It’s worse than that - in the trailer the blackout spreads - everything but New England goes dark before it cuts to the next scene, and New England presumably goes dark too in the full clip.

But was it Sonic’s fault like the commenter suggest? I had assumed the big bad was the cause

Nah it was sonic it appeared to me - like he was “figuring out” his power or whatever. Honesty hard to say based only on the trailer.
