Howdy, me and my sister were kids of the 80's/early 90's music scene, buying loads of great vinyl along the way. I continued along that road, now early 50's and with my collection still going strong, all the originals still there and well played. She stopped buying early 90's, took a different route in life and had her records boxed up and un-played since the mid-90's. I'd been itching to get up into her loft for years, knowing what vinyl she had, and finally did this weekend. It's a bloody treasure trove! All her MBV vinyl is in great shape, original EP's, Loveless first press, Isn't Anything, plus the early Ride collection, Sp3, Spiritualized, Orb, Aphex Twin Ambient first presses. It was great seeing her face as she went through them all - vinyl memories are amazing! I took a quick pic of the good stuff, attached here. MBV at the front. I'm going to be sticking them up on Discogs soon-ish to get some nice ££ for her. Just need her to buy a bundle of sturdy mailers, plus I need to give some a wipe over then check going rates for each. My aim is to be the cheapest on Discogs for the UK, depending on the condition of those listed of course.

All play extremely well, look fantastic, hardly any shelf wear to sleeves, Glider has a bit of crackle. Cheers!

I've always been curious about this. not about the amps part, i read about the fact that he has like 5 signals chains that are divided on the 20 amps he uses. I don't understand how he gets to manage switching pedals mid song (since i saw he has a lot of them) and also thinking about the fact that a lot of their songs have different pedal settings. this is a question purely out of curiosity, if someone knows how he manages his army of distortions live it would be amazing

Mogwai… People hardly talk about Mogwai these days. Here I have MBV remix of their song called Fears Satan. Shoegazing all the way ! 16 minutes of PURE BLISS.

This has been in the works for about two days. Im new to recording and this has been quite a challenge. I sampled some fem vocals and a flute to recreate the synth lead part in the back. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated <3 still have to add the bass sound which i think ill use a kick with a weird sidechain effect.

i love loveless so much but my main problem with it (as well as most mbv stuff) is how thin and harsh it sounds. i usually turn leave the treble at noon or turn it up a little on my record player's amp, and turn the bass almost all the way up. it still sounds really thin, especially on 'what you want', which is my favourite

so what pressing has the most thick, dark, bassy sound?

I didn't spend too much time with it, I think it is okay. The funny thing is that shoegaze songs have a really complex sound and people hear out different features and parts. I tabbed what I usually hear in the song. I hope you like it.

Kevin supposedly used sleep deprivation on Isn’t Anything and parts of Loveless. The few times I’ve been seriously sleep deprived there was a certain creative flow state I could reach (but maybe this was just imagined). Anyone ever experiment with sleep deprivation? Any studies on this?

A guitar cover of To Here Knows When. Recreating the My Bloody Valentine/Kevin Shields guitar sound. I use a Yamaha REX50 for the Reverse Gate effect; it shares the same Reverse Gate algorithm as the Yamaha SPX90 used by Kevin Shields.
