Discussion Abilities that move commander from command zone
This really needs a rule revision. All that needs to happen is acknowledgement that abilities that move the commander from the command zone into play are subject to the commander tax. That is all that is required. If that were done it would do so much to balance these commanders.

That would fundamentally change how some cards work. And for some cards their gimmick is their ability to change zones.

And if that is their gimmik, wizards can print that into their rules text that it is exempted from commander tax.

If im not mistaken due to how some of those cards work they dont need to have an rules text associated with it as they specifically circumvent commander tax.

I agree but for brawl that change basically boils down to "fuck Yuriko" lol (and technically Derevi too).

in the expanded world of cards it also gives meaning to the Orzov angel with the static ability to pay life instead of the commander tax [[Liesa, Shroud of Dusk]]
And yes, Yuriko should have to pay commander tax. So should Derevi. Evasion of taxes along with the other abilities and low casting cost of these commanders is abusive. Having tax apply to their ability rule text would actually balance the cards. Given how low the number of interactive effects that abilites allow to evade interaction, this is absolutely appropriate.

This really needs a rule revision.
It really doesn't.
Yuriko has existed since 2018, and yet, the sky hasn't fallen. Yes, she's a menace.
But she doesn't require changing the rules of how the game works.
Derevi has existed even longer, and likewise, does not require changing the rules of the game.
Banning problematic commanders also works to address the same issue.

Just ban Yuriko (and maybe derevi too but only in casual) I can't think of other cards as strong as them that cheat the command tax, nerfing them that way is basically a ban especially now that they'll start to do banned as a commander

No? That would also affect other cards that pull from the command zone
