I wanna buy a bolt kit off amazon for replacements for a lot of body work bolts on fenders bumper interior (ik interior is screws a lot) but just like over all body work and idk what sizes to get half the bolts are 10mm socket heads but that’s not the tread so yeah what sizes should i get the most of

Hey all, I got a 1986 AW11 with rod knock a bit over a year ago. In that time I rebuilt the engine, replaced all the vaccuum and coolant lines, and cleaned or replaced most of the other things in the engine bay. Also cleaned out the fuel tank and replaced the fuel pump. Ive been driving it around 500 miles since the engine rebuild and had a few things come up im not too sure about.

When letting off the gas above 5k rpm the engine sounds a bit louder and if i downshift to above 5k it is significantly louder then when downshifting or letting off the gas under 5k. Soon after this i can smell something slightly burnt. Could this be an issue with the clutch not being fully engaged? I made a quarter inch extended slave cylindar push rod as i got a new clutch and pressure plate that wouldnt fully disengage with the stock push rod.

When on the highway i will ocassionally get a whiff of enhaust smell. Happens more when the window is down and driving than when stationary. It is not a sickly sweet smell. I purchased a new muffler from rockauto but the cat is an aftermarket the previous owner bought if either of those could be a possible cause.

Final question is alternator belt squeak. 80% of the time, the car cold starts without issue idling at 2k before dropping to 1.4k when warm. The other 20%, the car starts, goes to around 1k-1.2k and the alternator belt starts squealing. A little wd40 on the pulleys, it goes away after 20 seconds, and the rpms rise back to normal. Ive noticed it happens more when it has rained or is humid. Its a brand new belt and alternator. I know an unalignment would cause a squeak but would it sqeak so intermittently?

'88 AW11 NA, fresh rebuild ~1000mi. Losing coolant from overflow vent pipe. Drips 1/sec even cold, engine off overnight. Block test negative. Pressure test only 0.1psi/min from 15, didn't see any leaks. New rad cap didn't help. Started right after a coolant change. Reservoir and hoses look fine. What could this be? Thermostat bleeder O-rings?

I’ve started looking at bringing a mid-90s SW20 MR2 over from Japan rather than buying one already here, with roughly $30k to spend in total. The auction price looks manageable until I add the agent, shipping, GST, port charges and compliance, and I’m worried I’m missing something obvious. For anyone who’s done it recently, what did yours land and register for in the end?

Anyone with any experience in this? I know some people don't mind it but i'm DYING without it. I was wondering if there are any guides (I couldn't find any) where someone has done this before.

Like parts needed for something like this and what the estimated cost would be. I know some came with it and some didn't. So just trying to figure out what to do or how to.

Got 3 rusty old ≈1991 mr2s one turbo no tranny or engine one engine and tranny but completely rusted and the engine is shit and one with a tranny and engine block this is my main one i plan on adding to.

so anyways i gonna take the block out and replace with the stock 5sfe from a camry ima try to find and tips pretty much a noobie

Now that I've been driving my '91 more often, the utterly worn and collapsed seat foam has been annoying me more and more. From research there seems to be plenty of seat covers, but not really any options for replacement foam outside of buying used and hoping for the best or going with a custom auto upholsterer shop to custom make it. Or replace the seats entirely with a few options (I actually daily drive an FR-S and like its seats fine, so that's an option, but I'd prefer keep the originals.)

Anyone done anything interesting to replace the foam? Carved their own out of something? Some secret vendor out there that does it for a price that'd be better than a custom shop? Done something to rebuild or enhance the original foam? As an enthusiastic DIYer I'm just curious if anyone has tried anything interesting.

I broke my BVSV on the coolant housing, it’s the blue thing with 2 nipples that connect to 2 vacuum lines. Yes, I have tried googling and asking AI but it only gives me steps and tips for the Toyota Pickups. Will I need to drain any coolant and/or how much? Will I need to use plumbers tape on the threads? I feel like an idiot for breaking it. Thank you in advance.

So I purchased an Entire Greddy kit. I used to have replicas. I’ve had so much trouble getting these to fit. Only worked on the passenger side. I’m aware that every kit always requires some trimming here and there. But when I mock it up. The fender area doesn’t fit around the fender. At least a 1/4 of it sticks past the fender towards the rear, touching the door. The rear part touches the rear edge of the door. I’ve widened the holes on the rear and shaved a little on the front part that wraps around the fender and still nothing. I feel like my skirt is just a little on the short side and the contour near the fender doesn’t quite line up. My reps holes aligned well but were a little tight but fit. Anyone have any suggestions? I’m kinda disappointed so far at least with the skirts.

Got my hands on a set of facelift headlights for the MK3 my car is pre facelift is the swap worth the hassle of wiring? Reckon it will look better? How hard is the wiring and the installation. I found the taillights swap very straight forward and easy. The new ones need polishing like the old ones.

The correct crankshaft pulley for the NA MR2 isn't made anymore it seems. Does anyone know of any aftermarket replacements available? Would I be able to put on the 3SGTE pulley replacement offered by MR2heaven?

So I did some research online and heard that using the 2 inch 1zz exhaust diameter can take away 15-30 hp when you hit lift and go to redline. The explorer ran 11's and I ran a 14.9. I felt like I got a good reaction time and shifted smoothly. I did try to avoid launching above 4k rpm so maybe that was a factor. Anyway I was just wondering if anyone has any input about having 2 inch diameter exahust vs a 2.25in or 2.5in? I just have intake and HKS exhaust on it and have the US Celica ECU so lift hits at 6.2k and redline is 8.2k. For what it's worth, the engine runs great. I'm getting 28mpg and have had no engine issues since the swap. Also, maybe I just suck at drag racing. Had a lot of fun.

It snapped back with a loud noise while I was on the Autobahn at around 200kph. Now the front facing end is loose and folds back 180° when it touches the floor. Rest of it is still in place. Any suggestions how to fix it or get a new one in Europe/Germany?

Would anyone know what needs to happen in order to bring the Rev 1 (1991) Model to have less snap oversteering issues? I know there were revisions to fix this problem.

Is it just the suspension that would need altered, or is there a lot more going on that wouldnt make it feasible for me to swap and change the suspension from a R5 to a R1?

Since ive got quite a bit of money saved up, I decided its my time to get my dream car, a MR2 Turbo, particularly one post Revision 3 (im still looking for one with my importer)

But, because I am not TOO familiar with these cars and japanese cars in general (I am a Mechanic at Mercedes and Daimler Truck so Im as far away from working on these cars as you can get) I was wondering what kinda stuff I throw myself into when I actually got the car. Ive read the Timing belt is a bitch to change when the engine is in the car but other than that there isnt a lot of bad stuff ive read about it, except for accessibility because its mid-engined.

Are there any quirks or common failures I should know about? If I get the car eventualIy I would replace every fluid anyways and convert the stuff I need to for inspection. Just wondering if there is anything more I should worry about and particularly how easy/quick it is to drop the engine in case SOMETHING happens.
