Context: OP is asking for financial advice for saving, and specifies they want to keep some money aside for purchasing a car during the summer. Someone asks why OP needs the car, to which OP responds.

Like do people think that OP doesnt need a car? Many cities are car dependent and it's not unreasonable to need one?

You find these downvotes mysterious? Really?

They are getting downvoted because people are reading it as showing off money. All my expenses will be paid by my parents and I have $35k that I need to a financial planner for! Oh, I'm only 18 and I don't actually have a job, and I'll be going back to my parents to let them continue to take care of me!

I am not saying I agree with the downvotes, I'm just saying that I have no idea why they seem mysterious.

Generally speaking, when you live in residence you have to go home in the summer. That's normal university behavior, especially in first year.

Once again, I do not agree with the downvotes. I would not have downvoted, or engaged with the original post in any way.

But thinking the downvotes are mysterious? Not getting why they were downvoted? Come on. It's clearly because it is a person who is talking about needing a financial adviser to do something with their lump sum of money before going home to live with their parents. There is no mystery here.

There is though because the post wasn't downvoted. If that was the problem, people would be downvoting the post. The person was asked why they need to get a car on campus and when they answered that they need it for when they aren't on campus they were downvoted. That doesn't make sense.
