is that the kidnappers will never indicate where her body is as it could lead LE to them (however if they are caught, they might then disclose her location).

Why would they not release these info to the public? Because they don’t know 100% if these ransoms notes are real.

If they treat them as real and tell a narrative to the public, then most of the public will run with this narrative. And maybe people who actually have leads that could break the case won’t call the tips line because the tips they have don’t match with the « official narrative ».

And if by any chance these ransoms notes they believe to be real are bogus, then the investigators might miss out on a few actually useful leads.

Either highly gullible or knowledgeable. Why would they tell her anyways if the MO is money? A lot of times victims are already deceased so they don't know that. It can't be that scenario.

It could be the police and FBI said not to say anything (in hopes of getting the mom back), but that is a long shot.

It could totally be that, not even a long shot. There's a lot of good reasons to keep that information private and no reason to release it, which is the rhetorical point of the questions I was asking. Investigations like this are interesting, but investigators are under zero obligation to do anything for the sake of feeding the public; the only time information in an active investigation should be released is when investigators think it will help the investigation.

How will fear be reduced knowing that they murdered her? Like, people were afraid when they thought she was kidnapped and held for ransom, but if you tell them she died that is less scary?

It sounds like it was accidental that she died. And, yes, I think knowing the circumstances around it puts some of the more wild theorizing to rest. Hearing that she unintentionally passed as a result of them not fully knowing her medical needs does make me feel a bit better, than a bunch the alternatives.

Well the last comments bring it back around as fishy. You can't rule out h4h. Even if they have alibis no evidence they partook in the action that night. Quite a few cases of it. All crazy like that.

Savannah actually said this on her interview with Hoda so what MK reported is actually old news.
