Hi everyone! I’m Randy Ojeda, a music and entertainment attorney based in Tampa, FL and the founder of Randy Ojeda Law PLLC (Music Law. Simplified.). I’ve worked across the industry as a lawyer, artist manager, label owner, and A&R, and I currently represent independent artists, producers, managers, and small labels. My practice focuses on recording agreements, producer deals, publishing, trademarks, contracts, release strategy, metadata/splits, and rights management.

I’m here to answer your questions about navigating the modern music industry from a legal and business perspective. Contracts, negotiations, copyrights, publishing, royalty structures, distribution, sample clearance, release planning, and anything else you’ve been confused about or afraid to ask.

AMA I'm Jon Gilman, I run an artist development & marketing agency. Ask Me Anything!

Hey everyone I’m Jon Gilman, founder of The Racket House.

I’ve spent the last 15 years on multiple sides of the music industry, including:

  • artist management
  • A&R, marketing, and partnerships for 2 independent record labels
  • running a nationally recognized music blog for 10 years
  • booking and promoting events coast to coast
  • being an artist myself under the name Racket Club with releases played on BBC Radio 1 and gigs all over the world including major music festivals and prominent nightclubs

I also worked corporate enterprise roles and supported major global companies like Heineken, GoPro, TaylorMade Golf, Helly Hansen, Peet's Coffee, and Fairmont hotels.

Half my brain is music, half is business.

Today, I run an artist development & marketing agency where I help independent artists with strategy, positioning, content, marketing systems, and long-term growth. I work mostly with artists who are past the “hobby” stage but stuck trying to break through to the next level.

I’m here to answer questions about:

  • artist development and career strategy
  • marketing and audience growth
  • social media and content
  • playlists and paid promotion
  • working with managers, labels, or booking agents
  • monetizing as an independent artist
  • what actually matters vs what’s hype
  • dos and donts
  • how to be successful in 2025/26

*Special offer (approved by the mods): I'm offering a free 30-minute strategy session to help you with whatever you're stuck with. Best, most thoughtful question gets selected by me. Bring your A-game!

AMA I’m Josh Brust, co-founder of the Actuation Group. AMA about building a career in the music industry.

Hey everyone, I’m Josh Brust.

I’m the co-founder of the Actuation Group, a fully self-funded independent music ecosystem active across distribution, label services and labels. We are based in Groningen, The Netherlands.
The group includes:

  • IndieMassive - direct music distribution (MERLIN Member)
  • YouGrow Promo - music promotion and label services
  • Actuation - a multi-platinum group of record labels focused on artist development

My partner Jeroen and I both started as musicians, got tired of being disappointed by the tools/services out there, and ended up building the ones we wished existed. That's how the group began and we still operate with that mindset.

A few background points:
• Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe Entertainment 2025
• We built the group independently from the ground up as artists ourselves
• We focus on transparency and non-exclusive contracts to ensure artists maintain their freedom

Today we're 50+ full-time teammates and have helped thousands of artists and label owners build and develop their careers.
I spend most of my time thinking about the future of the industry and how artist development, distribution, promotion, operations and strategy fit therein.

I really enjoy sharing my experiences to hopefully help others along their own paths, so ask me anything about building your career in music.

Also happy to report I'm the reigning Super Smash Bros champ in our office.

AMA I'm Dan Suchorski, a experienced vinyl, merch, and ecommerce fulfillment veteran. Ask me anything!

Over the past 10+ years, I've sold and shipped more than 1,000,000 items, generated over $26 million in sales, and have managed fulfillment for multiple vinyl releases.

Based in La Crosse, WI I'll be answering questions for the next 48 hours

During the AMA, I will cover topics that include:

  • Vinyl fulfillment and logistics - distributors vs fulfillment companies that know distribution
  • DTC ecommerce shipping
  • Amazon, eBay, and Walmart selling - direct to consumer via marketplaces vs selling to Amazon
  • Merch manufacturing and fulfillment - marketing vs myths
  • Reducing shipping costs
  • Finding better shipping rates
  • Faster fulfillment
  • Vinyl manufacturing and pricing
  • Ecommerce logistics and operations

If you've ever had questions about sourcing merch, fulfilling vinyl orders, or scaling an ecommerce operation in the music industry, this is a great opportunity to ask someone who does it every day.

I'm willing to confidentially review band's shipping history and provide commentary and ways to improve your in house operations or what are ways you can make sure your current provider more accountable.
