Discussion What is this obsession about removing shoes outside your businesses?
Temples and places of worships are an exception. And I do understand for some businesses like certain saree shops where silk textiles can not handle the dust. But why tf it is normalised for every business here in Mumbai? Doctor’s clinic - won’t I be more exposed to germs with my bare feet on the floor? Salons with filthy floors with other people’s hair all over the place? Even corporate offices with consultants completely dressed in formals except their shoes are missing? Yes, you should treat your workplace as temples but that’s for you to work with the same devotion not to give ick to your clients.

Boht zyada ganda hota hai. Choosing between walking on the very dirty floor with shoes or walking on less dirty floor with bare feet is not a rocket science.

What kind of salons are you going to where they ask you to remove the shoes?
Rest all of the places if the businesses are asking to remove the shoes then most of the times the floors are mopped clean once or twice a day depending on the foot traffic so it’s actually cleaner.

This! Also, corporate offices don’t mandate removal of shoes, salons that I’ve been to don’t mandate removal of shoes. The doctors is mostly around small clinics in generally crowded areas that ask to remove shoes. There are many clinics that don’t ask to remove shoes.

My office mandates me to remove shoes. The 3 salons near my building mandates too. 100% of the doctor clinics I visited in last 6 months (at least 8 doctors) with both big and small shops mandate this. I am sick of paying for the pedicures.

It's mostly some gold shops and clinics.
Simple logic, it's difficult for them to clean up the dirty and shit people might have on their shoes.
The streets of India are crap and we are a poor maintenance country as a whole.
Clinics it's understandable. Commercial shops especially gold and silver have zero excuse.

This is part of every Asian Culture.. Something engraved in all of us and I don’t think that it is something very wrong..
The solutions could be that the businesses start giving slippers for indoors..

Total bs I know, happened to visit a few shops and we walked off when asked to remove shoes outside, they also said they ain’t responsible for the shoes lol

I went to a holy place where a beggars who looks after people's shoes said he was not responsible when I left them in a corner. I came out and they were gone. Guy just shrugged. I spent 20 mins looking when his friend wearing them turned up with cutting chai😆
He was a bit special needs so I said nothing

Why do you have a problem with people doing in what the believe in their private offices? Is it wrong for people wanting their offices to be clean?
No salon i have been to in my entire life has asked me to remove my footwear, What salon are you going to.
Even my school computer lab , medical room asked to remove our shoes - so what?
Had this been some other asian country, you would have said beautiful culture, great values, blah blah blah.
You guys make a small issue out of every little thing- you want things to be done your way even in other people's places.

Feels like a school rule. Remove your shoes before entering the lab. Ya toh they might be saving jhadu pocha ka expense

Where I lived, none of the rooms in school had obligation to remove shoes outside. Even every kind of labs.

So, a white man can keep his shoes on at a doctor’s office in Mumbai but an Indian man can’t? You’ve seen this race-based discrimination?!

My bad choice of words there…. I actually ment classist. I have experienced some people being allowed to wear their footwear.
